First time eating chicken

"May I know what is that, sir?" The half-demon woman asked what Alex was currently holding.

Alex had previously taken out a box containing thin chicken meat strips. He took out some cooked meat that he had saved when the woman was unconscious earlier. He intended to give this woman in front of him to eat with the warm porridge he had prepared. The woman needed protein to regain her energy, so Alex wanted to give her some meat.

But the woman's question was strange to Alex. He replied, "It's chicken. Why?"

Hearing that, the woman was shocked and immediately rejected what Alex was about to give her. "C-chicken?! I-i can't accept such a luxurious thing, sir."

"Huh, luxury?" said Alex looking confused. All he was holding was a chicken. How could it be a luxury item?

"Is that a common food in your place, sir? The chicken, I mean." The woman asked hesitantly.

Alex just nodded to the oblivious answer. He then put the shredded chicken into the porridge bowl and passed it to the woman.

At first, the woman was hesitant to accept. But she couldn't refuse what her savior gave her. When she takes a spoonful, a taste that she can't describe enters her mouth. A taste that she had never sensed before. She didn't know that food could be this good. All she had been eating was bread, potatoes, beans, and the like. This was her first time eating meat.

The woman can't stop being delighted. She couldn't stop moving her spoon. It was to the point that the porridge Alex had cooked ran out. Only then did she feel sad that something wonderful had just disappeared.

Seeing the woman's expression, Alex just giggled. "I can bring you more chicken if you want."

Hearing that, the woman's face brightened up. But she immediately realized that what she wanted was too much.

"Please don't trouble yourself, sir. It's a blessing that I can have a chance to taste this wonderful food you gave me, sir."

"It's not going to bother me, okay. But is it that hard to get something like chicken here?"

The woman went quiet at Alex's question. "It's not just hard. It's outright impossible to get. The unpredictable weather makes it almost impossible to grow crops or raise livestock. Corps can only be grown using specific soil in a specialized place like a glasshouse, and meat can only be imported from faraway cities. So something like the chicken you gave me is something only rich people can get."

"I see."

While the situation was unfortunate, Alex gained new information about this world. If what the woman said was true, then he could take advantage of this. By selling something rare in this world but very common in his world. However, he also needs an equivalent exchange, or he will go broke in his world.

That meant Alex needed to ask this woman to show him around to learn everything about this world.

"Um, sorry to ask, but can you tell me about that city where you live, miss?"

The half-demon woman was once again dejected upon hearing Alex's question. All unpleasant memories flashed through her mind. But it was a simple question, so how could she refuse what her savior wanted to know?

"It's a city called Karlingford, sir. Once a capital of a big province in the past. But now reduced to just being a walled city. It's one of the cities where your kin, humans, govern. I think inside the cities, seventy percent were non-humans like me, demons, orcs, and beast-men. Most of them have jobs as hunters. I think that's all I know about Karlingford, sir. Please forgive me if it's not quite a satisfactory answer."

The woman's answer wasn't quite what Alex wanted. But it was a good start. So he just needed to dig deeper.

"Was there any specialty in Karlingford?"

"I-i didn't know how to answer that, sir. As I never go to every part of the city. But if there was one thing I know about Karlingford, it was that it was known for its entertainment business."

Alex pondered the woman's answer. He didn't know what he could profit from the specialty she described. It seemed he needed to see the city himself to evaluate what could be sold to his world.

"Then, can you tell me the way to that city? I wish to go there."

"I-i can accompany you there. If you permit."

"No, please. You need to rest. Also, won't you get in trouble if you go back?"

It was true what Alex said. It was likely that the half-demon woman would be targeted by the brutes who wanted to make her a slave again. But since she knew her savior could get into trouble since it was Alex's first time in Karlingford. So he couldn't leave him alone.

"If you permit me to be on your side, it will be alright, sir. The one who targeted me won't lay a hand on a human."

This still concerned Alex. Not because the woman can help her or not, but because he worries that her body has not yet recovered.

"Are you sure your body will be fine?"

The woman just nodded, "I am already in full strength because of your food, sir."

It seemed Alex couldn't ask her to stay. Also, he needed a guide too. So if she didn't mind, then how could he refuse.

"Alright, I will be in your care then."

The woman's face was immediately happy at Alex's words. Soon they tidied up all the things in the room. Then they prepared to travel to Karlingford.

But when Alex opened the room door, a creature was waiting for him from outside. A Bloodwolf stared at him fiercely.
