Old to new

The clash of sword and claw could be heard throughout the ruins of what used to be a castle as a gleaming knight and a rat-like behemoth fought. What was left of the stonework crumbled from the force of the collisions. The battle seem to go on for hours until both collapsed to a knee their energy spent as they looked at each other.

"Where.... is... she?" The knight asked using their sword to stand back up Into their fighting stance.

"Below... but she is.... lost... to you." The behemoth answered with a smile as it tried to stand only to fall its wounds not letting it rise. The knight was shaking as they started to move closer while the behemoth hung its head down taking in a deep breath. The knight stopped standing before their prey sword raised high only to have to dodge to the side when the behemoth raised its head releasing a blast of dark energy catching the knight's left arm just before it was beheaded leaving the knight to wander through the rubble for their goal.

Meanwhile, In a dark void, a light in the shape of a rat sat in the palm of a large eldritch woman who move her head closer all her eyes focusing on the rat in her hand.

"So what are you planning on reincarnating into this time?" The woman asked getting only silence from the rat. "Volulan?"

"I think I'm done," Volulan said hanging their head down. "I feel it's time I move on to the next world cycle, I'm sorry Nu."

"There's nothing to be sorry for Volulan, the only thing is what am I going now," Nu said tapping her chin with her empty hand.

"Give me sixty years and I'll get you someone worth using don't worry," Volulan said placing a paw on the center of Nebula placing an orb in her hand. "A little gift for when I send them to you It won't be long just hold out." Volulan's form condensed into a ball of light which Nu sent off with a slight gesture and worry.

Fifty-eight years later on earth in a dirty alley, a man hit a wall leaving a blood smear as he slumped down leaving only one man standing surrounded by broken bodies and weapons. The man swung the blood off the long pipe he was holding before resting it on his shoulders before he pulled his phone out of his trench coat and took a seat on a nearby trash can. He looked around admiring his work noting some might die before making a call.

"Hey pops I've finished up and I'm heading back, was there anything you wanted me to pick up?" The man said getting up and kicking a woman who grabbed his leg with a sneer.

"Some good beer and a stake... also a locket for your mother."

"Got it I'll be back in a few." The man sighed putting away his phone before walking out the alley whistling a soft tune. After an hour and a call to the paramedics, he stood bag in hand in front of a brownstone building. He walked in feeling a weight fall off his shoulders, as three people stood there waiting for him then the party began in earnest ticking down the remaining time as tears were shed and photos were taken until the silence of sleep left only two remaining.

"Are you ready then, everything in order?" a man said opening a large dusty box.

"Yea, loose ends tied in a nice little bow." The other guy said relaxed as the first pulled out a gun covered in runes and seals and aimed it at the other's head.

"Then I won't waste time. Take care of her alright." The sound of gunfire filled the air echoing out until a white ball found itself floating to a large hand connected to a giant eldritch woman Nu, who was chained up in the darkness.

"So, Your the promised soul."
