Storage device

Still, she attended to both of them honorably. After all, they were now students of the academy and could be regarded as mages.

Mages were not people whom ordinary people could disrespect as even a weak magic apprentice-ranked mage could easily wipe out a small team of ordinary humans.

The woman handed a magic storage device that was in the form of a small disc to both of them.

"This is a level one storage device prepared by the academy for all new students. It contains all the necessities of the student and the student can also use it to carry their notes and materials to class"

She had said in a respectful tone to the two of them when she handed the small discs to them.

Alex and Vee bowed in return to show their respect to her as they received their storage devices, she was, after all, an elder to them, and seeing her being so respectful did not settle down well with them.

They were not like other kids who immediately started to take advantage of their magic students and began to act rude and arrogant to the ordinary people working in the registration building.

The two of them left the building and were currently standing outside, staring at the huge academy ground, the two of them did not know where to go or what to do next.

"We should go check on our lodge in the academy first and set up our things, the information or route should be inside this storage device," Vee said to Alex while waving the small disc In his hand.

"Umm, how do I use this?" Alex asked with a strange expression on his face while staring at the magic storage device. He had never used a storage device before and had no idea how to open it.

" Oh, you probably have never used one before. After all, they are pretty expensive even if it's a level one" Vee said with a look of realization on his face.

"How much do you think this would cost?" Alex asked after hearing Vee's statement and stared at the storage device with a dubious gaze.

"I think it should be around five hundred gold coins, might be more," Vee said after a moment of thinking.

Alex's eyes opened wide upon hearing this and he almost gasped in shock.

"So expensive? And there are thousands of students who get one of these every year?" Alex exclaimed, the wealth of the academy had once again stunned him.

"Hmm, and that's why you should keep yours safe. If you lose it, then you'll have to buy one yourself or just live without a storage device. After all, it's just a level one magic storage device so anyone can easily access it aside from the owner" Vee licked his lips and said, his eyes screaming that he might steal other students' storage devices and sell them off.

"Anyway, using it is simple. Just want to see inside and part of your consciousness will get transferred inside, and if you want to take something outside, just say 'out' in your mind" Vee instructed.

Alex nodded and followed Vee's instruction, he held the storage device in his hand and thought of entering inside.

Part of his consciousness instantly got pulled into the storage device and he could finally see inside, Alex was shocked to see that the small disc he was holding had a space of one and a half meters inside of it.

His sight was divided into two POVs, which made him able to still see Vee who was standing next to him, the storage device in his hand, as well as his surroundings while at the same time seeing inside the storage device.

Inside the storage device were three sets of uniforms that were folded neatly on one side, two pairs of black shoes, a short magic wand, his student card, and a row of books.

Alex's eyes scanned the books and he discovered that most of them were notebooks, there was a student manual, a map, and a textbook as well.

Alex focused his sight on the map and thought.

'Out'

From his point of view outside, Alex saw the map that was inside the storage device suddenly appear above the storage device and remain floating just a few centimeters above it.

Alex decided to try something.

'In'

'Go back'

'Return'

'Inside'

Alex said a bunch of words in an attempt to keep the map back inside the storage device but none of what he was saying seemed to work, he guessed that he was doing something wrong.

'Am I supposed to say it out loud this time?' Alex thought and shook his head the next moment. He decided to just ask Vee since the latter knew more about storage devices than he did.

Alex turned to look at Vee who already brought out his map and was currently scanning through it, trying to read the directions on it.

"Umm, Vee. How do I keep things back inside?" Alex called out, causing Vee to turn from his map for a brief moment after seeing Alex's map floating above his storage device.

"Just touch it with your storage device and say 'keep', it will return inside" Vee explained before turning back to his map.

Alex made an "oh" sound and decided to try out what he had been told.

Grabbing the map with his free hand, Alex pressed it on the storage device and said in his thoughts.

'Keep'

The map immediately disappeared like it was never there and thanks to his split vision, Alex saw it appear inside his storage device.

"Maybe it's because this storage device is only level one that it needs to make contact with things first before keeping it?" Alex thought to himself.

Since he had already already figured out how the storage device worked, he took out his map to take a look as well.

'Out'

Alex called inwardly and the map appeared above the small disc, he took it and unfolded it.

Alex was left speechless by what he saw after opening the map.

'How could this be called a map? It's literally the layout of the whole academy!' Alex exclaimed inwardly.

The so-called map was almost like a painting of an entire district from a high altitude and each building and street was cleanly labeled to avoid getting lost. For example, Alex easily spotted the classrooms, lodges, halls, cafeterias, teachers' residences, and different facilities.
