The Journey Back

As the convoy started to head back home, James noticed that the convoy looked a lot smaller compared to before. There were some carts that were heavily guarded by the knights. These should be the rewards that the prince and his soldiers received for helping out during this period.

Thinking back about his journey in The Holy City of Hermes, James felt that he might come back again in the future. However for at least the coming five years, James wants to spend his time together with his beloved Loraine.

As the convoy moved forward, they arrived at the northern region of the kingdom before the day turned dark. As the prince was also traveling with the caravan, he and his high ranking officers would be staying at the lord's castle. As for the rest of the soldiers, they were situated at the feet of the castle in tents.

Sharing a tent with the three knights he got acquainted with, James was the one in charge to prepare the dinner. The ration the soldiers would get was not that much. Every group received some oatmeal and beef jerky for dinner. Deciding to heat up the food, James build up a small campfire to warm up the food before dividing it all again between the members of the group.

As darkness covered the skies, the four knights were surrounding the camp fire. The atmosphere was rather lively. Recalling moments that happened during the battles, James told them the story about how he got his first demonic beast kill by accident. Laughter could be heard from their group.

Other groups that also formed their own camp fires also had similar mood, as they were also enjoying their journey back.

Before leaving the holy city, James bought an extra bottle of the drink that they had drunk during the celebration. Revealing the drink, James said, "Well, I guess that this is also a celebration. So this calls for one of these fine drinks."

The other three knights were rather enthusiast when they saw the bottle. Warren licked his lips, as if he already could taste the drink.

Even Francis who usually kept his cool was eager to drink it up again. Extending his cup Francis said, "What are you waiting for? Pour our cups already!" Hearing this, the other two also extended their cups, waiting for James to fill the cups.

As the cups were filled the conversation that they had heated up again. This time, they were talking about the people waiting for them back home. Being the oldest one of the group, Francis revealed that he had a little girl waiting for him. His daughter was barely four. The normally brave and strong knight, melted when talking about his daughter.

During this conversation, James revealed that he was going to get married when he returned back to the city. The family of the girl that he was engaged to said that if he survived The Months of Demon in Hermes, that they would show no obstacle for their marriage.

Warren laughed at this reasoning as it was rather familiar to him. He also had the same task to do before getting together with the girl he loved. Laughing about the fate that the two knights shared, the night passed smoothly.

The next day, the convoy headed out ones more towards The King's City.
