Chapter 06- Level 1 Monster

Chapter 06- Level 1 Monster

Reo stopped his retreat and looked closely at the monster that seemingly sensed his presence this quickly and came here to attack him. He could've escaped easily before the enemy could reach him but he decided to fight it and see for himself what could happen if he killed it.

When the monster was close enough, Reo could finally see the monster clearly. Resembling dryad, this creature is covered in bark-like skin and is covered in dark brown hair. Large, bat-like ears and a muzzle-like face give it a feral and brutish appearance. A long, sinewy tail extends down to its feet and ends in a fork. Its hands and feet are tipped with long claws.

Its big, slitted eyes lacked any kind of emotions and merely eyed Reo as prey. Normally, this weird monster could scare anyone that saw it for the first time even if it was a weak monster. However, Reo didn't feel any kind of fear from it except for a slight wariness.

Reo looked at the monster's head where two words were written in large letters colored in an ominous red.

[Uruv: Level 1]

[5/5 HP]

The monster stood for a moment before it screeched even louder and attacked Reo without any hesitation. Its paws dug into the ground as it ran toward Reo wanting to shred him to pieces with its claws.

Reo didn't move from his place and waited for the monster to attack first. The Uruv reached him and slashed with its paws toward his stomach.

Reo merely jumped back, avoiding the attack easily before sending a kick to the monster's face.

*Bang*

The kick hit the monster square in the face and sent it flying a few meters in the air. Then, it landed roughly on the ground with a hoarse groan of pain.

The monster tried to stand up again but the hit seemed to have broken its skull and made it lose consciousness. The HP bar depleted quickly before it reached 0 and the monster died.

"Damn, it's weak as hell. I guess it's all bark and no bite." He muttered to himself with a surprised look.

A string of notifications attacked his eyes one after the other.

"So noisy." He muttered to himself. Still, he opened inventory to see what this monster dropped.

The inventory was very simple with 5 slots for storing items and only 3 of them were free at the moment.

The two items he gained were Uruv's skin and Uruv's claws. Reo didn't know whether they were useful or not but he still left them there for the time being until he grasped them.

"Wait, can I check their details or not?" An idea popped up in his head and he immediately tried it out. But…

[Ding!]

[Inspection skill not accessible. Reach Level 2 to unlock.]

"Hmm, fair I guess. I should go back and check quests first before another monster interrupts me again."

He then went back to the safe zone and sat on the ground barely a few meters away from the edge of the safe zone. This gave him a view of the whole place with no potential attacks from behind.

After that, he opened the quest section. There, he found many things that made him almost have a headache from the loud ding sounds.

'I have to grow accustomed to this sound soon or I will lose my mind.'

He shook his head to erase all the echo from the sounds and focused on the quests.

Reo read all the information carefully and most of it was pretty clear and comprehensible except for the last one. The place he was in now is called the plains of tranquility from what the system said but the problem is that there is no indication of how or from where he could leave the place when he finishes the quests. Should he just keep walking until he reaches the end of these seemingly endless plains? Was there another way out?

Reo didn't but he left that matter for later and only focused on what he could easily do.

"I should just go out and kill some weak monsters and level up.

After setting up his new goal he stood up, and dusted off his dirty clothes that looked like that of a villager. The game gave him these basic clothes when he first came here and they were pretty bad to be fair.

Then, as he was about to leave, he heard footsteps coming from behind him. He looked back to see the beautiful girl he saw a few minutes ago coming in his direction. She still had that cold expression on her face. Reo didn't think much about it as she could've just been walking out of the safe zone to go hunt some monsters. So, after a small glance, he started walking away.

However…

"Hey, you. Wait." She said coldly.

"What?"

The girl looked at him for a moment before she said.

"Do you want to team up?"

Reo squinted his eyes at her for a moment before he shook his head in refusal.

"I don't want to. Anyway, have a good day."

He then started walking away as if nothing happened. The girl also didn't try to persuade him nor did she get offended by his response. It was a simple offer and he refused it, nothing big about it.

Reo also appreciated her professional attitude and didn't try to make his day harder. He already had a bad impression of everyone he met outside of his village so he feared that he will have a hard time with the girl.

By the time Reo left the safe zone, the girl had already disappeared. So, he threw the matter to the back of his head and focused on the most important thing which was to hunt monsters.

So, he made a light stretching of all of his limbs to ready himself.

"I didn't run in a while. Let's see if my stamina didn't get worse." He muttered to himself.

After that, he dug his legs into the ground and used all of the muscles in his leg to make an explosive push. He started running at his fastest speed through the grassy plains.

A few seconds passed and he already crossed 80 meters which could rival that of a professional runner. This level was basically unheard of for a 16 years old boy which made it even more impressive.

Time passed with Reo crossing a large distance in a very short time.

Finally, he found his first target, or to be more precise…his first targets. A group of Uruvs was surrounding what seemed to be a dead corpse of some kind of animal and devouring it savagely.

He stopped a few meters away from them to inspect the situation. There were exactly 4 Uruvs, three of them were level one and the fourth was level two. The level 2 Uruvs was slightly bigger than his group and had more sharp claws and an even more intimidating aura around him.

Reo knew that that Uruv was going to be harder to kill than the other three. So, he needed to get rid of the first three first and then focus on the level 2 monster. The question is, how he should go around doing that?

He looked around him for anything he could use and sure enough, he found a small rock the size of his hand. He picked it up and aimed it at the closest Uruv.

*Swish*

The rock flew from his hand and hit the Uruv right in the back. It groaned slightly before it looked behind it angrily, searching for the culprit that hit it.

The others were way too engrossed in the process of eating the corpse so they didn't sense the abnormality. The Uruv then started walking in the direction of the Reo. The latter had already found a good hiding place and waited for his target to approach him.

When the monster was within his range, Reo jumped from his hiding and grabbed its head with both of his hands.

*Crack*

He twisted its neck to an impossible degree, killing the monster instantly without it being able to make a single sound.

"One down, three left." He thought as he looked at the dead Uruv calmly. His heart didn't feel anything when he killed the monster in such a brutal way. It was not his first kill ever after all. He had to fight way bigger monsters before and at the end of each fight, only a bloody corpse was left. That was what Reo learned to do from his grandfather.
