Different Kinds of Pain

I made my way around the house, I had been lucky enough that people didn't notice I was gone, plus I hadn't had any experiments done to me today, I only had to go report any symptoms and they checked up on my health.

I got into the empty dormitory and only saw Rose at the back in the kitchen, she was making a cup of tea, for Madame Leonelle I assume.

I made my way across the dormitory and into the kitchen to speak with her.

"Where were you? I worried about you"

She kindly smiled as she walked around the kitchen chopping up dry flowers and herbs for the tea

"I was asked to do certain things, to help out the supervisors and testers."

I already knew the answer but was baffled by the fact that she answered truthfully, that's not something to be proud of.

"And you're absolutely fine with that?" The smile she had on her face was no longer there.

"You're being biased, Iris, and selfish."

Me? Selfish? I was thinking about other people, I was worried about her integrity and who I thought she was, I don't understand how ANY of that is selfish.

"Rose, you're handing yourself over to the wolves, not only yourself but also the people around you.

The people you're supposed to help and understand"

She seemed to reflect upon my words shortly, I think she understood that I was telling the truth and have a point.

"Iris, they gave me benefits, and I'm not directly hurting anyone. If anything I was making their stay less torturous"

That's funny, she had just accepted that she was HELPING the supervisors, never the victims.

I couldn't look at her, Rose wasn't like this, Rose would never hurt anyone on purpose even if it was indirectly.

"Why are you doing it, Rose? Is any amount of delicious food or power worth it if it was covered in blood?"

Was that what my best friend wanted? Power? Benefits?

"You don't understand Iris-"

"You're absolutely correct, I don't. And I could never."

I stormed outside of the room, I didn't want to hear her any longer, the putrid words she was spitting made my insides turn in disgust.

Sometimes, when someone you think you know does or says something that you would never deem them capable of, you can never see them the same, you look at their face, you stare into their eyes, and all you can see is what they did.

Rose never struck me as the type to be bribed into hurting others the way she had been hurt.

As I angrily stormed the hallway, my mind everywhere but my actual surroundings, Madame Leonelle stopped me.

"Young girl, who gave you permission at all to wander?"

Fuck.

This could mean trouble.

"I was headed to the restrooms. I need to wash my face"

Madame chuckled.

"How funny, you don't look like you're going to the restroom."

I found the courage to look up at her plump face, with fear.

She grabbed my arm and pulled me into a section.

I was thrown into a room and locked inside, behind me, a man stood up from a chair, and before my mind could process anything that was happening he grabbed me and tied me down to a bed, and struck my neck with a flame.

I screamed out loud and he poured some white crystal-like powder on the burn.

My eyesight went red with anger and fear, I felt my head palpitate with adrenaline and my heart racing out of shock and fear.

The man then grabbed a knife and pulled up my tucked shirt to make an incision on my stomach before pouring a green liquid inside it.

By this point, the amount of adrenaline in my veins prevented me from feeling any of it.

I passed out.

Eventually, some of my senses awoke, I could feel my arm being messed around with, and I felt something covering my neck where the burn was.

I could smell something very strong. Very chemically.

I was aware that more things had been done to my stomach and neck because they felt different than before.

I also felt some pain around my ankles which meant that either something had been done to them or the restraints were too tight.

I refused to open my eyes but a tear escaped as I felt sorry for myself.

In such a short period of time, not even 10 minutes, so much had gone so wrong...
