Ottawa Is Lost For A Reason

A Ravager observed their attack on the structure the human had set up near the city.

Its purpose was unknown, but it was obvious that it was meant to assist them in retaking the city judging from how desperate they were at defending it.

It must have great importance as they were risking a lot to attack this city so soon.

The Ravager knew the perfect weapon they could use to destroy this device.

Jack POV:

I easily sprint to the units defending the bridge thanks to the soldier enhancement.

I remember the unbearable pain that I went through to become the man I am now.

But there no time to think on that, I needed to address the enemies assaulting over the bridge.

There wasn't many enemies attacking their flank, so if they might hold the remaining time if he just assisted with this area.

Reaching the troops, he saw why they were struggling so.

There were over a hundred Bastion units walking over the bridge to reach our position.

Heading to the frontlines, I lean against the cement barricade our soldiers were using.

A soldier who was shooting was excited to see me and stops what he's doing to greet me.

His mouth opens and a bullet passes through it, and the soldier drops slowly to the ground dead.

The other soldiers notice but they can't afford to be fazed or they'll end up like him.

I assess that the rocket men with the soldiers are scared of the bridge collapsing which is why they don't fire.

"Lay down covering fire, then fire those rockets to push them back."

The soldiers pause for a second, doubting my order.

I peek over along with the other soldiers and start opening fire on the Bastions in front of us.

My bullets easily tore through any Bastion it came into contact with, there was so many it was impossible to not hit anything.

Bullets whiz past us, taking some soldiers out as they fire on them as well.

I decide that I have to prove to trust in the integrity of the bridge and I learn the gun against the barricade to keep the recoil under control.

The gun clicks, and seconds later, a helix rocket comes out and crashes into the ranks of the Bastions.

The bridge doesn't budge as metal parts fly off into the Bastions and the river below.

With newfound trust, the rocket men come forward and launch three rockets into their lines.

Finally applying the proper pressure, we push their numbers back towards the middle of the bridge.

Seeing the situation under a bit of control, I let out a sigh of relief, letting some of my tension die down.

I crouch back around the barricade to reload a helix rocket in case we need it again before a call comes back over the radio.

"We got a column of tank Bastion's incoming over the bridge. I've never seen so many of them." A panicked soldier says.

I hear Sojourn respond, "On the way."

I peek back over the barrier to see at least thirty tank Bastions heading our way.

A boom can be heard, and a whistling goes overhead of us, and an explosion happens in the ruins of the Parliament Hill building.

I heavily consider retreat at this moment but with the tank Bastions, it's impossible for a stratoscopter to extract us safely.

An explosion erupts on the barricade knocking us away as one of the tank Bastions fire crashes into it.

Getting up slowly staying behind the remains of the barrier, with the ringing in my ears fading, I notice my arm bleeding from a rock imbedded in it.

Pulling the rock out of it, the bullet whiz past me as I look at the rest of the soldiers.

One is trying to pull another comrade from the rubble of the destroyed barrier.

Another hasn't recovered and rolls around on the ground covering his bleeding ears.

The men holding the rockets are all but paste, therefore dooming any chance we had at destroying those Bastions.

But we can't extract while being assaulted on all sides, there was no chance at escape.

As if reading my mind, Sojourn kneels beside me as the tank Bastions draw nearer.

"We still have a way out of this, we have your helix rockets that could destroy the weak points on the bridge and clear out any omnics on that bridge." She suggests.

I pull the rock out of my arm and grab my fallen weapon off the ground.

"Let's not waste any time then." I reply.
