He Just Drives

The past few days had me waiting on the girls. I got their contact number and would do chores for them. I was basically their lackey despite my contract saying that I'm only their personal driver.

[Health: 100]

[Armor: 100]

[Wanted Level: 0]

[Reputation: Reliable Associate]

[Status: Stable]

The three girls are opinionated. They know how to make a man swoon and for the past couple days I've been able to avoid their traps. They are high class. Their upbringing showed that they were groomed to be expensive and desirable.

Their gestures are well practiced and every movement makes you feel like they like you when in truth they aim for your money. It's actually pretty scummy how they get away with entertaining their customers. Customer would like a kiss? Pay up an additional hundred. They ain't doing anything without incentives and unlike the escort girls. They pretty much are high-class and protected. The escorts are hoping that they'd become courtesans to become a posh lady who wears luxurious dresses and swindles men out of their dollars. Philippa has this patron who buys her dresses and jewels. She is quite amused about the man and so far the best thing she had done for the man was rubbing the man's crotch.

Miss Ingrid, who takes on customers, seems to like her job as well. She has quite a list of clients who are Mafioso. Miss Loretta plays the 'innocent girl' act so well that she sends shivers down my spine. As for Miss Eloise she is quite blunt and has a tendency to attract customers who are… rather strange. She likes looking at them like garbage and her customers treat her like a queen. She is quite the second in terms of earning money. At least what Mr. Strauss said to me. They actually get a lot of cut while also free to swindle any poor fucker who sucks them dry.

Miss Philippa has a lot of work. She has most of the customers so I had more time to spend with the Miss who gave me advice. Told me that I'll do well if I don't get any ideas about them. It was a kind threat considering what these women could do. So as someone who didn't want to offend these ladies. I behaved like a eunuch which made them either tell me that I'm boring or a 'statue' who can't get it up. My placidity, and my try-hard professional demeanor was saving me from trouble.

Below their apartments was the bar where some of the higher-ups and soldiers of the Family were entertaining. It was also the place where a smoky-voiced woman named Margaret sings every night with a fur coat and thin dress. She was the favorite of the family and from the looks of it. One of the courtesans who had paid for their freedom.

I usually stay in their bar drinking beer. After that I would either leave and go back to my apartment. Lately, I wasn't able to go back to my apartment because I became the driver for the girls. I used one of the guest rooms sometimes to sleep. The soldiers of the family usually occupy them and some of these rooms are where some of the 'services' happen.

The pay is good. Considering that I only do driving. Nance, who has become my text mate, was quite annoying regarding how the clubs work. She is quite jealous about how I got a better job than her lately. Timotei was also asking about the girls which I would just reply with typical words like they are beautiful or sexy. Other than that I don't talk about how they are or Timotei's bullshit like introducing him to Alfie. I wasn't a big shot and all I do is drive so I found that ridiculous.

"Nik? Time to go."

Miss Loretta said. Today she wore this skimpy dress. She was showing a lot of cleavage and around her bare shoulder was this silver necklace. Her breasts were narrowly covered and it was quite magical, seeing how her nipples didn't show despite her swaying movements. And she was showing her eye-luring legs.

"Like it, Nik?"

"You're beautiful, Madam."

She smiled thinly. "Well, we're meeting one of my clients today. It might get kinky since he's one the ruder ones. I hope you know how to operate the soundproofed partition."

"Got it, Madam. Destination?"

I opened the backdoor for her. She settled down on the seat. "Take us to HighGarden. He'll recognize the car."

Nodding, I entered the driver seat and drove to High Garden. On our way there the nighttime scenery of Pacifica was quite lovely. There were about Six Districts of Pacifica City. Eastbrook was the district where I lived while Brooks was the district where the clubs and casinos were.

High Garden was one of the largest districts. Second largest is Coleman which has the government offices. Portown was where the largest shipping industry, harbors and airports were while Afores was the outskirts of Pacifica. I was able to get to where High Garden was without any problem.

Tall glass buildings, skyscrapers, and high-class folks. I parked near this building while a man swaggered to the car. Miss Loretta sighed hard before she greeted the man inside.

Once they got settled in I had to raise the partition while they kept busy. I turned on the music while keeping my eye on anything that might happen. Nothing happened for a good fifteen minutes when suddenly I saw that Miss Loretta was pressing the button. I lowered the partition a little and switched to third-person.

With my 'ghost' leaving my body and watching over my shoulder. I spotted the Miss and this man arguing.

"You brought me trouble Collins!"

"I didn't know that they'd be after me!"

"Shameful man! Do you think that you can use me as you please? Is that why you weren't so stingy today? Is that so, Mr. Collins?"

"Babe, it's not like that. It's that they are trying to fuck me over!"

"Is there anything wrong, Miss?" I intervened. Collins glared at me. His brows met together and chin lifted up like some damn king.

"Don't bother us!"

"I have to if the miss is displeased."

I said as calmly as I could. There was no emotion on my face and seeing that his growling doesn't work for me. He took his hands off Miss Loretta. About to ask the Miss if I want to throw him out of the car when I heard tires screeching. Collins first reaction was to look like he shit his pants at the sound.

My bullet time reacted. Saw their windows going down and my first reaction was to stomp on the pedal and drive fast. The bullets barely miss us. "Hold on, Ma'am!"

I drove like mad. My senses told me where to drive and which alley. I zipped through the traffic while avoiding cars, barriers, and made use of the tight turns. The drivers who were after us didn't let up. They were shooting at us madly. Had to make use of other cars as shields, take very sharp turns and escape by making this mad drive through the streets of High Garden to the sub-districts where I lost them finally.. Couldn't hear the shouting behind my back and I was lost in adrenaline. Thank God the gateway master worked so I didn't have a hard time evading.

With us being able to get away. I turned my attention to the fucker who got us into this trouble in the first place.

Nik manhandled Collins easily. Lifting him up and slamming his back on a wall. He's an easy going guy, uninterested mostly in the girls, and professional enough to do what he's paid to do. He's a weird guy who either has an eye fetish or wasn't that bewitched by the girls. Eloise doesn't trust him while Ingrid finds him funny. For Loretta, he had earned some trust for his good driving.

Tall, strong, and has good looks despite being a former dock worker. Strauss gave some background on him and from the looks of it he was an undergraduate who recently got out of college, started brawling on a fight club, and became a drug runner -- a successful one that it merited him into becoming our driver.

Calm, polite, and toneless. That was the best way to describe him. It wasn't easy to trust, but for Loretta, it was quite a blessing to have him. Collins made a mistake and it almost cost their life. Good thing Nik was a very good driver and evaded their pursuers safely.

"Let go of me you fucking degenerate!"

Nik gave him a punch that made a bruise. He held him with his left hand and dialed the number of Strauss. Informed him about what happened and told them to bring Collins back.

"You're coming with us, Sir."

Nik punched him once and threw him on the back of the car. Loretta rode shotgun while Nik took a handkerchief and wiped his fist. The car drove back to Brooks. Nik remained silent as he drove.

"Good job, Nik."

"It's my job, Miss."

Loretta looked at him. "You're a good driver. I guess that's why you were hired, eh."

He nodded. Loretta leaned on her seat. "Always so stiff and silent. Are you not interested in any of us?"

"I am," he said. "But it's a job to me, Miss. And I really need the money so I don't want to mess up."

"I heard you don't pay your loans now."

"I don't."

"You don't plan to stay long in this kind of profession?"

"Perhaps."

"Collin's a bastard. But we'll earn more if we keep him alive. You haven't killed anyone?"

Nik shook his head. "Thankfully, I haven't, Miss."

"If you stay along long enough then you might kill someone. Indirectly or directly. Collins here has a fifty-fifty chance of finding himself in a ditch because of this."

"It's nothing personal."

"Well, it's not your fault if he dies because he's stupid enough. But to involve the Family is going to be tough on him. He'll be treated like a slave or be handed over to the bastard who he pissed off. Don't worry about it, Nik. It ain't your fault that he'll end up somewhere."

"I know."

Nik drove in silence. There was not a single emotion on him.

Loretta got out of the car first and was welcomed by her friends. Collins was manhandled by Strauss's men while Nik stood on the side and watched. Loretta explained what happened and stayed for a while to testify against Collins.

Nik told the corpo how it went down. Since there was nothing that went down and there was no damage to the car. The corpo issued a check and apologized for involving the Family in this business and left.

Strauss praised Nik for his driving while smiling happily at the check that they got from the Corpo. Loretta went with the girls back to their apartment. She told them a clear detail on what happened.

"Well, thank God Nik was the one driving. If the previous bastard was the one taking me around I'll lose my goddamn mind!"

"Thank God, indeed."

"Nik's a good driver, even got us compensation and the car didn't have to be repaired."

Eloise said nothing. Loretta, who got off safely for this sudden mess, thought of helping Nik out.

"He ain't that bad, Eloise. He's a good man trying to make a living. And you saw his eyes. He ain't interested in us that much."

"It's a trap," Eloise said while holding on to her other harm.

After the last driver took advantage of her. Eloise has been wary to the point that she'd prefer the company of folks who pay her than those who act like good folk. Philippa told Eloise that it'll be alright and it would be wise to worry about the problem later on. Loretta said to Eloise that she got Nik figured out and he wasn't going to be a problem, considering how he did well in escorting her and getting her out of trouble unscathed.

But Eloise's face remained doubtful. She was not so easy to trust regardless of what Nik had done good for Loretta today. And in her defense, it was far too early to judge a man who doesn't show much of himself.
