Orlov's Files

Nikolai Orlov did not expect his new year to start with him in another body and drowning in a river after a bullet grazed the side of his skull. Swimming up, he realized that he had now possess the ability to stay in third-person and use the ability of his game character from an open-world crime simulation game he once played. However, in this world where there are augmented humans and crazy crime families aiming for power, his abilities weren't that impressive. Corporations, Crime Families, Augmented Humans, and even mutants, how the hell would he survive without stepping on their toes?

Hunters and Preys

There isn't that much excitement thankfully. Ever since Yua started living with us. We've become aware. I even had to rig the safehouse to make sure that I have constant surveillance. Had designed a simple machine learning AI that detects any intruder. I have to compile a simple database where I capture the faces of the residents of the area and their likeness. It's horrible how in the past few months I've captured about four hundred fifty faces. It's easy to match their faces, find their socials, and dig on whatever info that they have on them. Linking search engines, and letting the AI sort them was not easy. At least I didn't think it would be easy.

Database management and then making sure that there are no duplication errors made me hurt my head. Yua, who was interested in my simple surveillance network, tampered with it. She solved the query issues and even lent some of her source codes.

She's rather keen on interacting with the system. She considered herself as a tenant so she was keen on making herself useful. She even had her own savings which was truthfully enough for her to leave this area and never come back.

The thing was that she would fare better if she's here. Hiding under the nose of her enemies. Skipping town and leaving the city would only make it easier for her enemy to find her. And when they find it'll be easy to take care of her.

Jisoo had temporarily abandoned her handler task. She was keeping an eye on folks coming in and out of Agua City. I want to make sure that no one gets in unnoticed. At least the people who might have connections to Pacifica City would.

I stayed in the safehouse while digging information everywhere. It was only then that I realized that after further reading and information digging that there was a bounty on Yua's head. Half a million dollars worth of money. You can capture her and then present her to the folks. Knowing this I dug up who was the fucker who was paying it and then made use of the spyware I placed in their database to match the person.

The best I could do was keep folks like him from bothering us. I sent a lovely malware to make a mess of his own database systems and personal information. It is childish, but if he's smart enough, then he'll understand why I was targeting him. Unfortunately, despite my 'tech-savvy' ability. I cannot fully infiltrate some of the isolated systems. They have net blockers that are keeping and killing any malware or injections. So unless I got direct access to one of their ports. It would be impossible to access them.

Yua offered some advice. Her head's full of technical knowledge. So I had asked her about digital masks and wondered if I could get a peek of her source code. She wasn't that comfortable, but after a round of persuasion. I got her to teach me on how to improve the digital mask to make a digital mask that could allow you to generate an appearance.

"You're a genius," I said to her.

Yua nodded and went back to tinkering with her computer. She was using her own hardware and at the same time she was doing something else. She was interfacing by connecting herself to a neural network. I just simply don't understand why anyone would put a neutral link in their heads. It does make you able to directly interface with software, but in exchange you are leaving yourself vulnerable to black hats who could put a digital bomb in your neural chip.

I didn't try asking about it. However, I do sometimes examine her hardware to understand what they are. A simple touch or being close to an object allows me to examine them. They roughly give a quick history so deducing things have become a far easier task to me now.

Not to mention that it gives an advantage since I don't remember everything. I didn't have a photographic memory so I cannot remember them. Although I do store them into my mental journal to give myself an easier time.

Our days went on like normal. Every day I would wake up to prepare food for Jisoo and Yua. Then I would keep an eye on my software for the rest of the day while Jisoo makes sure that no one enters our field without us knowing.

However, I have started seeing strangers. They even detected some of my face trackers that made me curious. They were slowly closing in to our location. They were smart enough to make use of the crowds and even conceal themselves with hats and surgical face masks to avoid being detected. Jisoo could just strike them down, but the thing is that they are probably going to confirm that we are in this area.

The way these people act makes it clear that they are professionals who are without a doubt hired. Half a million attracts greedy moths. And seeing that they were increasingly getting bolder. It made me realize that perhaps they are looking for Jisoo as well. The only member who was alive of the Red Sun was Jisoo and she have connections to Mrs. Yuuki Takemura. So it isn't that far off to think that the daughter would be looking for the survivor of the Red Sun for protection.

Knowing this I had to contact Jisoo about this and after a few moments to spare. She had decided that we should move to a different place. Jisoo said that she has another safehouse somewhere. I didn't have time to ask where that safehouse is since we decided to move immediately.

Yua, who saw me packing, looked down on the floor. "I'm sorry. Because of me your peaceful life has been ruined."

I tilted my head unconsciously. "It's not about you. It's about Jisoo wanting to make sure that you are safe. And I'm not that heartless to leave a kid alone when she needs it."

"You don't call me a genius."

"Well, genius as you are, you're still a kid, Miss. Keep close to Jisoo, she'll protect you."

She nodded quietly. I packed some of our luggage and went to my car. I was about to enter my car when I saw Jisoo running at extreme speed towards me. I was then thrown out of my body to a third person view, ducked the shot, and then I saw myself getting shot twice in the chest.

I was fast enough for the first shot, but the second and third shot made sure that I was down.

Then I saw my status going down to shit
