Orlov's Files

Nikolai Orlov did not expect his new year to start with him in another body and drowning in a river after a bullet grazed the side of his skull. Swimming up, he realized that he had now possess the ability to stay in third-person and use the ability of his game character from an open-world crime simulation game he once played. However, in this world where there are augmented humans and crazy crime families aiming for power, his abilities weren't that impressive. Corporations, Crime Families, Augmented Humans, and even mutants, how the hell would he survive without stepping on their toes?

"So these are all the things we need to do?"

Marion asked. Nix was keeping the compound we captured. The orbs that I deployed were keeping the compound internally and externally secured. I didn't need to do much honestly. Just let the two go on a rampage while I secure the rest of the unmarked and undiscovered compound.

"Access code accepted, welcome, Administrator."

"What's this?"

Marion looked around. Red lights blinked in and out of the compound. A digital projection of the Sentient AI named Aurora appeared before us. She's walking using the orb deployed from her main computer.

She was dressed like a long-skirted maid with a white black headband with her hands joined. She examined the three of us before facing her gaze at me.

"This compound is not something that shouldn't be found."

She said that while looking at me. Her digital eyes had this somewhat amused expression. A knowing smile as if she herself couldn't believe that this would ever happen. A Sentient A.I with a Gamma Core like her is beyond Ghost Tech and she can even deduce things that are beyond.

Probability computing that is sadly limited by her inability. She simply does't have the processing power and that is her major flaw. She's above genius because of the nature of her creation. But she's still based on an engram of a woman who could not cast away her feelings.

Sensing what was coming. Marion retreated from the area while keeping her protective shielding from being compromised by SAI. The Sentient Artificial Intelligence scanned me.

"No Augments found. Ghost Tech Found. Compromising. ERROR. Engaging into Aggressor Mode."

The drone that came out of the main computer turned into a holographic image. I drew the blade on my left arm and deflected the first sudden attack. The other drone appeared and shot a blade of concentrated energy that I shot down with a charged blast from my N9.

One thing lately is that I have considered what may happen to me. I learned a hard lesson in Agua and because of that lesson I kept my guard up all the time and attuning to my 'skills' had allowed me greater control.

SAI wanted to use my back. But the thing was that I have a look around my surroundings and can catch and react to any enemy. Not to mention that recently after being shot to near-death in Agua.

I finally got a hold of my QTE reflexes. It's like pressing an imaginary button in my head as always, but this time it was life saving and far quicker than manually pushing that button on my head to counter.

SAI's attacks made me realize how I should have attuned myself to this body. Being in third-person feels like it's dulling my soul. And although I have somewhat gained much as I put myself into danger. I cannot progress without acquiring equipment. I was already wearing the most compatible gear for me. My perks are all activated and maxxed and yet my life almost ended because of a shot from nowhere.

Knowing that. Why would I still hesitate on letting myself go when in third-person? Combat mode. In this state I don't like to think of anything other than how to subdue my enemy.

SAI continued attacking while I pressed on. The more she attacked. The extendable blade on my left arm was hitting her drones. Marion watched on the side with her synthetic face placid. She told me before coming here that she'd judged who I am after this.

The thing is that the way Morgan fought was like a boogeyman. A dangerous mercenary that was further enhanced. I was somewhat imitating the way he fought to near perfection. There are some things that are missing like how nimble Morgan is and how he uses the objects around him to fight. But that didn't stop anyone from identifying me as Morgan.

SAI continued on attacking helplessly. Her attacks are missing. Parried. And deflected by the hook-bracer that I kept on my left arm. SAI's digital eyes remained on me as she kept on attacking. It was then that I heard a bell ring in my digital mask. The program that I uploaded into her mainframe began to load and although SAI knew about it.

SAI knew what would happen to her. The SLAVE control program was easy for her to remove, and she can reject it. But the thing is that the moment I entered this facility with Marion and Nix. She had already deemed me as the Administrator. This was nothing more than a ceremonial test. If anyone else takes on what she was giving me right now.

They would die. Maybe Jisoo can take her down because she's a monster with that ghost tech sword of hers, but still it was easy enough to take down SAI without damaging her components.

SAI assessed the situation and then finally realized the futility of her test. She switched her combat mode off and then went normal. I looked at my blade and then realized that it was somewhat dented.

"Apologies, Administrator."

"It's alright. Activate sectors. Let others know that Karagi is in the hands of the Specters."

"Understood, Administrator."

Sai dissolved and socketed back to the mainframe computer. The facility lit up and video feed of all the areas supervised by Sai is now being streamed in the facility.

"Marion, contact Trixie and tell the bosses in the upper platforms that they should contact you soon."

Marion didn't move.

"I still don't understand why you are letting me have this. Then again you wouldn't think that I would betray you?"

"You can. Besides, you have this, like what you wanted."

Marion stared at me.

"I don't know if you are a lazy boss or you simply wanted to be the one behind while I do all the work."

"I say the first."

Marion shrugged and plugged herself in and became the face of this facility. She was in a state of enlightenment and clarity. She stared at the air as if she was seeing something amazing.

With Marion plugged. I retreated away and let her take care of facility while I reap the benefits.
