Proxima - Judgment of the Endless

In the dimly lit corners of the world, where shadows dance with flickering candlelight, a man sits alone, burdened by the weight of his experiences. He has walked the knife's edge between good and evil, his footsteps echoing through the annals of time. A millennia wandering in the precipice between reality and the untold horrors that lie beyond the boundaries of mortal comprehension. They call him the Grey Wanderer, for he has witnessed both the best and worst of humanity. His eyes have gazed upon breath taking beauty, yet also stared into the abyss. With every tale he shares, the line between hero and villain blurs, for he understands that the path to darkness begins with a single step, and even the noblest souls may falter. This is a story, no, a tale of Darius 'Morpheus' Nightshade.

Chapter 5: A look at the bigger picture

Let me tell you a story.

Eons ago before time and life itself a being existed. The being held no shape, form or structure. He existed everywhere and nowhere. He was the beginning and the end, the Past Present And Future. He was existence itself.

No one knew for how long the being had 'lived', existed, where it came from and why it was here.

Eons passed of ceaseless existence until one 'day' the being had a 'dream', a 'thought'. A question rang in its 'mind' over and over again. An urge so strong even it could not overcome. Suddenly it happened.

'Why don't I make beings of a similar existence to me.'

Existence itself felt alone, empty and with no purpose. It longed to be with something more like itself so it set out to create life. However, what it would call life was in reality another abstract being which held no form or shape.

No breathe. No soul. No heart. No mind. Existence was upset, maybe it was destined to be alone. Maybe it was not meant to have others like it but Existence didn't give up.

It went back to the newly molded being and gave it his essence. The metaphorically husk of a being absorbed the essence, it grew and evolved, and finally it took on a form. The new being was like nothing Existence had ever 'seen' before.

Obviously since it was the only thing it ever 'saw', *ehem*... anyway back to story.

The moment Existence brought his creation to life he became The Creator, a title it saw fit his talent. The Creator had a new role, make more in his image and likeliness. To expand and create. That was The Creator's self imposed mission.

The new creation was known as Life, the embodiment of life itself. Life inherited its creator's will to create and create it did. From Life reality itself came to be.

The once desolate plain in which The Creator dwelled in became full of life. Stars of all sizes and magnitude came to be, galaxies and universes burst forth.

Creatures of unknown origins made their appearance on the various planets scattered around the universes. Life was happy with how things developed, but it felt something was missing. There was no order, no harmony.

That is when The Creator decided that Life needed some assistance in its ongoing project. He was bemused by what his creation was doing, something that had not come across his 'mind'.

Two new being were created, Judgment and Harmony.

The two new creations knew what had to be done the moment they came into existence. Harmony spread her breath over reality, bringing peace and harmony to the creations of Life. Judgement was to witness and pass judgment onto those creations.

A Trinity had been born, Life, Harmony and Judgement.

Each inheriting a key component of their father.

Life inherited his Omnipotence, gaining the ability to give life to all it chose and take it away. Life would traverse the cosmos and affect all that came in contact with it, birthing new life everywhere. It was a power so vast, so infinite, that it is nearly impossible to comprehend.

With omnipotence, Life possessed the ability to manipulate matter, energy, and time itself, bending the universe to their will. It could create and destroy worlds, alter the laws of physics, and even change the past, present, and future.

Time, space, and reality were mere playthings to a being such as Life.

Judgment inherited his father's Omniscience, becoming an all-knowing being. Nothing could be hidden from his eyes. He was free of any falsehood, his truth was the truth. It was a power that granted Judgment the ability to know all things.

With omniscience, he could see the past, present, and future with perfect clarity, as well as comprehend the innermost workings of every creature, object, and phenomenon in the universe.

Judgment possessed knowledge that encompassed all languages, sciences, arts, and philosophies, all at once.

Every puzzle, every mystery, and every secret became clear, for omniscience reveals the hidden patterns and connections that weave together the fabric of reality.

Harmony became Omnipresent, encompassing everything in existence. She had the ability to be everywhere and nowhere at once, simultaneously existing in every point in time and space.

With omnipresence, Harmony was no longer bound by the constraints of the physical world. She could be within the particles of an atom and within the vastness of the universe, feeling the pulse of a heartbeat and the ebb and flow of the stars, all at the same time.

Harmony transcended the concept of physical boundaries, for in her essence, the universe was her, and she was the universe.

Eons passed and reality had blossomed into something beautiful, the Father, the son and the daughters were proud of their work.

However chaos was soon to ensure. New beings and concepts were birthed into existence. From Life came Creation and Destruction, Chaos, Death and Time.

From Judgement Sin, Wrath, Hate, Disorder, Joy and Peace were born. They plunged various worlds into ruin and darkness.

From Harmony came Love, War, Revenge and Retribution. These new beings spread out through reality, some bringing prosperity to their worlds and some bringing disaster.

It became Judgment's job to set the worlds right by doing what he did best, judging.

The fault did not lie with the new born Concepts as they had no choice in what they were, they simply existed for the roles they were assigned. So what was Judgement to judge if not the Concepts?

He settled on bestowing judgement on those that indulged in sinful acts. Murderers, rapists, dark magicians, heralds of chaos, demons and other sinful beings were all under the watchful eye of Judgement.

However, thousands of years into his quest he gained enlightenment. These mortals were far beneath him to put so much of his effort into correcting them. No matter what world or universe he was in, Sin never seemed to disappear.

There was always some getting killed, magicians trying to summon demons and demonic beings making bargains with mortals. It was a never ending cycle of hatred, chaos and death.

Judgment decided he had enough, he was tired. Some of these worlds were simply not worth saving. With a heavy heart he abandoned his role and began wondering about, jumping from one reality to another. He became The Wanderer, a title he took with pride.

Thousands of years passed by and it came a time when The Wanderer could not do any more wondering. Mortals had completely drained his will to live, he wanted to escape the burden that was laid upon him.

Of his siblings, he had the most taxing responsibility of them all, having to deal with the actions of mankind and make an appropriate judgement.

Sometimes he wished he didn't know everything, he wanted a life full of surprises, twists and turns but alas, Omniscience wasn't something you could simply turn off.

The wanderer decided to sleep, his dreams acting as the only comfort in this cod and harsh world. His mind simply could not take any more. With a heavy heart, he conjured up his bed, an accumulation of all his power solidified into the most comfortable bed in existence.

His slumber was long and peaceful, his dreams providing him with the much needed rest he required so very much. From his dreams a new being emerged, one that thrived in dreams, guarded the boundary between the waking world and the dreaming. This was Dream of the Endless, the personification of dreams, the wellspring of all dreams in the universe. He was a powerful and enigmatic being, with the ability to enter and shape dreams, as well as the power to affect reality.

At his birth, Dream constructed his realm from the various dreams of mortals which he called the Dreaming. In this realm dreams were reality and reality was a dream, anything was possible as long as you dreamt it.

Dream's took up the role of keeping the universe in balance in his creators steed. With the help of his 'children' Dream held reality in check, often going down to the Waking world to correct issues that should not exist.

He made three primary children, Lucien the Librarian, Mervyn the Janitor, and Abel the Gatekeeper

Lucien was in charge of the library of the Dreaming, a vast and endless collection of books that contained every story ever told or dreamed of. Her role was to keep these stories safe and organized, as well as advise Dream on matters of creativity and imagination.

Mervyn, the Janitor, was responsible for maintaining the Dreaming and keeping it tidy. He was often seen carrying a mop and a bucket, and is known for his sarcastic and grumpy demeanor.

Abel, the Gatekeeper, was responsible for guarding the gates of the Dreaming and controlling access to Dream's realm. His character was gentle in nature, often seen chatting with the people who come to visit Dream.

With the help of these 3, Dream fulfilled his task with diligence, awaiting the day his creator would awake from his slumber.

After, a millennia that day finally arrived, Judgement had woken up. With his awakening, the various cosmic beings scattered in all forms of reality shivered at his presence, some from excitement, fear, longing and others from happiness. Judgement had returned.

The day of reckoning, the day prophecied by the Fate and Destiny was near.

The day of Judgement was upon them.
