CH: 2/I'm Still Dead!

"Wandering Spirit?!" I shout out in shock. Floating in front of me is the book I was given by Azmaveth. In a very video gamey format, is a status written on the pages. The first page says this:

Passive Skills: Language Comprehension, Ghostly Body

New: Language Comprehension

Allows the skill owner to be able to understand, speak, and write any language spoken or written language, regardless of if it's still spoken.

New: Ghostly Body

The skill owners' body cannot be hit by purely physical attacks. Magic enhanced physical attacks can still hit, and purely magical attacks do more damage than normal, especially {Light} and {Holy} type attacks. Skill owner cannot attack physically but can attack with magic. Beings with the {Death} and/or {Holy} class or race type can see you regardless. You can see other's that have the {Ghostly Body} skill, and they can see you. You can attack those with the {Ghostly Body} skill

Active Skills: Inspect, Inventory, Materialize, Scare

New: Inspect

Allows the skill owner to see the stats and status of a specific individual.

New: Inventory

Allows the skill owner to open a pocket dimension, capable of storing anything that is not alive, undead, or automated.

New: Materialize

Can only be used if the skill owner has the {Ghostly Body} skill. Allows the skill owner to go between states of corporeality, changing their stats and weaknesses, alongside allowing them to attack physically. Can also be used to reveal the skill owner to select people in their Incorporeal state. Also changes what people see when using inspection skills or items.

New: Scare

Allows the skill owner to (if they have the {Ghostly Body} skill) suddenly appear while making a scary noise, scaring the target, and those within earshot who are not considered friendly.

After reading the descriptions of each skill, they disappear, 'I'll just have to remember what each one does, I guess.'

As if sensing I was done using it, the book closes and disappears. I panic for a moment, trying to call it back.

"Uh... Status book?" With that the book returned, opened and showing the first page, which I saw earlier. I come to the conclusion that I can summon this book into existence and get rid of it in the same way.

I focus on the book, subconsciously telling it to go away. I swear I could feel a little bit of child-like sadness coming from the book, but I just decide to ignore it for now.

The book disappears, and I look around, spotting a zombie, groaning with a raspy breath. It's rotten and missing an arm and part of its face revealing its skull, but oddly, I don't feel sick while looking at it.

'What is wrong with me? I am fairly certain I should be throwing up at the sight of this. Maybe my mentality changed a bit when I reincarnated? It's the only explanation...'

I try walking over to the zombie, but instead find myself floating over to them, 'Weird, but not unwelcome I guess.'

I reach the zombie, which is facing towards me, 'They can't see me, right?' I think to myself. The zombie doesn't appear to be looking at me. Suddenly, the zombie straightens up and raises its arm, running towards me.

I yelp and cover my face with my arms, expecting the worst. I uncover my eyes, and turn around, see the zombie running at a familiar figure.

'Grim? What's she doing here?' I watch as Grim materializes a dark looking weapon in her hands. The weapon is a scythe made with what looks to be a long spine of some kind, and the blade is an eerie black, curved downwards.

Grim just stands there while the zombie rushes her, suddenly readying their scythe. Once the zombie got within range, Grim swung her weapon in a perfect horizontal line, cutting the zombie in two.

'That looked so effortless...' I think. I then see grim dematerialize her scythe and walk over to me.

"Hey Milaina." She says casually. I smile a little and return the greeting. Grim yawns, "So I'll get right to the point. Azmaveth's friend made a mistake when creating your status book, and accidentally made you into a Wandering Spirit as I'm sure you've noticed by now."

I nod, prompting her to continue, "So she and Azmaveth discussed how to fix this problem and came up with this: Azmaveth will grant you a blessing, turning you into a necromancer, which in this world necromancy is perfectly legal, just regulated."

Grim yawns again before continuing, "He also wanted me to give you this." Grim pulls out an unlit lantern, "This is a Soul Well. It allows you to collect souls, which can be used in necromancy."

She hands me the lantern. I take it and it lights up with a green flame and floats out of my hand behind me. Grim nods in satisfaction, "Another thing. Any sentient souls you collect will be automatically sent to me to give to Azmaveth. We can't let you do things with conscious souls. But as a reward, I'll grant you evolution points."

"Evolution points are used by system owners to evolve their race into a higher form. For example, currently you are a Lesser Wandering Spirit. You can use fifty points to evolve into a normal Wandering Spirit, making you stronger, alongside granting more status points per level up."

Grim asks me if I got all that to which I say yes. Grim then adds one more thing, "You can do anything you want with monster souls. Like make chimeras once your strong enough, give your undead personalities, hell, even bring inanimate objects to life!"

Grim yawns deeply, "Anyways, last thing. I wouldn't reveal your true race to strangers, or untrustworthy people. They may try to kill you, and honestly, I don't want to see your name on my list for a very, very long time."

Grim materializes her scythe and turns around, "This is goodbye, for now at least." I say goodbye as she does a downward slash with her scythe, tearing a hole in what looks like the fabric of reality. Grim goes through the tear, causing it to close when she is through.

I summon my status book and look at it again.

I unsummon my status book and look around Soon spotting a lone undead skeleton. I float over to it and try using bone spike on it.

The ground trembles slightly, as a bone white spike erupts from it, impaling the skeleton, which fell apart as soon as the spike hit its skull.

"Dang, that was effective." I open my status book after hearing the notification and see that my experience went up by twenty!

"Ok, just four more skellies. I can do that. Que the montage!"

I wipe my forehead out of pure habit (Not that I can sweat anymore.) I look around and see the trail of bones I left, "I think I went a little over my target. Oh well."

I open my status book and look at my 'personal info' page as I've been calling it in my head.
