He took chase, breaking into a run. His coat whipped around his legs, but he avoided all the cars, his feet barely touching the pavement when he hit the other walk. Ten feet ahead, the woman’s long blonde hair streamed out behind her as she ran. It made an excellent beacon to follow.
They cut down alleys and side streets, winding their way around dozens of New Yorkers and tourists, never breaking stride or looking over their shoulders. But Gideon didn’t slow, and he didn’t let them shake him from their trail, no matter how quickly they ducked and dodged. He would chase them all the way back to Chicago, if that’s what it took. Finally, they were forced to slow, and Gideon took advantage of the unexpected break in their pace, jumping through the air to land on the man’s back, tackling him to the ground.
