Orlov's Files

Nikolai Orlov did not expect his new year to start with him in another body and drowning in a river after a bullet grazed the side of his skull. Swimming up, he realized that he had now possess the ability to stay in third-person and use the ability of his game character from an open-world crime simulation game he once played. However, in this world where there are augmented humans and crazy crime families aiming for power, his abilities weren't that impressive. Corporations, Crime Families, Augmented Humans, and even mutants, how the hell would he survive without stepping on their toes?

The Little Heiress 2

Yua looked at the man and woman before her. Nikolas Orlov was someone she found through unearthed records. His record itself was so clean that she concluded that he must have enough skill to fool a lot of people and have the technical skills to hide himself. Of course, Yua knew that she couldn't possibly just easily persuade strangers for protection. Yua was smart enough to recognize that no one would take someone of her age seriously.

So she was rather glad to see that Kim Jisoo was around. Even Yua's mama knew of the one-eyed swordswoman who carried her blade around. Famous for her activities in the Red Sun. The last record of what she did was to wipe out her competitor in Pacifica. There was almost no trace of Kim Jisoo. Even Yua with the network and information of the Takemura Family could barely find her.

It took months for Yua to find her. Following her trail was hard. Not to mention that she had to avoid the enemies of her family while doing it. So she was glad that she managed to get some clues. Someone spotted Kim Jisoo and saw that this was her last chance.

A woman who could slaughter an entire clan for her own. So if she could get her assistance, then if her mother was right. Then she would have a higher chance to survive. She was confident that she was the first to find Kim Jisoo's hideout.

What she didn't expect was to find Nikolai Orlov with her. The two were a pair and were rather close. Yua saw that Miss Kim was willing to assist her with her eyes alone. Yua thought that she could be assisted if she could speak a few words to Miss Kim.

There was even a short-lived fantasy in her head where she would order her to kill the mean people who killed her parents. But only for a moment. For the eyes of Nikolai Orlov seems to read her mind.

"Survive or Revenge?"

A question that he had asked directly. Yua found herself unable to speak for seconds. And even though she was confident in herself. She was not confident in her chances. And there was only one path of survival available for her. And that path was to kill what was human of her.

She wanted to survive. When she said that she saw kindness rather than cold scrutiny in the eyes of Nikolai. He leaned back as if he was glad to hear what Yua had to say and looked at her.

"We'll help you survive. Ain't that right?" he said to Kim Jisoo. Jisoo approached and examined Yua. Her pair of beautiful eyes scanned her whole body as if wondering.

"Did you have this neural port? Or did you do it yourself?"

"I did it."

"I see. No wonder it doesn't have the serial mark of a professional tech-doctor. Could have killed yourself. You look like Miss Yuuki in her pictures. Do you have bodyguards around?"

"No."

"She's probably here all alone. You can see that she's using deployable drones to give her a much taller form," Nikolai pointed out.

Yua activated her holo-form and became a woman with average features. One that would perfectly go unnoticed amongst the crowd. Miss Kim passed her hand through the hologram and noticed that the drones were acting like a physical barrier for her.

"Interesting. It's like a digital mask but is rather improved. I guess Miss Yuuki's daughter is as brilliant as her. I was sure that you'd died."

"Eh?"

Miss Kim raised her brow as if seeing Yua's confusion. "I did search after Mrs. Yuuki after my clan went down. Unfortunately, I was wrapped in my quest of vengeance and have not come to your aid. I've dealt with the men who killed Mrs. Yuuki, but I know that there are still others who are alive. I couldn't get in, no, even for me it's impossible to reach their place."

Yua saw the burning flame in her eyes. That flame that seems to devour everything in it. Yua felt her skin stand up seeing that. She turned towards Nikolai and saw that he was calmed to her voice. Nikolai patted Miss Kim's shoulder, and made her calm down.

Yua found that look that Miss Kim gave to Nikolai quite similar to what her mother would give to her father. Miss Kim calmed the fire in her eyes and asked.

"I'll keep you safe. I… don't know if you'd seek vengeance. But I will keep you alive. That's what matters now."

Nikolai Orlov folded his arms. Yua could not find the right word. There was this quietness in Nikolai that made her uneasy. A stare that seems like he was looking deep into whatever it was inside her. And yet there was also a relief. A feeling that as long as she's with these two. She could somewhat survive.

She had nothing to give.

She was dragging people to her problem. The apartment alone made it clear that they were having a good time. And yet here she was barging into their life.

It wasn't right.

She was doing something bad. She knew it. And at the same time she wanted to believe that through their help she would be able to survive. She had no one else to rely on from the start.

She didn't expect anything from coming here other than anger and rejection.

Her little heart knew that she was easy to influence.

That it is so easy to turn away a child like her. And yet she knew it herself that the one looking at with cold scrutiny was the one who had allowed her to be protected by them.

"Thank you, kindly," she bowed her head.

Nikolai placed his hand on her head. She looked up slightly and saw the tiny smile on him.

"It's alright. You're just a kid trying to survive. I can't blame you for looking at others to survive."

Yua's eyes brightened.

She sincerely thought to herself she didn't start with lies.
