Chapter 38

Twenty five years of existence.

Twenty five years and nothing more.

Twenty five years and yet I'm still here.

I've celebrated my birthday for a hundred of times and honestly, it has become a habit in my life. A'liu would stay with me, sometimes I would just be with my parents and my in laws.

An Yi Wei couldn't be bothered with it and it's fine, it's not like I was still that infatuated Caia who longs for his love.

It's just another day for me, but for the people I love it's a celebration that couldn't just pass like any normal day and that is sometimes a blessing and a curse for me.

See, they're celebrating my existence yet I know in my heart how much I hated the fact that I still exist. It's been a long time since the moment I first knew that I couldn't die and that lead me into thinking that my existence is a curse, it's one of those moments where I have mixed feelings.

I don't know, I'm happy that someone still remembers me yet not at the same time.

"Stand up, bow! Goodbye teacher Caia!" The class monitor and the class said in unison.

"Thank you for the gifts everyone" One thing that changed though is that I get to feel the children's sincerity with their gifts.

"Happy birthday teacher Caia!" I burst into laughter and hugged each of them before leaving.

My coworkers greeted me, even our principal and now I am bombarded with text messages either from A'liu, my parents and some of the people I knew.

I went inside my car and was about to turn the ignition switch when my phone vibrated, I took it out and saw Xuexue's message.

Happy birthday, I hope you a happy and blessed life

Happiness.

An emotion that I haven't yet fully received yet tried to give it to the people I love.

It's one of those things that I needed when I was still in my early past lives but now, it's something that I know I couldn't achieve.

I don't think I'll ever be happy living in this made up world.

It was the day after my birthday and now I'm here in the airport, picking up my parents.

"Caia! My precious darling!" I was immediately hug by my mother, there was some slight wrinkles visible in her forehead.

"Caia, happy birthday" I hugged my loving father, you can see some white hair in his head and I couldn't help but feel distressed.

My parents are still in their early forties yet they couldn't enjoy their golden years because their precious daughter couldn't inherit the family business.

"Ma, pa, thank you" I smiled sweetly at them, I held both of their hands and like a child, we went together.

My parents couldn't leave the business for a long period of time and so they only have three days worth of time but it was enough for me.

Though I could still remember the disappointment and the burning anger in their eyes, I forgive them.

It's not their fault, and also not mine but who am I going to blame to?

It's been a long time but I would be lying if I wasn't as disappointed and aggrieve that they didn't trust me. But it was in the script, it wouldn't change.

But it may now.

"Where are we going Ma?" I buckle my seat belt as I watch my father drive out to somewhere.

If I'm celebrating my birthday with my parents, we would always go to a high end restaurant or a café and sometimes go to places where we have the best memories together.

"It's a secret!" I pursed my lips and waited till about half an hour.

It didn't take too long for us to arrive and that's when I realized where we are right now.
