Chapter 11: Enter Combusken and the Stone Badge

Early in the morning, I would be back in the open area of the Woods like yesterday, training once again with Elekid, Taillow, and Torchic.

"Elekid, use Brick Break!"

Elekid jumps, lunging towards me. He slices the boards I had been holding, clean right down the middle of all of them at once.

I smile. "You did it, Elekid!"

Elekid jumps, and we high five. He then hops up onto my shoulder.

{Natalie} 'So, this is what you've been working on, Huh?' She smiles.

I look over at her. "Yeah, I figured that by learning Brick Break it helps give us a chance against Roxanne's rock types." I smile, back.

{Natalie} 'Good idea. Looks like you and all of your pokemon were in perfect sync. It was incredible.'

"Thank you!"

{Natalie} 'Are you ready for the gym battle?'

I smirk.

{Natalie} 'What?'

"I was born ready!" I give a bigger smirk.

She chuckles.

{Natalie} 'Sure you were..' She winks. 'Come on, Alex is waiting at the gym for us.'

I nod, returning Taillow and Torchic into their pokeball.

I follow Natalie to the gym.

We soon walk into the gym, seeing Alex next to a woman that had red eyes, brown hair which was tied up into pigtails with a red bow, she would be wearing pink leggings and a small pointed pink tie around her neck and also a white shirt with a purple school uniform dress and a pair of purple shoes.

The woman walks over, Alex follows.

{Alex} 'Roxanne, this is Brady.'

{Roxanne} 'Welcome, Brady, to the Rustboro City gym. Here, I specialize in rock type pokemon.'

{Alex} 'Good luck, Brady. She's a tough cookie.'

I nod, then walk onto the battlefield, heading to my side of it.

{Roxanne} 'We'll be using two pokemon each! Now, Geodude I choose you!' She sends out her Geodude.

I grab my pokédex.

{Pokédex} 'Geodude, the rock/ground type pokemon. Geodude slams against others in contests of hardness. The longer a Geodude lives, the more its edges are chipped and worn away, making it more rounded in appearance. However, this Pokémon's heart will remain hard, craggy, and rough always. When Geodude sleeps deeply, it buries itself halfway into the ground.'

"Hm..alright then.." I grab Torchic's pokeball. "Torchic, stand by for battle!" I send out Torchic.

{Torchic} 'Torrrchiicc,'

{Roxanne} 'A fire type against my rock types? Would you like to rethink that?'

"I believe in my pokémon, every one of them."

{Roxanne} 'Alright, you can make the first move then!'

"Torchic, use Ember!"

Torchic releases a blast of fire from its mouth, directly at Geodude.

{Roxanne} 'Geodude, dodge and use Mega Punch!'

Geodude avoids the attacks and moves forward, hitting Torchic with a mega punch attack. Torchic gets up.

{Roxanne} 'Geodude, Mega Punch once more!'

"Torchic, dodge!"

Torchic jumps, avoid the attack.

"Torchic, Ember quick!"

Torchic obeys, and its Ember attack connects with Geodude.

Geodude winces just a bit.

{Roxanne} 'Geodude, Rock Throw!

Rocks would rise right next to Geodude, the rocks would fire right at Torchic.

"Torchic!"

Torchic would suddenly start to glow white, as soon as it did, the rocks would get blasted back.

{Natalie} 'What's happening?' She asks Alex.

{Alex} 'Torchic's evolving.'

{Natalie} 'Woah..'

The white glow would fade, revealing a different pokemon.

I grab my pokédex. 'Combusken, the Young Fowl Pokémon. Combusken is the evolved form of Torchic. As a Fighting Pokémon, it has the ability to breath raging fire from its beak and to unleash high-powered kicks.'

"Combusken, woah." I smirk. "Looks like you've learned a new move..Combusken use Double Kick!"

{Combusken} 'Combusssskeen!' It jumps directly at Geodude, and kicks Geodude forcefully into the ground once, then kicks Geodude once again into the far wall behind Roxanne.

A referee runs up to Geodude.

{Ref} 'Geodude is unable to battle!'

{Roxanne} 'You did well Geodude, return and get a long rest.' She returns Geodude into its pokeball. She grabs a different pokeball. "Nosepass, I choose you!"

{Nosepass} 'Noooseeepaaaasss!'

"What's that pokemon?" I grab my pokédex again.

{Pokédex} 'Nosepass, the Compass Pokémon. Nosepass has a nose that functions as an electromagnet and determines location by moving its nose about.'

I put my pokédex away. "Sounds dangerous for Elekid..." I say in my head, being and looking nervous, too.

{Roxanne} 'Well, if you're not going to make a move, I will! Nosepass, Zap Cannon!'

Nosepass charges up a Zap Cannon, then unleashes it onto Combusken, hitting Combusken into a large rock. Combusken weakly gets up.

"Combusken, you still ok to fight?"

{Combusken} 'Combusken!'

"Great, now use Double Kick!"

Combusken takes one step forward then collapses.

{Ref} 'Combusken is unable to battle!'

I return Combusken into its pokeball. "Thank you, Combusken. You fought long and hard now take a nice long rest, you deserve it. Now, Elekid stand by for battle!"

Elekid jumps off my shoulder, and onto the battlefield, ready for an attack to be called.

{Roxanne} 'Nosepass, lets wrap this up! Use Rock Tomb!'

Rocks come up surrounding Elekid.

"Elekid, use Thunder Shock to blow the rocks away!"

Elekid obeys, blowing the rocks away.

{Roxanne} 'Use Rock Tomb, again!'

Rocks would once again, slide up from under the ground, squeezing Elekid with them.

"Elekid blow them away once again!"

Elekid unleashes a Thunder Shock, blowing the rocks away.

I get an idea, not calling a move, on purpose.

{Natalie} 'Why isn't Brady calling a move?'

{Alex} 'My guess he has something up his sleeve.'

{Roxanne} 'Alright..' She smirks. 'Nosepass use Rock Tomb!'

"Just what I wanted." I smirk. "Elekid jump forward and use that Rock Tomb to give you a boost!"

Elekid nods, jumping forward just as a rock slides up right out of the ground once again. The rock comes up right underneath Elekid.

"Now kick off that rock!"

Elekid kicks off of it, using the rock to boost him just as I wanted.

"Now, use Brick Break!"

Elekid strikes Nosepass right in its rocky head.

"Now finish it off and use Brick Break!"

Elekid spins around in midair, and strikes Nosepass with another Brick Break attack.

Elekid lands on its feet right in front of Nosepass.

{Natalie} 'Woah!'

{Alex} 'That was awesome!'

Nosepass gets back up.

{Roxanne} 'Good, now Nosepass use Zap Cannon!'

Nosepass charges up Zap Cannon once again with its nose, then unleashes the attack.

"Elekid, absorb it!"

Elekid stays still, taking the Zap Cannon and absorbing it.

"Now, lets wrap this up with Thunder Punch!"

Elekid jumps at Nosepass, punching it with electricity surround his fist.

Elekid lands behind the Nosepass.

Nosepass collapses onto the ground.

{Ref} 'Nosepass is unable to battle! Which means the victor of this match is Brady and his Elekid!'

Roxanne returns Nosepass to its pokeball.

{Roxanne} 'You battled well Nosepass, take a long rest.'

I walk up to Elekid and kneel.

Alex and Natalie run over to us.

{Natalie} 'You and Elekid were amazing!'

{Alex} 'Don't forget about Combusken!'

I smile.

{Roxanne} 'They're right, you were three were great! That was the most enjoyable battle I've had in a longtime!' She walks over with something in her hand.

{Roxanne} 'Here, this Stone Badge belongs to you, Brady.' She holds the badge out to me.

"Thank you, Roxanne." I take the badge.

Elekid hops on my shoulder.

I take my backpack off my shoulders and grab a case out of it. I open it, and place the Stone Badge in one spot of the case.

{Roxanne} 'The next gym should be in Dewford Town.'

{Alex} 'Well, I know one thing. I'm ready to catch myself some new pokemon!'

Natalie and I chuckle, too.

{Natalie} 'So are we, and I'm excited to see what the pokémon egg Brady has turns out to be.'

{Alex} 'Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what it is.'

I turn and walk out of the gym.

{Alex} 'Hey, wait up!' He and Natalie follow me out.

{Natalie} 'Where are you going?'

"I'm exhausted, and I want to make sure Elekid and Combusken are both at a hundred percent."

They nod.

{Alex} 'Bed time for both of you then.'

"Wow, I think we were right when we called Alex a mom, Natalie..'

She nods.

{Natalie} 'Ya think?'

We all laugh.
