Beth looked at Vernox, wondering why he would ask such question. She looked at him as she thought that he didn't remember the reason.

"I chose to be your maid...on my own free will. And your father approved of it."

He was confused and he asked "Why did you choose it though?" he stared at her as if he has found a treasure and didn't want her to escape his sight.

"Remember...you saved me from the humans when my family was assassinated tens of years ago"

...Flashback.....

The horse was high and the day was normal.

There was a small house inside the forest made out of wood and two children were seen in front of the house playing around.

"Beth, try to keep up" a young boy shouted as he ran around the building and a little girl followed.

This was Beth and her brother Dean Edogar of the Edogar family. He has black hair like Beth's and his hair was also short. The two siblings that looked alike played around and we're smiling and happily.

"Beth, Dean, come on were leaving"

Beside the house where the children played there was a man and a woman who were loading stuff into a carriage.

The whole family were dragon kin demons as they had those black horns.

Beth and Dean rushed into the carriage and sat with their mom while their dad started riding the horse that pulled it.

Shayla Edogar, Beth's mom was a young beautiful woman with her straight blood red hair and her light yellow eyes. She has a perfect facial structure and body that could allure any man on sight.

Harry Edogar, their father, on the other hand was a little above average. He has short black hair and red eyes that looked calm yet intimidating.

If anyone saw him and his wife they would probably wonder - How did it happen?.

Shayla looked like a princess and Harry looked quite... ordinary.

But never judge a book by it's cover. Harry was a high ranking demon and was the captain of the shadow guards that protected the kingdom from the shadows and works with the shadows.

After a few hours of riding Harry swerved the carriage and led them into the bushes.

"Mommy where are we going?" Beth asked with an innocent look on her cute face.

It was clear that she had her father's eyes. Those red eyes that looked beautiful yet dangerous.

"We are going to meet the rest of the family...you can finally see your cousin" she said as she played with Beth's cute cheeks.

"Really, we get to see cousin Summer"

Dean looked excited as he mentioned that name. Their cousin Summer was a young talented man with a spot in the demon Lord's side as one of his generals.

Dean also wanted to be a great soldier in the future.

...Close by, in the forest....

A boy was seen sitting on a branch of a tall tree. He seems to be looking at some creatures from above.

From a glance, they looked like wolves from earth but they were bigger.

Their skin was red with peculiar yellow engravings on their fur. Their claws shimmered as the sunlight reflected on the silver like claws.

*Arhh*

One of them noticed Vernox sitting on a tree and immediately alerted the others that were around.

"*Sigh*...Guess my cover is blown"

He stood straight on the branch and looked at the three wolves coming towards him.

A dagger with a blood red blade appeared in his hand and he jumped towards the creatures.

He fought off the creatures fiercely but they were too aggressive and injured him here and there.

After a while...the last wolf fell as Vernox slashed it's stomach from below.

"Huff....huff..."

He looked at himself and saw that he had a huge claw mark on his chest. He put his hand in a small pouch and brought out a glass vial that had some golden liquid in it.

He downed the potion and his wounds were visibly healing at a fast pace.

"I'll keep trying to improve for now" he said as he started walking to another place to continue hunting.

A small number of people was entering a large building deep inside the forest. They should be between 15 - 20 people.

The Edogar family walked in with the few people that were there.

"Summer!!!" Beth shouted as she ran from her parents towards a man who resembled Harry a lot.

"My sweet Little Beth...hmm"

He accepted her hug with open arms. Dean also went to have his own share as he ran and hugged Summer as well.

Shayla and Harry went to Summer and greeted him and some other people who were around.

...

A few minutes later all of the people were gathered around and we're discussing some issue.

"We can't let them take the Arid lands too, that's a sacred battle ground"

"I agree with Harry, the Arid lands is one of the landmarks of the demon territory"

"But if we give them peace will reign...."

"What useless peace. How many decades have the humans been on our tail. What makes you think that they would stop after we give them the land"

"We can't... let's use the advantage to assasinate and kill them"

All the people there were in a heated argument on how to achieve peace with the humans with or without their land.

These people were called the 'shadow guards' a special team that the demon Lord can call upon to do dirty jobs for him.

They were called shadow guards because of their ability to use shadow magic to fight and as they mostly do things in the night.

They were all Edogars and the shadow technique has been passed down from generations before.

This raised their status in the demon kingdom.

They lived at random places around the kingdom in the forest so that they can know when the kingdom is in danger and stop it.

"What do you think they are talking about Dean?" Beth asked as they peeped out of the carriage towards the building.

"Probably how to stop the humans and get peace" Dean held his little sister close.

Their parents told them to stay in the carriage as the talk isn't for children anyways.

And that's when they spotted some hooded people going towards the building.

"Ah...more people" Dean was surprised as everyone arrived much earlier. But these set of people looked very weird though...like humans.
