Beginning of New Adventure

With his freshly acquired equipment securely packed, Amukelo set his sights on new horizons as he exited the gates of Thandor. This was a new beginning, and as he looked ahead to the vast, sprawling lands before him, he felt a pulse of excitement.

Hours into his journey, navigating through the dense forest and steep hills, Amukelo's keen senses detected a subtle disturbance. The rustling of leaves that wasn't quite in tune with the wind, the faintest crunch of a footfall. He wasn't alone.

Instantly on alert, he pivoted swiftly, unsheathing his sword in a fluid motion. "Show yourself!" he commanded, his voice echoing through the trees, his eyes scanning the surrounding foliage.

From the shadows emerged Eliss, dressed in her finely crafted leather armor which blended elegantly with the golden hues of the forest. Her staff was in her hand, but her face bore no aggression — only determination.

"I thought I might catch up to you," she said softly, her posture unflinching under his intense gaze.

"What are you doing here? It's dangerous," Amukelo snapped, the edge in his voice sharper than his blade. "Your parents will be worried sick!"

"I left them a letter," she replied calmly, "I explained everything. I'm not a child, Amukelo, and I can't be caged by their fears or mine."

He exhaled sharply, torn between his instincts. "You don't understand the world out here," he warned, "It's unforgiving."

"I understand, but with you... I believe I can overcome all challenges," she insisted, with a spark of determination and saddens in her eyes. "I want to prove that I can be of help."

Finally, Amukelo's stance softened as he sighed deeply. "We are already leagues from Thandor," he conceded, "it would be more dangerous to send you back alone now."

A radiant smile broke through Eliss' determined façade. "Thank you," she whispered, her gratitude sincere and deep.

"But," Amukelo raised a finger sternly, "you must promise to follow my lead, and be prepared for the hardships ahead. No turning back."

"I promise," she nodded fiercely, the weight of her words heavy but sure.

. . .

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, Amukelo efficiently set about pitching his tent. His hands moved with practiced ease, securing the ropes and adjusting the canvas. Beside him, Eliss watched with keen interest, her staff leaning against her shoulder.

Breaking the comfortable silence between them, Amukelo turned to her, arching an eyebrow. "Did you bring your own tent?" he asked, his tone suggesting he already knew the answer.

A soft blush crept onto Eliss' cheeks, and she shook her head almost imperceptibly. "Well..." she admitted, a small, embarrassed smile tugging at her lips.

Amukelo chuckled softly, and with a swift, affectionate motion, he lightly tapped her forehead with his open hand. "You really didn't think this through, did you?" he teased, his eyes warm despite his teasing tone.

Eliss let out a playful huff, her embarrassment easing under his light-hearted touch. "I guess not," she replied, her voice tender and sheepish.

With a resigned but caring sigh, Amukelo gestured towards the nearly set-up tent. "You can share mine," he offered, his voice gentle but firm. "But remember , on the road, we must be prepared for everything, and you forget about the most basic thing."

Her eyes, now twinkling like the first stars of the evening. "Th ~ Thanks" she whispered gratefully.

As night settled around them, and the campfire flickered and danced, they sat together under the vast, open sky—two companions, chatting a bit before sleep.

. . .

Inside the tent, the air was cool and still, filled only with the soft rustle of their bedrolls and the comforting scent of the outdoors. They lay on opposite sides of the tent, separated by their belongings neatly arranged in the middle. It was a respectful and comfortable distance, but the emotional space felt vast in the quiet of the night.

As Eliss settled under her blanket, she tried to calm her racing heart, excited and nervous about her first night on the road.

However, her attention was quickly drawn to Amukelo. Though he lay still, she could sense a tension in him, an invisible shroud of unrest. His breathing was shallow and uneven, indicating that sleep was eluding him, too.

Memories of their conversation earlier came back to her — his confession about the difficulty he had sleeping, haunted by the actions he had been forced to take in his past. She could feel the weight of those memories in the air, heavy and suffocating.

With gentle determination, Eliss carefully shifted her body, quietly moving closer to Amukelo. She stopped just before their belongings that separated them, close enough that he could sense her presence but not so close as to invade his personal space. She whispered softly, her voice imbued with sincerity, "You're okay now."

As if in response to her warmth and proximity, Amukelo's tense body slowly began to relax. His breathing gradually deepened, becoming more rhythmic and steady. The nightmares that had been clawing at the edges of his mind seemed to recede, replaced by the comforting knowledge that he was not alone—that Eliss was there with him.

Lulled by this newfound sense of security and companionship, they both drifted into a peaceful, restful sleep under the same protective canvas, drawing solace from each other's presence as the night wore on.
