Book 1: Slaughter Daoist / Chapter 7 – 11 Days After

Ken slept for 3 days straight and woke up the next day. Even if his master supplemented his body with energy, his mental prowess was emptied out during the encounter.

Ken took his time and ate, then checked the bodies of the assailants. Even during the attack, he already had an idea of who they were, and after checking the 10 bodies and their belongings, it only solidified his theory.

They were his sister's mother's servants. Probably their assassination squad.

On the other hand, he was surprised that he was able to take on ten assassins of stage 10 mortal realm ranks. This only made his conviction to learn everything from the two techniques much stronger. "Grrrr!" Ken's face showed pain and his eyes were so cold and sinister. He looked like he was ready to kill again.

Trying to control the aura, he circulated his energies and attacked the bottleneck.

After a few hours, he passed the test and entered stage 8 of the mortal realm. Different from the usual upgrade in rank, the purity of the energy he got from getting to stage 8 was much better.

"This…" Ken felt the energy-sipping into his skin and body.

"This is the result of your hard work and the cultivation technique you're practicing. It's no surprise you can battle other people who surpass your rank. So work hard more and get to stage 10 fast." His master said.

Ken nodded and ingrained the words of his master in his heart.

"Ken, there's a saying that "Be a different animal and stay the same beast!"" His master said.

"Huh? What does that mean?" Ken was confused. He never heard of such a saying before.

"It means, no matter how strong you get, you must keep the same drive towards greatness, you keep the hunger to get better. Because, if you stop the hunger to get better and become at ease at your current self, you will never reach the top. You will not become the God that you wanted to be. Always remember that Ken." His master answered.

When Ken heard his master, he instantly memorized the phrase to heart.

"Yes, Master! I'll keep my hunger and will always maintain it so that I won't be complacent!" Ken resolutely said.

"That's it! You need to keep the hunger, my disciple! It's the recipe for success and I can vouch for it!" His master added.

Since his master swore that the phrase was an effective means for success, he firmly ingrained those words into his life. And in the future, these words will keep him at the top.

21 days have passed and it's the new day, which means a new mission. Ken wondered how many would he kill for the new mission and what would be the reward.

He woke up in the early morning after cultivating the whole night and then he heard the notification.

And when he read the mission, he felt excitement! A new sword! He would get a strong sword after killing 15 creatures!

With the new mission, he was injected with full of vitality and immediately cleansed himself at the nearby river. After cleansing himself, he already prepared the sword he got from those assassins. It was a High-grade mortal rank sword, a little bit better than his sister's so he put his sister's sword back in the storage ring as well as the other loots he got from all 10 assassins.

15 creatures! He could kill insects or weaker demonic monsters and he will be done for the next 27 days!

He got up and went deep into the forest to hunt.

"So, what's the status with my children?" A man, wearing an extravagant robe sitting on a throne where a giant sword was serving as its back seat, spoke. It was the king. Ken's father.

Another man wearing black shiny armor with dragon carvings answered while bowing, "Your majesty, only 60 out of 99 princes and princesses are still alive. Half of them are hiding while the other half are hunting those who were hiding or fighting each of those who hunt." This was one of the generals of the Kingdom.

"Oh. It seems that it will take a while. Keep observing them!" Ken's father said.

"Yes, your majesty!" The general saluted.

"Oh, right, what's the status of the 99th prince?" The king asked.

"Your majesty! We just got the news that he has already killed the 58th princess 21 days ago! And his highness 99th prince Ken has already reached Stage 8 of the mortal realm as well as killed 10 of her highness' mother's assignation squad!" The general answered.

"Oh? Ken did? How curious! Have you checked what kind of cultivation he was practicing?" The king asked again.

"Your majesty! We were not able to determine the kind of cultivation technique the 99th prince practices! However, we determined that his highness was practicing a killing technique. He used a sinister aura, a blood-thirsty aura to envelop himself and used his sword as its outlet! He produced a sword strike to kill the 10 assassins!" The general answered back.

"Hmmm… What do you think? Has he been contacted by those demonic practitioners? Only with those cutesies are the ones who I think can come up with that kind of cultivation technique… unless… he got a fortuitous encounter?" The king wondered.

"Your majesty! We've been closely monitoring each prince and princess and we can confirm no demonic sects were in contact with his highness prince Ken! We also wondered as he has no exceptional talent shown before the competition until now your majesty. We can consider his highness prince Ken to have had a fortuitous encounter!" The general said.

"Could be! Could be! Hmmm… I hope he wins, but that's still a question… Well, keep monitoring all my children! Only by surviving and being the remaining one can they all have a chance to win this bloody throne, like what I did and what my predecessors did!" The King said.
