Rebirth of humanity savior

The human race did live on top of the food chain for a long time. Their intelligence gave them the power to reign over the blue planet although having weak bodies, but their greed will be their end. This is a story about Ben Lupus, who goes back in time. Trying to change the fate of humanity, he will climb up the ranks of the food chain. PS: This is my first webnovel so please be gentle! As I am a European, I will naturally name the character as Europeans do, so first comes the forename, and second comes the family name. I am very thankful for each constructive criticism and I will try to improve my novel. I don't have the copyright of the picture, if you own it please report and I will take it down. New Info: {I have some personal issue…so there won't be new chapter for now.} New chapter are made, but will only be released after finishing the first volume to avoid mistakes. Hope you will be ready for a mass-release. How about releasing everything for new year?

Ben took a flight to Boston Logan International Airport.

Arriving there, he followed Google maps to find the address of Daniel Düsenvor.

Ben had sent an email before coming and had asked for a talk.

After ringing at the door, Ben waited for at least a couple of minutes.

Ben hadn't anything else to do, so he patiently waited.

The person who opened the door was a thin and proper man with glasses and parted hair in a suit. A small, brown beard on his chin and his eyes are some brown colour.

„Hello, young man. What can I do for you?" The man said friendly.

„Mister Düsenvor, my name is Ben Lupus. I have contacted you before to have a little talk with you this evening. I hope I didn't disturb you with something." Ben said with a politliness that he would only use it to obtain something.

„Oh. I didn't expect you to be so young. With how sophisticated the email was, I expected you would be in your 30th. Ah… And no you didn't disturb. Come in."

„Thank you. Mister Düsenvor."

„Oh no. Please, call me Daniel. Do you want a green tee?"

„I would love to, Daniel. You naturally can call me Ben."

After having prepared the tea, they both sat on the sofa.

„So, Daniel. I wasn't very clear about why I did come!"

„Indeed. So what is this all about?"

„I am part of a company, which plans to recruit you."

„Recruit me. Why is that so? And which company?"

„Firstly, having a doctorate in Engineering and in Biologie would make you quiet popular. My company is named Mirai Research, it is still only a small and unknown company, but I believe it has great potential."

„So what? I already have a good job. Why should I even consider your company?"

This would be a turning point in this conversation. Ben knew that Daniel had been often described as crazy due to his believe that creating a system was possible.

It may be too early that Daniel already is fanatical about the idea, but Ben planned to implant this idea now.

„We plan to research on creating a system, which will be programmed inside the brain non-immersively. The thought was to give the user more control about himself.

For example choose directly what he wants to have as long-term memory.

We also thought about making a rough IQ-scanner programm.

The project is still uncertain what exactly would be the goal, but we know that this could be the next development of humanity. The best of all this is that you could lead this project without having to take the financial burden. What do you think?"

„Excuse me, Ben. But aren't you delusional? Even if it was possible, we are tenth of years too early to even try to make something resembling that idea.

The brain is still full of mysteries and we don't have the machines to temper the brain non-immersive. I didn't even talk about the ethical aspect of such a system." Daniel said with an irritating expression.

„I see. I personally think we could start making concepts and build prototypes in a few years. Thanks to Neurolink, we already have a good understanding of the brain and we only need to develop a machine, which can non-immersively download the programm. It is sad that you don't even have the ambition to try it. If the project was successful, the Nobel Prize for Engineers or Nobel Prize in technology could be won by you. I mean compared to the VR-headsets and the self-driven cars, nobody would expect that you improved the use of the brain so early, right."

As Daniel didn't say a word, Ben stood up.

„Thank you for your time and Tee. I left my card on the table. If you change your opinion and want to take the job, call me anytime. I will leave. Have a nice day."

It may have appeared to be rude, but Daniel wasn't present. His brain worked.

Trying to think about the idea. Soon, he walked to his working room and surfed on the web.

Leaving the house, Ben went to a Subway.

Ben had always been someone to eat a lot. But with the increase in muscles and Vitality, he had to eat every 2-3 hours at least a big snack.

Naturally, every adventurer had to fight with this little problem.

This problem was later resolved with synthetic food, which had a lot of nutrient and energy with zero roughage. Although roughage was known for its healthy aspect, Ben didn't want to lose fat and even less to go to the toilet every few hours.

With his higher consumption of food, toilet time increased enormously.

´I don't plan to fly back today. There is not really anything to do at home. What I need is Daniel. I need him with motivation and a good concept… and also a plan.

It shouldn't be my fault that he didn't openly give the plans of the system. I was at the frontline. What should I care about how the system was downloaded or made? At least I knew how to use it. With the complexity being so high I will need a lot more scientists.

But I know nobody. As long as Daniel comes to me, everything should work.

I mean a genius is still a genius even if the timeline changed a bit. I will stay till tomorrow.

Should I even think about threatening him? I mean would it be counterproductive and still lead to an earlier system or would I end up with no result.

Hopefully he will come on his own. I still can revisit him and promise him more money.

I think I read that about 57% of people would do something for money, 78% would do it through fear and threat and 94% would do it for the homeland.

Or at least something like that!

Should I tell him that I come from the future and saw the end of humanity? No. Never.

In the worst case, I will just find another scientist and ingenieur, which will try to make my idea. Doesn't sound that bad? Oh…

Today is the 27th. Emma should be back at the University. I should call her.´

The call connected to his sister.

„Hey, you called my cell."

„I know."

„I told you to call my landline. My cell phone bill's astronomical."

„But a conversation with me: priceless." Ben said with a smile creeping up.

„What do you want?"

„Why so cold? Just wanted to know how you feel? You are back at the University, right?"

„Yeah. Why are you again in America? Did you already take vacation?"

„Yeah, quite funny. My company is looking for a few scientists, so I voluntarily went to America to do it."

„What is the name of your company?"

„Mirai Research! Mirai means future in Japan."

After a bit of smalltalk, Ben was confirmed of their well-being. He lied about what he was doing, but he mixed some truth in his phrases, which made the phrases feel less like a lie.

I was already late. Ben went to a hotel and checked in.

—-

The next day, Daniel called him. Inviting him to come again to discuss the project.

Ben was happy to be given a chance.

When he was brought to the same room as yesterday, Ben realised what a mess the room was in.

On the table were documents, calculators, pens and other things.

Inspecting Daniel, he saw dark under-eye circles.

It seemed like Daniel was suffering under sleep deprivation.

„So, Ben. I want to talk to you about the system. Although I don't believe that it will be able to work any time soon, I will consider working on it. I was just curious why exactly a small German company wants me?"

„You catched my attention after reading your two doctoral theses."

„What did you like about them?"

Suddenly, Ben stiffened. Ben knew that Daniel had two doctor titles. One in Ingenieur and the other in neurology. So, it was a good idea to use them as an argument.

But now that he was asked about them, he cursed at himself.

„I meant that my superior casted an eye on you. I am only hired to see if you are interested in joining us?" Ben said.

Daniel directly changed the way to speak.

„Ah. Yeah. I should have known about it. So, can I ask how much I would be payed and how many employees I would have?"

„Let me ask you back! How much do you want to be payed and how many employe do you wanna have?" Ben tried to sound enticing.

„A million per month and a million employees." Ben had already planned to accept any demand, so just as he wanted to accept he was shocked by the amount.

Turning slightly pale at hearing the number, Ben stayed silent to think about it.

´Just as I was thinking it would be easy. It may not be a bad price for having a system early on, but won't I make a loss from this exchange. Should I threaten him? I thought that I had enough money, but he is a lot greedier...´

„I was just joking. Don't take everything so seriously. I don't know where the threshold is, so why don't you give me the amount."

„You taking the lead in such an important project need to be well-paid. We imagined about 200.000 per year. This should be a lot better than your old job, right?

At this moment, there are no employees for this project. You would have the chance to make your own team. Every acceptable amount of employees will be permitted. As the salary for the employee, it should be around 100.000 per year.

What do you think about it?"

„Sorry, but building my own team is a bit cumbersome. I will…"

„Excuse me, I meant 250.000 per year. This should place you directly in the top-3 of highest salary."

Feeling a bit numb from the amount of money proposed, Daniel shut up for a moment. The money wasn't the problem. He liked his peaceful life.

Making your own team and working on such a big project was a big responsibility with a lot of pressure. Seeing how worried Ben looked, he couldn't decline.

If he declined and the boy increased the salary any more, he would have a heart attack.

„Then I will have to accept. How will the working hours be?"

„I would say that you can decide that yourself, but with the amount of money your team should at least work 50 hours per week. Would this be ok?"

Having successfully persuaded Daniel Düsenvor, Ben called his company.

Informing them and ordering them to make a contract. He then flew happily back home.

Daniel Düsenvor planned on looking for a team in the circle of his colleagues.

He would only fly to Germany after selling his house and after having created a small team.

A very long chapter. Usually my chapter contain around 800-1200 words, maybe I will split this chapter into two. Any opinion or comments?
