Chapter 91: The Challenge (2)

Cao Guang stepped on to the stage under the ruckus of the audience. There probably wasn't a single person who didn't want to challenge him. Zhou Zhu was an exception because of him helping her.

But first things first, it was time for the rank one battle between Nanrong Xu and Cao Guang. Nanrong Xu had won the battle two weeks ago, only to be challenged again this week and by someone who was twenty ranks apart.

Since it was the rank one battle of the lightning institute, students from other classes and campuses were slowly turning up as well. Every rank one battle tensed to attract a large enough crowd.

Cao Guang had done his due diligence on Nanrong Xu and knew that his talent was being able to draw a Star Orbits much faster than normal, Cao Guang estimated that he could probably draw them with a single thought as well.

Regardless of what spell Nanrong Xu casted basic or intermediate, he needed to be in a place to survive the first strike and end it later.

Battles between Basic and Intermediate mages rarely went on for too long. Not just because of the spiritual energy they held, but because of the dexterity of spells and the fact some equipment needed a Star Galaxy to activate.

Lin Mu took everyone's attention with his words as he initiated the match.

Cao Guang erupted with two spirit grade fires as the Little Flame Belle emerged from the contract space and possessed him.

Nanrong Xu had already completed his spell as Lightning bolts came at him.

Lightning Strike Electric Field

Just like he had expected, in order to fight him and his possession form better the man had used Soul Essences to bring his third tier Basic spell to the fourth tier.

That along with his talent would have ensured a clean first strike. Cao Guang however started on the defensive and activated his defensive equipment to protect himself as Little Flame Belle converged the fires.

Their combined attacks were stronger when Little Flame Belle controlled the flames and when he connected his Star Orbits, but they weren't necessary for them. While Cao Guang had better defences in this form he was still only human.

He activated the defences while Little Flame Belle went on the offensive by borrowing the Prairie Flames from him.

Meteorite Fist Nine Dragons Rise

Instead of Nine Dragons emerging from the first, nine columns of fire erupted near Nanrong Xu as they threw him into disarray.

The flames were stronger and hotter than any he had seen on an intermediate mage, he had spammed a couple more Lightning strikes using his talent to hold Cao Guang, while preparing a Star Pattern.

He had not expected the man to be able to cast a spell under the pain of lightning overloading his nerves. Cao Guang had the lightning element as well and therefore some resistance, but the guy spammed more spells to overload his body.

What he didn't know was the fact that the Little Flame Belle had attained a new ability to fight her father. Nanrong Xu was thrown out of the ring even after he activated his defensive equipment and needed Lin Mu to intercept.

Considering the speed at which Lin Mu intercepted, he was finally sure that teacher Lin was a Super mage.

Cao Guang felt like shit as he smelt himself being cooked by lightning, he looked like a charred corpse rather than a person at this point. He hadn't expected the guy to be this difficult to beat.

He looked up and saw that the lightning school was not suprised or ashamed after he won, he had seen a spark for battle in their eyes. These guys were lunatics.

Cao Guang could have broken their fighting spirit if he wish to. He just needed to summon all three of his Warrior level beasts and their fighting spirit would evaporate, but teacher Lin being the diabolical mastermind had bribed with an important resource if he encouraged the students instead of discouraging them.

Which meant he had to experience pain like he never had to before if he wanted to get that thing.

Cao Guang looked at Nanrong Xu being treated and said to him " You did well , you planned ahead and executed it well ", his words drew nothing but a scowl from the man, but the audience approved of him better after the words.

Still they had no reservations in challenging him in scores. According to Lin Mu about two hundred students had registered. Even Zhou Zhu had changed her mind after watching the battle.
