The power of a high ranked mage

'I hope that he's just passing by'

The village head sighed inwardly while praying in his heart.

"No need to feel fluttered. I was just passing by when I sensed the presence of humans in this…desolated place and decided to check it out" the old man said to the village head but his voice could not hide his arrogance and superiority like he was talking to a subordinate.

The village head gritted his teeth at the arrogant tone of the unwanted visitor but tried his best to hide his dissatisfaction as he did not want to show anything that might provoke this person.

By now, most of the villagers had gathered around this place and they all could not help but get shocked by the dazzling hover car and the arrogant old man but none of them said anything since their village head was keeping quiet, it was obvious that the stranger was stronger than him so they all silently agreed that it was better not to anger this person.

The old man likewise, stared at all of them in silence but no one knew that he was laughing at all of them in his mind.

'Hehe, my acting skill is still top-notch even after so many years. Not everyone is present so they shouldn't notice'

"Hmm, there's nothing to see here I guess. I'll just be on my way" The old man suddenly said and turned around to face his hover car.

The villagers all breathed out in relief when they saw him about to leave, his mere presence had filled them with so much pressure that they felt suffocated. The same was true for the village head. All the years he had spent in this village, not many passersby had stumbled upon them but none of them were as arrogant and caused them so much pressure as this person.

'Good thing he truly was just pressing by' The village head sighed in his thought.

He had been worried that this person was here with ulterior motives because while most of the villagers might not know, he was sure that some of them must have heard about the evil deeds of some wicked mages and devilish mage organizations such as kidnapping people for inhumane purposes.

"Hmm?"

The old man suddenly stopped walking towards his hover car and looked over his shoulder, his eyes displayed surprise as they zoomed in on Alex's figure who was standing beside his mother.

Not just the village head, but all the villagers showed worried expressions at the old man's sudden action. Especially those standing close to Alex and his mother, they all felt their hearts jump from their chest to their throat.

Before they could understand why, the old man suddenly disappeared from their sight and what was left was only an afterimage of the old man. It was not that he actually disappeared but his movement speed was just too fast for them that it looked like he had disappeared.

'Shit!' the village head cured inwardly as he began to look around for signs of the old man. His mind was already imagining numerous devilish things that the old man might be up to but he suddenly froze when he finally spotted the old man.

"Fvck!!"

The village head cursed out loud and instantly took out his wand and rushed out as a gust of wind started to blow around him.

The villagers were still in shock at the old man's sudden disappearance and only reacted due to the village head's outburst but the next instance, an aged voice that they recognized as the voice of the old man suddenly rang out.

"Noisy"

The voice scoffed and the villagers suddenly saw the village head freeze in place and the wind swirling around him disappear into thin air, they saw the village head try to struggle but could not break free and was instead raised into the air.

Gasp!!

The villagers gasped in shock at this. They already knew that the newcomer was a mage as well and was probably stronger than the village head but they did not expect the gap in their strength to be so huge that the strange old man would easily restrain the village head with just his pressure.

This was the power of a high-ranked mage!

Not only were they shocked and scared, but they were also amazed and awestruck by the display of strength.

"Get away from him you vile bastard!" The village head, who was being bound in the air by an invisible force, cursed out in fury, waking the villagers from their daze.

They all looked in the direction that the village head was cursing at and finally realized why the village head had disregarded caution and attacked recklessly, even the people in the area had not realized when the old man who was currently standing beside Alex and his mother had appeared.

Agnes hurriedly tried to shield Alex from the strange old man the instant she realized that he was standing right next to his son, she had not seen him earlier just like the other villagers who were standing close to them.

But her eyes suddenly widened as she felt her body being held in place and unable to move. Without being told, she knew it was the old man's doing since he had done the same thing to the village head.

"You all should calm down, I'm not going to do anything to him" the old man suddenly said in a strong tone that sounded like a command as his eyes glared at Alex's mother.

"Stay away from my son!!" She hissed in response while still trying to force herself to move but was proving to be impossible.

"If you aren't going to do anything, then why are you restraining us? Stay away from him!" The village head voiced out from the sky as well.

The villagers also began to murmur but none of them dared to speak to the old man directly like Agnes and the village head did; Marcos appeared to be absent.

"Sigh, if I wanted to do something to him, I could simply take him away. Do you think any of you will be able to stop me?" The old man scoffed and suddenly released his control over the two.
