“And what about your beautiful Emma? Does he love her enough, too?” Pointedly, he looked up at the ceiling, his gaze turning thoughtful. “The chains will have to be longer, of course. She’s not quite as tall as you are.”

Jesse reeled back, and tried to swallow, but Marcus’s words had been like a kick to the throat, crushing his voice box. He couldn’t even choke out a threat. Not that a threat would do any good. There was absolutely nothing he could do to keep Marcus away from her. He tried to tell himself Gideon wouldn’t allow it. Gideon wouldn’t let him take her.

But Gideon couldn’t stop him from taking you, could he?

Marcus picked up the sports bottle and went to the door. When his hand went to the switch, however, he hesitated and glanced back.

“Let’s leave the lights on, shall we?” He smiled. “I’d hate for you to miss the reunion.”

Without another word, he walked out, the lock echoing where it clicked into place.
