Seas of Wonder

Silas was born to one of the top clans of the dragon race, the Audric clan. Due to his disability he was kicked, literally, off of the the mountain where he was born. He was then met with his master who taught him everything about life and trained him to be independent in this tumultuous world. Even though he is blind, Silas wants to encounter the wonders of the world. Hello, please enjoy this book, this is my first ever piece of work I have a definitive plan on even if I don't really have an ending in the works, only the first part. I really wanted to craft the story around a blind person and what it would be like. This was kinda retconned after the drafting due to mana but it is still important to the character. I also really wanted to build a world around pirates. I'm greatly inspired by one piece in terms of story telling and world building, as well as the pirates of course, but I wanted to kind of create it like that. I'm going to try to create the cover for the book but I'll be using a place holder for now. If I can't figure out how to do so then oh well it is what it is.

Silas awoke feeling pain all over his body. He rolled around groggily before he realized that he was laying on something soft, much different than the hard ground he had passed out on earlier. His hands groped around the thing he was laying on trying to figure out what it was. It was the softest thing that he'd ever felt.

"Are you awake?" A voice came from close beside him. Silas shot straight up at this sudden sound, looking around in confusion and shock before remembering about his mana sense, sending it out as fast as he could. "Who are you?!" He asked scooting back because he was afraid at the unknow situation. He heard the feminine voice laugh back at him and gazed at her more intensely through his mana.

The woman had a short hair that went went a little past her face, had a kind of piercing look and a pretty figure. She was a short, young woman but that was about all that Silas could make out because he was so groggy.

"Ha ha, don't be so scared." She said in a coy tone, "You were passed out at the edge of the forest and, woah what's up with your eyes?" The voice said in surprise. The woman stared closer at Silas laying in the bed before her and saw that his eyes were twinkling with a gold light, much different than the normally dull, lifeless look they gave off.

Silas put his hand to his face after hearing her question and realized his blindfold wasn't there. "Where is it?" He said in a slightly angry tone. The woman sitting next to him was slightly startled. His tone was a stark contrast to when he had first awoken. "I'm sorry, I took it off when I was treating you and bathing you." Her voice was softer than her previous jab.

"You did what. Why?" Silas was confused and still apprehensive towards the young woman. She took a few moments to respond. "Well I found you unconscious outside of the forest covered in deep wounds." Her voice sounded compassionate. "I took you into my home to treat you, I couldn't leave you there to die."

"What happened in there how were you so injured by the edge of the forest?" She asked in confusion a second later. The edge of the jungle was the safest place and the only harm you would get is from bandits that didn't fear the law and the young man definitely had beast wounds across his body. There was no way he could've gotten out of the farthest parts of the jungle with those wounds nor could he have gotten those wounds in the closer regions.

Silas thought back to what happened in the forest he pulled his knees up to his chest and tears formed in his eyes. "They're all dead, everyone I meet dies." Silas choked out with grief seemingly talking to himself. "What is wrong with me."

He went silent for a few moments and then stood up out of the bed and looked at the young woman. "Where is my blindfold, I cannot stay by you or you'll be harmed." He stared at her intensely trying to get her to give up the whereabouts of his blindfold.

The young woman stared at him with pity and sighed, "Mister, I'm not gonna die. Now lay back down and get some rest." She put her hand on his bandaged chest and pushed him back onto the bed. He obediently laid down as if he just realized the pain he was in. He let the grief and sorrow and weakness swallow him back to sleep.

Silas woke up in the same soft bed and he no longer felt as much discomfort with his body. The warm light was cascading onto his body from the bedside window making him feel some form of comfort in his unfamiliar situation. The warmth from the sunlight brought energy into the body that hadn't moved in who knows how long. Silas slowly moved the blanket and stood out of the bed and stretched. He felt like he hadn't used a muscle in ages.

The young dragon took a few steps and as he neared the door he could hear a faint shouting with his enhanced hearing. "He has been here for 3 days, why would you bring this random person into our house!?" A masculine voice reverberated in an unpleasant tone.

"He was on his last breath on the edge of the jungle I couldn't just leave him there." Another voice argued back, this one belonging to the young woman who was in the room before. The male voice shot back, "Why were you by those woods in the first place? You know how dangerous it is, and don't tell me that the edge isn't dangerous. Look at the guy you just brought in, he was near dead at the edge of the forest. Never go to that dastardly jungle again!" The voice continued to get louder and louder.

Silas then opened the door and walked out into the living area that was connected to the kitchen where the two people were arguing. The people seemed pretty well off because they had a fireplace. Silas did not know what most of the things in the room were but his mana sense did catch a hint of mana pulsing next to the basin they had in the kitchen as well as the a cold aura from a large cupboard of sorts.

"I am sorry, I'll leave now. I didn't want to be here anyways." Silas said in the direction of the two. He turned to leave but then stopped remembering something. "Do you have my blindfold miss, I need that before leaving." Silas' mind was feeling a lot more clear than the last meeting between the two. He got his emotions in check and kept to himself.

The man had just stood there staring disapproving of Silas' presence and the woman hurriedly made her way to one of the adjoining rooms to bring out the blindfold. It was rather awkward for Silas as he just stood there not really knowing what to say. He then grabbed the only thing that reassured him these days ,his ring that was still hung around his neck, and was silent for a few moments while rubbing it. Silas then asked out of the blue, "Do you know the closest place I can learn formations around here.

The man was silent for a moment and then let out a snort. "Did you hit your head too hard in that jungle. Formations have been banned on the latter part of the archipelago for years. I swear this woman..." The man replied to Silas in a condescending tone.

Just then the woman came out of the room with the blindfold in hand. She handed it to Silas and said, "I'm sorry for my husband, he's just concerned about me. How are you feeling? Oh my name is Brenna what's yours?"

Slightly overtaken by the barrage of questions Silas took a few moments to answer as he tied the blindfold around his head. "My name is Silas, I'm perfectly fine thank you for taking care of me and the new clothes but I must be going now. Your husband seems to not like me very much."

"Damn right." He snorted.

After that said, Silas opened the front door and walked out. Brenna stood in the doorway and yelled, "If you need anything you can come-"

"No you can't stay gone, don't come back." Her husband shouted, cutting Brenna off. He pulled her away from the door and slammed it. The sounds of arguing could be heard from behind the closed door. Silas walked out of the entrance area of the house and onto the road. A carriage flew past him with no regard to the pedestrians on the road.

The house was situated on a street tightly packed with many other houses and it led to a small circular area with a fountain in the middle that had many different roads leading out of it. There was one large road that went from the entrance of the city to the circle and had various shops lining the street. Thousands upon thousands of people were walking through the various streets and the center area.

All of the roads from the entrance and along the city gradually sloped down towards a massive port with dozens of ships docked and many people moving objects off and on of these boats with many more sailing off into the distance. Hymns were being projected into the circle from a giant cathedral that was next to it. These hymns could be heard from a long while away. People dressed in light grey robes could be seen walking in and out of the cathedral. Outside of the cathedral was a majestic statue of a dragon circling around a pillar with hundreds of rune carvings in it. The runes were from the ancient magus language.

Silas walked a little further onto the street and his ears were assaulted by the noise of all the people at once and he went slightly deaf, he had never heard this much noise in his life. Silas was used to his quiet life in the forest with the occasional howl from some rampaging beasts. All of this was foreign to him and he felt overwhelmed from the influx of noise. Clutching his ears, Silas stepped off to the side and focused his breathing.

He activated his mana sense and projected out as far as he could. He felt the various 1 to 2 story houses around him and felt the people's footsteps on the ground. The houses were a little better than rustic cottages but they felt like they belonged to the city. He made his way around these people and walked to the central area with the fountain.

There was a large mana force coming out of the fountain and dispersing through the air, heightening the surrounding mana. Silas felt slightly more at peace standing next to this fountain but he still felt very uncomfortable in this new environment. He looked for the closest place that had the least noise and made his way into an old, worn out alleyway between the houses.

Trying to describe the city as I imagine it. Never done this before.
