Chapter Two: Why is Hades calling me Persephone?!

I was a firm beleiver in Greek Mythology. I believed that I was, in fact, travelling toward the Underworld via a dark river, to the home of Hades. So, when I felt a hand pull me out by my own hand, I was surprised. "Dear me, why were you in the river?" a deep, gravely voice asked me. I was confused, and I assumed Hades meant it hadn't been my time to die yet.

"Persephone, we've spoken about this. I do not care if you want to escape from here earlier than the deal states, you are not allowed. I am sure Demeter would be overjoyed... Persephone, why wont you open your eyes and sit up?"

I had been staying very still. I could not understand why Hades kept calling me Persephone. I would not open my eyes for fear he thought me an imposter, posing as Persephone. I was more afraid, in that moment, than I had been before telling my family about... that.

I gasped as Hades lifted me into his arms, bridal style. He laughed quietly. "Well, if you wont wake, I'll put you into your bed. That was the deal we made, a few years ago, wasnt it?" I allowed a small smile to play across my lips. "I know your awake, Perse, why do you keep pretending to sleep?" he asked, concern woven into his voice. Why did he call me Perse? Is that a nickname? I didnt open my eyes, but desided to test my luck. Mabey, if Hades thought I looked like Persephone, he thought I sound like her, too? I should be so lucky if he did. "Im just tired, thats all..." I murmered, and realised my voice did not sound like my own. Like Persephone's? Hades seemed to thoroughly believe I was Persephone, which was good. "Oh. Okay then. I hope you sleep well." I snuggled into his shoulder and slept.
