RAISING A PROTAGONIST

"Goodness, being the strongest is not as I expected at all. Everything and everyone are too weak and terrified. "My students are scared of me as well?" "Even powerful magic beasts die before I touch them!" "Hmm? Oh, he has the protagonist star but he is too hidden and might not shine. Hehehe, I'll groom this one and make him into the strongest too" Realizing that being the strongest comes with not only power and authority but extremely loneliness and unbearable boredom, vee fakes his death and travel to a far away land to live as a commoner. But just a few years after his retirement, his planet was invaded by a strong force that seek to conquer their home. But vee decides not to act this time and rather watch from the sideline while secretly helping someone else to become the main character in the darkest moment of their planet.

Fifty points for the protagonist

"You there, student Vee, mind trying to tell us what true magic is?" Bree voiced out with her sight staring right at Vee, even Gustavo could tell who she was calling out to despite them having the same name.

Vee almost choked on his saliva when he saw how serious Bree's glare on him was, other students were also staring at him as well. They were probably wondering how the instructor knew his name and why she had picked him.

"Could he be her child or little brother?"

Vee heard a student whisper to another from the side and he almost stumbled.

'What the heck! I don't want to get in the spotlight at all, what's this woman pestering me for?!' Vee grumbled inwardly but his face did not show any trace of his dissatisfaction instead, he had an embarrassed look on his face as he slowly stood up and said with uncertainty.

"Umm…being able to become a mage?"

"Pfft!"

"How dumb and embarrassing, who's this kid?"

" Even I would be too embarrassed to say such obvious words, no way is he related to this beautiful instructor"

Some students laughed and whispered amongst themselves after hearing Vee's answer, even Alex and the others could not help but giggle as well.

Bree had a strange expression on her face, unsure of how to react to Vee's answer.

'Is he faking it or is he really ignorant?'

She asked herself but still was not sure which one it was, she could only continue the class after telling Vee to sit.

"So not one of you has any idea? I'll give fifty points to whoever can get a correct answer or a close enough answer to this question. This point will be added to your overall score for the ranking" Bree said.

The whole class immediately went into an uproar upon the sudden declaration. It was as if the students were injected with chicken blood and the spirit of shamelessness as they began to say every stupid thought that came to their minds but everything they said only made Bree shake her head.

They could all sigh in helplessness and defeat, they all felt terrible that they were unable to keep the fifty points that had been given to them for free.

Amidst all of this, Vee could be seen sitting silently with a mischievous smile on his face.

'Fifty free points? Isn't this a chance for a protagonist to outshine everyone and gain all the attention? This will also move everyone's focus away from me as well, I remember doing something like this back then as well' Vee chuckled inwardly as his eyes fell on Alex.

Alex, who was racking his brain to come up with a meaningful answer to the question, suddenly heard a voice in his head.

"The cosmos"

The words of the voice were brief and it disappeared immediately after it said just those two words. Alex looked up with a jolt and looked around him, that voice sounded painfully familiar and he recognized it because it was the same as that arrogant old man who had invaded his village.

But he did not spot anyone with similar features to the old man or who could have whispered those words to him.

'Could I be imagining it? The cosmos? What's that?'

Alex was conflicted with his thoughts. The words made a kind of sense that he could not understand but what if it was incorrect?

'Who cares? Everyone has been saying a lot of nonsense, so what if mine also turned out to be wrong? It's worth fifty points, my chances of getting on the ranking will be higher if it's correct!' Alex made up his mind after a brief debate and stood up.

" The cosmos!"

Alex called out but his voice was quickly drowned by other students who were also trying their luck; that did not prevent Bree from picking up what he had said.

She immediately raised one of her hands, gesturing for everyone to stop talking.

"You there, what did you say?" She said with one of her fingers pointing toward Alex.

Alex was still standing when he was suddenly pointed at, a feeling of nervousness suddenly rose inside of him.

"The…cosmos?"

He repeated in a weak voice that could barely be considered audible.

Bree stared at the white-haired kid who was fidgeting for a few seconds before looking at Vee beside him, these two white heads were really a weird bunch to her.

"You can sit, 50 points for you for getting close," Bree said as she pulled her gaze away from the two, her words caused the other students to gasp in disbelief.

Not that Alex had managed to guess the answer but how he had easily gotten free points that would increase his chances of entering the ranking.

'I really got it!'

Alex exclaimed inwardly as he took his seat. He was also shocked that his answer happened to be correct.

"Way to go, Alex, now you are already ahead of us in the ranking. Gosh, I'm so jealous!" Helen whispered from the side, a helpless look could be seen on her face.

Gustavo, as well as students sitting close also commented on Alex getting free 50 points.

Vee only watched from the side, a calm expression planted on his face. Although he was sitting right next to Alex, he appeared to be almost invisible to the others since all their focus was on Alex.

'Now that's how a protagonist should be. Being in the spotlight and gaining all the attention' Vee thought to himself, satisfied with his work.

"Hmm?" Vee suddenly raised an eyebrow in confusion and looked to the side, specifically at the next set of seats where the green-haired kid named Milan was sitting alongside Torie and two other students.

He could not possibly have missed the hostility that was coming from the kid called Milan. Milan himself might be unaware that his hostility had already materialized since he was a kid and instructor Bree might not sense it since she was only a mage king but Vee could clearly sense it, the hostility was so strong that it could easily become killing intent if Milan was given a little push.

This baffled Vee, he could not understand why Milan would hold so much hostility towards Alex. After all, they were all kids and he did not recall Alex doing anything worth such hostility from Milan.

'Sigh! I'll just let them resolve it themselves. Protagonists are supposed to deal with such things themselves, right? He can use this kid as a stepping stone to rise' Vee thought with a conniving grin on his face.
