Chapter 23: Combat Instructor Fei Jiao

Their assessments were over, all that was remained was reporting to their Combat Instructor and switching out equipments. They all needed new equipment desperately in the intermediate level. Gao Xuan's defensive spell would start to outperform his equipment as soon as he could learn to cast it.

Every Sergeant that had passed lined up in military formation before their instructor got there.

"Soldiers, I'm your military instructor Fei Jiao and I'll be your instructor till the point you can convince me you are all capable of fitting into other Lieutenant's squads or wherever you're going to be appointed. Is that clear? Good"

" From now I'll be guiding your cultivation personally. You are allowed to contact me on these matters within a set hours. During your training you guys will work in groups of four and will be handling shifts on the wall. Now as I call your names, come and meet me inside" said Fei Jiao pointing at his office.

Fei Jiao was officer in his thirties, he was at the peak of Advanced level and was seeking a challenges to break through to Super level. Occasionally he would lead troops into the Undead territories at night.

Gao Xuan was the first in the group to be called in. 

" Sit down" 

" I have your file and hold your questions there will be a time for that. Your an intermediate mage in Earth and your secondary spell is Light. Have you decided to be a defensive mage. If you have allusions about being an all rounder or an offensive mage all of that has got to wait! "

" At your level it is not possible. You do not have the control required for switching classes like that. In the Advanced level army does not have any difference between offensive and defensive mages only scouts and healers are different. Do you get what I am saying. "

"Yes sir" said Gao Xuan meekly. It would lying if he said he didn't want to cast offensive spells and kill hordes of demon beasts. But at the intermediate level it was possible without extreme anomalies like Heaven grade seeds.

It would just be possible if he could awaken more of his Soul seed, but it seemed to have a requirement for his cultivation more than anything.

" All right then, practice your intermediate spell, the primary spell will come easy. You have to realise a butterfly is only born after coming out of its cocoon. Now go and send the next person in" said Fei Jiao after looking at Gao Xuan's facial expressions.

After a while it was Song Xia's turn.

"Sit down, I have read your file"

After advising so many young mages Fei Jiao seemed to have fallen to a rhythm, his efficiency was peaking.

" Sound and shadow both rare along with a suitable talent."

In the military Combat Instructors like Fei Jiao and previously Zhan Kong were like their teachers. They had a right to know your details and would go great lengths to protect their students.

" Your options are two in the intermediate level do you have an inkling to one, or have you chosen to be a scout".

These conversations were also a form of Psychological assessment of his students.

"For now I'll maximize my capabilities and later I will switch".

Song Xia was the type that had a goal, new her path and was starting to work towards it. Unlike Gao Xuan who was bit all over the place. 

" Very well, you will know your squads later. Now your focus should be your basic Shadow spell work towards the intermediate Sound spell later".

Fei Jiao quickly made an assessment of Song Xia and sent her away.

Right after Song it was Luo Heng's turn. He was a young genius from Ancient capital itself. Luo Heng was nineteen and an intermediate mage with primary Lightning and Secondary Fire. 

His talent allowed him twice as much spiritual energy as others.

"Luo Heng, currently your path is extremely limited, I am sure you understand that right?"

"Yes sir"

" I'll assign you to a balanced team".

In Fei Jiao's Luo Heng needed a 'crutch' to help him right now. He had too violet elements all right but no defensive or evasionary capabilities. 

Towards the end of the assessment it was Cao Guang's turn.

"Sit down, I had a chat with your teacher yesterday"

" I know about your four elements and your Dual Innate elements. Summoning, Fire, Lightning and Space. I read your report as well. You have a few options but my advise is to stick to the basics. Your Summoning element can grant your greatest help in the short term. But you don't need me to tell you about it so otherwise you should focus on your Space element and Mental Strength. 

With your multiple elements your Mental Strength will be given a huge boost. And as long as you can develop it to a high level it will be equivalent of a Heavenly seed"

Fei Jiao didn't know about his 'actual talent' his teacher and Zhan Kong had probably come to a decision about that. Dual elements were going to be his straw man talent.

Otherwise Fei Jiao's thoughts resonated with his own. He understood the potential of Space element. He wasn't underestimating his Lightning, but he had so prioritised the learning of his Space element spells. Although it was incredibly weak right now.

It was alright he just needed to court death a few times and it will grow in strength. Ancient Capital was a great place for that.

After everyone had their interview. Fei Jiao had decided on the temporary squads.

Song Xia, Cao Guang, Gao Xuan and Luo Heng was team with Cao Guang as a captain. Their first shift would be tommorow on the Outer Wall.
