Misty gave a little head shake. She uttered the following phrase: "I don't think it will be that simple."

"The Elite Four never move from where they are stationed. They are used to fending off monsters as a matter of course, but should something ever find a way to bypass their defences, the city will be obliterated. Because of this, it is only natural that they take their work fairly seriously."

"Great," Ash muttered under his breath. "So, I guess we'll have to go through Malebolge ourselves and get to whatever is at the bottom of Cerulean Cave before Team Rocket does," said Ash.

Misty cracked a grin but shook her head. "Even if it wasn't an attempt at suicide, there is still a problem with that... The members of the Elite Four will not allow anyone else into Malebolge. It's just not done. They put their lives on the line to protect the entrance, and they abide by the principle that nothing can leave or enter the compound... If we wanted to get inside, we would have to fight our way through them."

As he regarded the ceiling, Ash leaned back on the mattress, put his hands behind his head, and flopped back onto the bed. "I'm getting a better understanding of why no one has ever tried this before." He halted his actions and turned to look at Misty. "So, what is it that you think it is best that we do?"

Misty instructed the group, "Get past the Elite Four." "Also, if it were in any way feasible, I'd enjoy watching them battle Team Rocket."

Ash stated, "I thought we decided both of those were impossible," and he was correct.

"We did," said Misty. "Because of this, I don't really know what to do next. There isn't a single thing that comes to mind that would be of any use."

Both Ash and Misty entered a prolonged third silence together. Growlithe barked at the entrance while attentively listening for any signs of trouble, and Pikachu curled up on Ash's chest, where it was sufficiently comfortable to start dozing off. Ash went over what he had just learned in his head over and over again and examined every aspect in great detail, looking for potential answers. Pikachu made its way over to Ash's lap after he sat up and stretched after the sun had reached its lowest point in the sky, signalling the beginning of evening.

He then drew Misty's attention to the situation by stating, "I don't think there's any quick way to fix this." "But even if it took a little longer, there's probably some other approach that could be taken that would be successful."

Misty inquired, "What exactly are you considering?"

"The other Gyms," Ash referred to them. "Every major city has one of these to protect it from the wild Pokémon and bandits that lurk in the surrounding area. My grandfather claims that even though no two gyms are exactly the same, they all either answer to or at the very least listen to the Elite Four. I had the idea that you and I would go to each one and do everything we could to win the respect of the person in charge of each gym that we visited. It was our job to persuade each leader to provide us with some kind of recommendation that we could show the Elite Four in order to impress them to the point where they would let us into Malebolge."

Misty questioned her with, "Do you have any idea how difficult that would be?" "The people who run gyms are some of the toughest people you'll find anywhere. It won't be simple to win them over and get their support for what we're doing."

"Ash responded, "I am aware of this, but I really don't see what else we can do at this point." Additionally, even if we are unable to earn recommendations from each of the leaders, this would still be an excellent opportunity for us to travel throughout the region, gather information for the Pokedex, and hone our own Pokémon-training skills. And who's to say that while we're on our way, we won't find out some more information about Team Rocket and come up with a way to throw a spanner in their plans? No matter where we are, we can continue to make progress on that goal at any time."

Misty muttered, "Team Rocket is everywhere," as she contemplated the information that she had gained from Jennifer earlier. The man with orange hair leaned back on the bed for a moment and surveyed his surroundings before continuing. She stated, "I believe that to be the most viable option we have." "So, the general plan is going to be to go to every major city's gym, finish the Pokedex while we're at it, and hurt Team Rocket in any way we can while we're trying to get to the bottom of Cerulean Cave through the entrance at Indigo Plateau," said Ash. "We're going to try to get there through the entrance at Indigo Plateau."

Ash nodded. He responded by saying, "That has a nice ring to it." It's not going to be a quick or simple process, but if it works there won't be any negative consequences.

Misty gave a small smile before rising to her feet. "Well, now that we have a plan," she exclaimed, "let's get to work." "I need to get cleaned up, so I'm going to take a shower. The specifics can be worked out as we move along." She went into the toilet and then locked the door after she was finished.

Ash let out a sigh before laying back on the bed. Almost instantly, Pikachu hopped onto his chest, rolled into a yellow furry ball, and went to sleep. Growlithe remained as calm as ever as it sat guarding the entrance to the room while Ash chuckled and petted the young Pokémon.
