Magically Bound

"Marry me." Alaric crosses his legs and slides the thick stack of papers towards me before raising his cup to his lips, glancing at me as he takes a sip of his tea from the glass. "Excuse me, your grace?" I place the cup in my hand down on the small coffee table. "Lady Amelia Delgado, marry me." There was no smile or even smirk on the dukes face. Only indifference and business. "This would work out perfectly for the both of us." He said nonchalantly. "If we get married, on paper at least, the nagging of society will stop, and we can move on to better things. I'll even teach you how to wield that magic of yours." He said that last part with a smirk. I told no one about my magic and I made sure to practice it in a secluded area. How does he know about it? "How-" "Do we have a deal?" He cut me off and slid the papers closer while making direct eye contact. "We can figure out the rest later." He finally adds before looking at me with a charming smile. I couldn't understand anything going through his head. There didn't seem to be any malicious intent, and he never said he would tell anyone about the making. What do I do now? The duke sat calmly on the couch across from me waiting patiently. "It seems we will have to figure out the rest later, your grace." I agreed. I don't know why but I did. Maybe it was the idea of getting formal magic training from the best in the nation. However, there was a lot I should have asked before I sign that paper in front of me, because after that my days of tea, books, and petty gossip were no more. They days of endless mind games, and fights with sugar coated words were behind me, and the brutal physical and mental training in front of me was way worse.
