Rejection

The woman, the shrink, asked the girl why she was here.

The girl said her father sent her here, to make her better. The shrink asked what was wrong with her.

The girl said she probably suffered from a trauma ever since her mother died.

The shrink asked if she was close to her mother. The girl answered that before her mother's death, she was already distancing herself from her mother.

Why did you distance yourself, the woman asked.

The girl answered that she didn't know, but that it was probably something close to fear of rejection.

Why did she fear rejection, the woman asked.

The girl didn't know. She was doubting if she had to say something even if she didn't know.

The girl said that she wasn't able to say 'I love you' before her mother's death. That she probably regretted that more than she thought.

The woman said it was fine if she wasn't able to tell her, she had heard about more of such instances. Not being able to speak properly at the most important.

It was something akin to stage fright.

The girl wondered. Is it really okay to compare it to something so minor?

The girl didn't realize her hands were gripped into tight fists. However, this didn't escape the shrink's eyes and she smiled.

The woman asked, don't you think you're mistaking your trauma? It is more likely that all you felt was guilt; after all, you said you regretted it strongly. You never mentioned being sad about your mother's death.

The girl didn't like what the shrink said. Why did she end up heartless just because she didn't mention she mourned her mother's death?

The girl felt tears prickling her eyes. Why! She liked her mother, yet people started misunderstanding her feeling of disconnection! She was sad. She felt sorrow. Even if it didn't show as much on her face, that didn't mean she didn't have any emotions at all!

She glared at the shrink, who was still smiling. It seems this woman is a lot less amiable than the girl first thought.

The shrink apologised to the girl. She didn't mean to hurt the girl's feelings, but rather just bring them out.

The girl felt speechless. Just because you wanted to check my emotions, you decided to anger me?!

The girl felt uncomfortable with someone like this. She wanted to leave as quickly as possible, but when she looked on her watch she realised only ten minutes had passed.

The shrink continued asking her more questions, she made her talk about herself more and more.

The weight on her mind felt lighter, but it somehow felt very forced so she didn't really feel al too comfortable about it.

Fifty minutes passed and it was time to end this charade. That was how the girl felt about it.

If you looked closely, you could see that the girl was slightly freer.

The girl forced a smile.

Although she had always been a child with face paralysis, she always tried to make more expressions.

Forcing a smile. Laughing at something she didn't like. Making angry expressions. Crying with extra emotion.

She felt like this way was more natural. Of course, this was only how it looked to her. To others, she was still a girl with a frozen face.

After all, beside her ex-friends who she really made an effort to belong with, she wasn't all too responsive to others.

So to them, when this Ice Queen ended up crying, they didn't know what to do. They just felt a little awkward. They weren't all too familiar with her, because she just locked out the people she didn't like.
