Retaking Ottawa

The joint operation between CAF and Overwatch didn't take long to reach the fallen city of Ottawa.

Members of CAF looked out the window of the stratocopter down at the ruins of their once great city with sadness.

The stratoscopter quickly landed at the remains of Parliament Hill where it was decided to be the best place to set up a heron siege.

Exiting the stratoscopter, Sojourn studied the place they would have to defend with their lives on the line.

As she looked at the destroyed Gothic style building, she couldn't help but notice metal was stripped from the building as the engineers began to set up the herons.

Jack started surveying the area they would have to defend. He glanced over to the west towards the city, where the omnics were expected to come from.

Despite being told they had the defender's advantage, groups of four were directed to different places, which stretched their numbers thin.

As power flowed through the heron, one of the engineers informed the group that the herons would be fully operational in about 18 minutes.

Jack kept on his pokerface, showing no emotion at that news, although he didnt like it one bit.

From his time fighting omnics, he knew there were anything but dumb.

In fact, from the intel of everyone's battles, it appeared that they were evolving their strategies after every loss.

Even knowing this, Gabriel wanted to take advantage of the resources of our apparent newest member, Shawn, while we could and strike at the heart of the enemy, the New York omnium.

Gabriel had the final say, so I could only voice my opinion that went ignored, so the only thing that I could do was hope for the best on their mission.

The loud humming of the heron brought everyone out of their thoughts as they started to focus on the upcoming battle.

However, they were met with silence which gave everyone mixed feelings and thoughts.

The main basic soldiers feelt relief, as they thought that the earlier RCAFs bombing was more effective than projected and they wouldnt have to fight any omnics.

But Jack and Sojourn knew better, as they knew in war that if things were silent, that meant nothing good.

Sure enough, the calls over the radio started coming in of multiple units engaging with massive hordes of omnics.

In front of us, coming out of the Ottawa River, Bastion units started slowly coming out of the waters towards us.

The signal was given and the CAF opened fire on the enemy.

It was soon apparent to all, that the omnic numbers were greater than anything they've faced so far as even their flank was being assaulted.

As the attack started on the west like expected, the soldiers there felt the full pressure of the omnic assault.

No matter how many Bastions they took down, three more would take their place, stepping over their fallen brethren with no concern.

Sojourn came to assist and saw the sheer numbers of the omnic force.

"Jack, I think we should retreat while we can. Theres too many." She suggested on a radio channel to Jack.

Jack takes a second to consider. Fifteen minutes was all they needed, and if they left now, everything would be for naught.

"Thats a negative." Jack responded leaving no room for negotiation from Sojourn on the matter.

"Tsk." Sojourn pulled her railgun out and stride to the front lines, crouching behind the makeshift barrier as bullets whizzed past her.

"We need to push them back to the road. Once we do, we can hold them there." Sojourn orders.

Having a commander join them gives the men a boost of confidence as some men peek over with rocket launcher.

Five rockets crash into the lines of the Bastions exploding those caught in the blast into parts.

The rest of us peek over as they fall back over to reload as we launch a torrent of bullets at the Bastion.

They mow down rows of the omnics but the Bastions return fire.

A guy next to Sojourn yelps as a bullet tears through his head and he falls to the ground dead.

Sojourn notices and doesn't falter continuing to fire on the Bastions, her rail gun easily tearing through the Bastions.

Through continuous fire, they manage to push back the Bastions from reaching them and to the road despite losing a couple of men.

Jack oversees the protection of the engineers himself with a team, while listening to the calls over the radio.

As he kept track of what was happening, he knew that things weren't looking too good.

Each side holding the defense was struggling with the exception of the frontal where Chase currently was.

A call comes in about the line defending Alexandra Bridge about to be overrun.

Taking a deep breath, Jack picks up his rifle and heads towards the bridge.
