Turbulent Waves

As North looked at the books before him, his hand first went to the book about magic. But before he began reading, he made a note to himself to remember to go to the cafeteria to eat.

Despite being a villager who would typically not be capable of reading, North had learned how to read. Hugo was a merchant, and as a result had to keep many documents of transactions. Due to Hugo dragging North around as a servant, he was constantly exposed to the dealings Hugo made.

North had made an avid effort in his childhood to take advantage of the small bonuses his servitude had provided him. So when he realized he could've learned how to read, he spared all effort for reading when on a trip with Hugo.

His ability to easily assimilate knowledge due to the intelligence he'd been born with had helped North incredibly. Without it, any normal person would have realized the futility of their actions, yet any setback for North was simply a testament to his growth.

After spending a few hours reading the book however, North had realized that despite his attempt at learning how to read, the book about magic was simply using words too hard. North was capable of using context clues to help him learn the words, but it slowed down the process considerably.

By the time that he had allotted himself for spending on the book, he was not even a quarter through it. North let out a sigh, yet he wasn't disheartened. His red eyes instead burned with a fiery passion, as if research was something that had been second nature to him.

North collected himself, organizing the thoughts and knowledge he had been able to learn from the book so far. He looked back down at the markings which moved with the same crawling motion it always had. Instead of looking at it with confusion, a small light of understanding lit his mind.

'There is too much I don't know, but from what I have read so far... There are several different types of energies, the majority of which are used by this, the Lifelink.' North thought to himself, he was beginning to get up.

If he was planning on going to the cafeteria, then North needed to be wearing his uniform. So he changed before leaving, his mind still ruminating on the information about magic. 'I'm hungry. Studying constantly after finally having the leisure to do whatever I'd like seemed productive, but I wonder if I'll have a headache during my first lesson tomorrow...'

Yet, as his mind was busy planning his next course of actions, North had noticed too late when an older boy shoulder checked him. The boy had been a foot taller than north and broad shoulders, his skin was bronze colored.

When North's mind finally returned to reality, he observed the entire scene in less than half a second. He was followed by three boys, bumped by one, and the route he'd been taking had other older students who were now watching him.

No one intervened, the older boy who bumped into him turned and said, "Kid, I heard about your arrival. If you're planning on staying here then you need to learn the rules of this place." Before he could finish his sentence, North's fist found the older boy's face.

North then pivoted on one foot and turned to the three aggressors running at him. One of them went to punch him, but he grabbed his arm and twisted it, slamming the kid on his face against the floor. Then he kicked another kid in the stomach with enough force that it even surprised him.

The kid he kicked skidded on his feet backwards, still standing and seemingly just as surprised by his target's strength.

Unluckily for North, he only had so much explosive strength before his aggressors would get accustomed to his speed. The third boy of his trailers had managed to punch North. All four boys, the three which tailed, and the one which bumped into him, now surrounded him.

The punch had not done much damage to North, but his stance was unsteady after the kick, so he was knocked backwards losing the space he gained. North had never meant to play through their rules though and he knew he had to win this fight if he wanted to avoid being targeted.

He wasn't sure as to why he was getting attacked, yet he couldn't show his attackers weakness and only incite future incidents. He knew if he showed weakness that the bullies would simply come back later, and so he thought he needed to uproot any chances of it occurring in the future.

When North had gotten his ass whooped by his village bullies, he had been surrounded by many more than were now here. Yet those village kids had no idea how to fight, so North knew he couldn't count on his previous experience. With his back up against a wall, four attackers in front of him and slowly gaining, he was prepared to take a few hits in order to exchange.

North's only experience with fighting was with the kids at the village, but his own growth rate was scary to any who witnessed it. Whenever North was explained something, he was capable of understanding it almost immediately or after a few questions. After years of combat against his bullies, he developed the ability to fight multiple opponents in hand to hand combat pretty well, for his age.

Using his small weight, North leaped at the leftmost kid, it had been the one who's face was punched. His feet found their way slamming across the child's face before landing on him. Yet he didn't stop moving, North swept his foot underneath the closest kid, tripping him.

North wasn't safe however, like he had thought, he was going to take a hit if he wanted to throw one. After tripping the closest kid, one of his aggressors ran up to him while he was crouching and kicked North in the face. North managed to block the hit with his arms as he crossed them like an x.

Yet he was sent tumbling backwards, sliding across the floor for a fair distance.
