Class representative.

The next day, as we settled into the class, Aizawa-sensei entered the room in his usual sleeping bag, and slumped up against the desk.

"I watched yesterday's exercise. Good work everyone." He said, his gaze lingering on me a moment longer.

"Now getting back to homeroom business. I'm sorry for the late notice but today I'll have you.." he said, getting comfortable in his bag, as a nervous atmosphere descended upon the class, "... decide on a class representative."

"Finally a normal school activity!" Everyone cheered and raised their hands for candidacy.

"I want to be the class rep! Pick me." Kirishima shouted, forst and foremost.

"Me too." Kaminari said.

"I want to do it too!" Jiro said.

"It's a job made for moi!" Aoyama said, only to be interrupted by Mina.

"Me! I'll be the leader!"

"Pick me! My manifesto is for all girl's skirts to be 30 cms above the knees!" Mineta screamed.

"Let me do it! ME!" Bakugo shouted.

As the class turned into a fish market, one stalwart voice rose above all others.

"Silence please!" Iida said attracting everyone's attention.

"It is a serious job with the responsibility of leading others. It is not just a job for anyone that wants it. It is a calling that requires the trust of those around you. If we want to use democracy to decide on a true leader, then we should hold an election to choose one."

"Your hand is raised the highest." Tsuyu pointed out.

"Why did you suggest that?" Kaminari asked.

"We haven't known each other for that long so how can we have trust or anything?" Tsuyu asked.

"If that's the case and everyone votes for themselves..." Kirishima suggested.

"Don't you think that is precisely why whoever receives multiple votes here can be truly considered the most suitable person?" Iida explained.

"What do you think Aizawa-sensei?" Iida asked.

"I don't care as long as you decide by the time homeroom is over." Aizawa-sensei replied.

"Thank you very much!" He said, as we began to cast votes.

The votes tallied to about what I expected.

Shikimori Haru - 8 votes

Midoriya Izuku - 3 votes

Momo Yaoyorozu - 2 votes

Mina Ashido - 1 vote

Mineta Minoru - 1 vote

Katsuki Bakugo - 1 vote

Aoyama Yuga - 1 vote

Hanta Sero - 1 vote

Iida Tenya - 1 vote

Tsuyu Asui - 1 vote

Heh? Eight votes. Who the fuck voted for me?

Haven't I killed the mood for two days straight now? For what? This?

Who in their right mind would ever vote for me?

"Why Deku? Who voted for him?" Bakugo shouted.

"Well, its better than voting for you." Sero said.

"1 vote.... someone voted for me?!" Iida muttered with joy.

"You voted for someone else huh?" Momo said.

"But you wanted to do it too?" Rikido wondered.

"What are you trying to do Iida?" He asked.

"Are you done then? Let'sget this over with." Aizawa-sensei said.

I stood up and walked to the podium with Deku and leaned against the desk.

"Thanks for voting for me. Now for my first act as president, I appoint Momo as vice president and Iida as president." I said nonchalantly and walked of the podium.

"What?!" Iida and the class cried in shock.

"Now that you mention it, you didn't raise your hand when asked for candidacy did you?" Kaminari said.

"Yeah, I noticed that too." Tsuyu said, " Don't you want to be the class representative?"

"You mean doing a useless job in a useless position, carrying a useless workload burden for absolutely no benefit? No thanks." I said.

"It's not a useless position! It is a prestigious role reserved for the most worthy of each batch!" Iida said, provoked to anger.

"Then aren't you the most worthy? Iida, you voted for me didn't you? Guess what? I voted for you. You are the one most worthy of doing this job. So stop bitching and climb that podium already!" I said.

"Why?" He asked looking at me with doubtful eyes.

"Why I picked you? Simple. Cuz you wanted it and seemed like the exact sort of guy that likes to waste their time in pointless roles for some vague worth or value. Even Momo was chosen as a foil for when you inevitably mess up. Don't worry yourself over it unnecessarily though. I'm sure you'll do fine enough. Not like there's anything actually important to do with this crap." I said.

"You-you disrespect this position? Why?" Iida asked fuming.

"Why what?"

"Why do you think it is useless?" Iida asked.

"It's useless because it is useless. There's nothing more to it. It goes as all committee jobs do. A phenomenal waste of everyone's time and money." I said.

"I don't believe that! It is meant to instill leadership qualities in students. It is a noble effort."

"What exactly are you going to lead in there? Scissors and staplers? The most you'll do is lead us to and from classes and trips. That's the job of a security guard, not a leader. Even sheepdogs can do it." I said.

"Even the small acts of guidance build a base for leadership in the future! And they do make important decisions that affect the lives of students and the school for the better!" Iida insisted.

I looked at him as if he were an idiot.

"Really? Why do you want to start an argument you know you'll lose Iida?" I sighed.

"Because I'll get to learn something new!" He said, smiling.

Damn.

Holy fuck. I mean holy fuck.

Since when has Iida been that mature about things. This is not canon Iida. Something has changed about him. I wonder what caused such a change?

He actuallly wanted to lose the argument and learn something new at the cost of his pride and beliefs?

A grin spread on my face at the thought.

Brilliant!

"Well then. I'll explain with an example. We're in Musutafu right?" I asked.

Everyone nodded.

"Do you remember a commitee about trash disposal that was formed some years back? With the new rules about days when you could throw away certain items?"

"Now that I think about it, there was some change in the trash schedule a couple years back." Kirishima noted.

"Guess what happened afterwards? Did the city become cleaner?"

"No. The city actually became dirtier. Nowadays, there's even more trash in the alleys, left for days until someone spots it and calls the garbage truck to pick it up. Really stinks up the whole neighborhood." Mina answered.

"Thats because the commitee decided that they knew better than everyone else how and when people should throw away their trash. And they didn't care if some people had certain jobs or habits. They saw a problem and like the hammers they were, nailed it down. What happened then, was that everyone started dumping their trash illegally at Dagobah beach. So much so that it became known as the Dagobah dump. Until Deku cleaned it up of course. Now it's back to being clean and pristine. That's what commitees do. They think they know better than everyone else and they mess up everyone's lives with their arrogance."

I said.

"But that's just one case. I'm sure that's not always true." Iida goaded me on with a smile.

"If you want another example just say so Iida. Don't play mind games. I'm not dumb." I said.

"Sure. I want more proof." He said.

"Well,...." I thought for a moment trying to remember another example.

"Aha! Right. The abandoned lots by Kamino ward. In a property bubble a couple years back, the city council haphazardly leased out the land to anyone that could develop it. Half the buildings were never finished and the ones that were, were never sold or settled into. Now it's a hive of illegal renters and squatters and at least three drug operations. The drug related crimes in Kamino have since increased by over 45%."

Deku nodded in realization.

"As I said, commitees are useless. No sane person would want to be on one of these." I finished.

"Well, I'm still going to do it. And I'll show you that commitees are awesome! I'll change your mind. Just you wait!" Iida said enthusiastically.

"Hehehe. I'll be waiting for it! Though you'll fail for sure." I replied.

"Ah! Youth~" Midnight said from the door.

"Is the class already over?" Aizawa-sensei asked.

"Yeah. It's time for Modern Hero Art History." She said.

"That's that then. Submit the names by day's end." Aizawa-sensei said, leaving the room as the next class began.
