Dark wings, dark news

Doran returns to his desk with slumped shoulders.

He takes the quill and starts to write.

`This reminds me too much of Umbitch's punishments,` he grimaces at the memory of that hateful woman. `This assignment will serve me well in the future while hers was pure sadism.` Doran tries to remember what happened to the most hateful teacher from Hogwarts.

`If I remember correctly, she was sentenced to fifteen years in Azkaban for her crimes during the war`

The good news is that after Britain's Second Wizarding War, Death Eaters and sympathizers didn't get away with a slap on the wrist. Even families that ultimately switched sides and helped were punished, less severe punishments but punishments nonetheless.

For example the Malfoy family had to pay a fortune in reparations, Lucius was banned from the Ministry and sentenced to ten years in Azkaban. Narcissa and Draco received minor penalties, the Malfoy matriarch was never an active member of the Death Eaters, and Draco did not commit any serious crimes during his time as one.

"I'm done!"

Doran hands his homework to Maester Wulfric, he looks at it and nods.

"Well done Prince Doran, your lessons for today are over."

An assistant offered to accompany him to his room, but he decided to stay in the library for a while to watch his uncle's lessons. He realizes how hard it is for Lewyn to memorize all the Houses with its emblems and words.

Given how many there are, it's not surprising that a nine-year-old would struggle, Doran thinks of ways to help his uncle with his studies and comes up with an idea. A game similar to the one he already created.

He explains to Wulfric his idea and is congratulated for it, two assistants bring him paper and brushes to start creating the game.

The game, which he called Triplets, consists of putting together three types of cards (House emblem, words and name).

Doran knows from experiences he had with his godchildren that children learn more through games than by studying books.

They decide to separate the game into different decks of cards: one for each kingdom.

While they were finishing the House Fowler cards, an assistant called Wulfric, they have received an urgent letter from the Marches.

***

Dorna Nymeros Martell is an authoritative woman, her word is law in Dorne and very few dare disobey. That her own husband has gone against her orders pisses her off beyond belief, Arthur Uller will pay for his foolishness.

As she thinks of punishments for her idiotic husband, her old friend, Maester Wulfric, enters her solar.

His face is neutral but the force with which he has closed his lips shows his emotions.

`Not good news` thinks the Princess of Dorne.

The first thing that come to her mind are Obella and Trystanne. They both left for Starfall two days ago for the birth of her good son's brother's first child. Edric Dayne and his wife came to Sunspear when Doran and Mors were born, so Obella and her husband went to Starfall so as not to offend House Dayne.

"Are Obella and Trystanne alright?!"

"Eh?" Wulfric looks at her in confusion.

Dorna relaxes when she realizes that her daughter is not the subject of the bad news.

`But then who? Andrey? Jace? Grandmama Daenerys?`

She thinks of all her family members who are in dangerous places.

Andrey is in Norvos and Jace is in Bravos, but neither is carrying out dangerous missions although anything could happen.

Her grandmother is another option, Princess Daenerys is very old, men and women decades younger have died of old age.

"Did something happen to Andrey or Jace? Is my grandmother well?"

The master does not respond and moves uncomfortably.

"Speak man!"

"It's Prince Arthur, your grace."

Dorna feels her insides turn to ice, her body loses its strength and she collapses into her chair.

"Arthur?" Her voice comes out weak.

"Prince Arthur was attacked-"

***Days before in the Marches***

Arthur Uller has traveled hundreds of miles on horseback, he is used to the continuous rubbing of the saddle, the tumbling, the discomfort of maintaining the same posture for hours... But he still hates the experience.

`As a Knight I am expected to be a skilled rider but I would rather walk than ride these beasts.` When Arthur was a child he witnessed a raging horse kick a man's skull open. The memory of the blood and the whitish stuff still turns his stomach.

`But as prince consort I would be a laughing stock if I walked instead of riding`

Even in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by veteran soldiers, the prince has to behave in a certain way so as not to embarrass House Martell.

"Hold!" The captain raises his hand and everyone stops.

"What's going on Captain Luca?" Arthur spurs his horse to get to the captain's side.

"There," he points to the distant hills half a kilometer away. The prince narrows his eyes but sees nothing. Other men started whispering, they didn't notice anything strange either.

"Are you sure you saw something?"

"Maybe it's just nerves."

"Shut up! And get ready." The captain yells at the soldiers in a harsh voice, "Protect the prince."

The soldiers look at each other and then at the captain. They didn't see anything unusual but they still comply with his orders, the archers prepare their bows and a group surrounds the prince.

They continue advancing and after two hundred meters the other soldiers see what the captain saw.

"Stormlanders!"

In the hills is a group of fifty Stormlands soldiers, all dressed in armor with Swann emblems.

"Hold!" The captain stops the convoy. "Jaime and Jon, come here." The two horsemen approach the captain.

"Go ahead and talk to the Stormlander leaders," several soldiers start to protest but Arthur holds up a hand and they are silenced. "Even those barbarians will not dare attack House Martell's guards. You must inform them of our presence, but do not no mention the prince's presence. Those barbarians might try to kidnap our prince to force Princess Dorna to agree to their demands."

They are handed banners bearing the House Martell symbol and the two riders spurred their horses.

The two horsemen approach the enemy soldiers and instead of being greeted with salt and bread they are greeted with arrows and swords.

Jaime and Jon are riddled with arrows as soon as they are within fifty meters of the enemies.

The other Dornishmen watched in disbelief as their comrades were slaughtered, the stormlanders didn't stop there, they charged towards the group of Dornishmen shouting war cries.
