Part 52: Trust

The cloaked man pointed at the pier and I couldn't control my body from moving that way. My mind was almost blank and I couldn't warn myself from what was happening. He was just looking at the horizon while I slowly start to walk over to the pier.

Each step was making me feel numb and my mind began to grow tired and sleepy. I felt like a ragdoll under the control of a puppeteer and I couldn't do anything.

This was a real nightmare that I cannot awake from.

I could only look at the moon with its rainbow surrounding it. Stars shine like they were trying to wake me up from this drunk dream. My lips turned dry as I wanted to jump into the water.

My breaths were starting to get short as I walked near the edge.

A scream left my mouth as I fell from the edge of the pier.

A silent scream left Caroline's lips. The cloaked man whipped his head into the direction of the pier and bolted with inhuman speed.

"Caroline!" 'How can this be?' He asked himself.

Caroline's POV

As I was underwater, waiting for my death, someone dove into the water.

My eyes widened in confusion, fear, and shock.

I stared at the person before me...Harvey.

He looked at me with a hurt and worried expression. His hair was winter white. His eyes glow with a purple hue amidst the darkness of the water surrounding us. His cloak floats around him.

I looked down and gasped underwater.

He has a tail!

Harvey has a tail!!

Is he also a siren?!

His tail was like no other. A shining white and gold-colored tail with giant and elegant fins. My lungs start to fill with water as I try to swim away from him.

He hurriedly swam to me and brought me to the surface.

Harvey gently laid me on the sand and did CPR. I coughed off the water from my lungs but avoided looking at him.

"Caroline..." He sadly said behind me. "Please look at me."

I shook my head as I looked at the sand. "So...you're a siren?"

Harvey took my hand in his and pulled me to look at him. I looked at his figure, especially his tail. I looked at his eyes and they were still the shining color of purple. He nodded and his tail shined with light and transformed back into his legs.

He held my hand tightly. "I can explain-"

I took my hand away from him and stood up. "You just hypnotized me...and almost killed me. Tell me it was an accident."

Harvey nodded and stood up quickly, hugging me tightly. His warmth sent tears into my eyes. "I didn't know it was you until you...Caroline I'm sorry."

I pushed him away and saw the immense hurt in his eyes. "You also killed someone today. I thought you're already done with the killing. Don't tell me you do this every day for fun?" I said with disbelief. No wonder he's always out every night. The hurt in my heart is just the same as what is written on his face right now.

"Caroline-"

"Save it." I said as I walked away. " I can't believe you never told me you were a siren. After so many things we've been through together." He never trusted me enough just as much as I did. I told him every and everything but what is this? "I thought I already know you...I was wrong." Sirens live for so long and I couldn't even imagine how old he already is.

"Caroline!" I hear him call from far away as I ran through the shortcut to my house.
