Old Greed

Myriad Online wanted Grey to play to appease an investor. His crime syndicate wanted him to play to set up racketeering operations. Gilgamesh, the God of Greed, wanted Grey to play to amass wealth for him. All were ecstatic when he enthusiastically agreed. However, things didn’t go as planned—for any of them. Before starting, Grey stole a game testing guide, giving him insider information on the game. Then, contrary to expectations, he refused to play the game! Instead, he used the information to exploit players and become [independently] wealthy! - PVP? Is that a gambling event? - Mandatory events? Did someone say they needed protection? - Level grinding? Is that when you use cheat weaponry to level up quickly? - Quests? Obviously. How else would he exploit known NPCs? Okay, so maybe he crashed a few major quest lines, but there’s nothing worse than forced development, ammirite? Grey was a walking disaster for everyone involved. However, by the time Myriad Online, his syndicate, and the government decided to stop him, Grey and his gaggle of bloodthirsty combat maids were already too rich, influential, and powerful to hold down. Not even the gods could tame the teen, who accidently stumbled upon some things he really, really shouldn’t have. - ═─┈─═[Story Notes]═─┈─═ - I put the villain tag because Grey grew up in an organized crime syndicate... and acts like it. XD However, he's not a villain character, so don't get bent that he treats his murderous yandere maids like princesses—as they deserve. - Myriad Online maid outfits have Level 999 plot armor. - The auxiliary chapter is a game guide with Grey’s stats. Status screens replace info dumps and then disappear. - [Warning: Sexual Content] - ═─┈─═[Story Tropes]═─┈─═ Video Game | MMORPG | Harem | System | Rich | Billionaire | Sci-fi | Yanderes | Urban | Fantasy | Mechanic | Beast Women | Divine Beasts | Cat Ears | Anti-Hero | Villain(?) | Dark | Comedy | Action | Adventure | Romance | With Maids | Maids | With Guns | Sexual Content | If There Are Lemons: | No Fetishes | No NTR | No Taboo | Or Tentacles | Ewww | You're Welcome - I do not own the cover art. An Immature, Intergalactic Fit

Rykerians and Earthians fell silent simultaneously, both unbelieving what they heard.

The former questioned his political motivations or insanity, and the latter couldn't believe he'd spend 6.6 billion real credits to buy an [NPC].

"Y-You're joking, right?" Lina stuttered, looking at the shocked elites for help.

"I'm not joking." Grey replied straight-faced, "I want to buy Emma Kline without legal restrictions so she can roll that mystery box on the stage."

He turned around to face the stunned elites and players.

"What is the point of wealth if a person cannot do whatever they please?" The teen asked with a wicked grin, "To have the power to do anything—obtain anything?"

After panning the audience, he looked at the halo camera with a mysterious expression.

"That's why I pursue wealth, Rykerians." Greed declared with a sinister glint in his eyes, "I'm greedy and want what I want, whatever it may be.

It doesn't matter how much it costs or how worthless it is. That's the value of wealth, is it not?"

A wave of excitement washed over the Earthians, the first to react. They burst into overwhelming applause, waving through the area.

"Tell me, Earthian legacy families and Rykerians." Grey asked strangely, "Is my request so strange? Or does it represent everything we aspire to as elites!?"

The legacy families exploded in overwhelming applause, and half the Rykerians got swept away in the fervor, clapping.

"So that's my offer." Greed grinned, turning back to Lina, "To prove myself an elite of this new and powerful frontier, I offer to buy Emma Kline free of her chains so she can spin that box!"

Every Earthian burst into overwhelming laughter, unbelieving their ears. [Greed] was far more absurd than anyone could've ever believed!

However, while most Rykerians cheered or clapped politely, the celestial elites watched with narrowed eyes.

Putting a half-blood on an official auction stage in Ridgemont Heights made a statement that the federation made exceptions for traitors if they had money. It was a social and political time bomb.

Only one such person was standing and clapping with a strange smile—Michael Raven. None discounted the goliath figure's appraisal and willingness to face backlash for Greed, so they watched in interest.

"What do you say, Elite Federation?" Greed asked the halocameras mysteriously, "Will you make an exception to pay off a six-century debt by letting a teen roll a box on the stage?

To establish your relationship with me, Greed, and the 250 million financially motivated transmigrators watching me right now?"

The elites staring at the teen in scorn, shook reflexively, becoming aware that the current political issue was intergalactic, not just intercontinental.

Greed caught their understanding, gazing at them with demonic green eyes that expressed that he had won.

However, that abruptly changed when the haloscreen in the back of the auction stage switched images.

A lean, black-haired man wearing a charcoal gray suit replaced the auction floor, sending shivers crawling down the Rykerian's spines.

Even Michael's amused expression turned grave, awaiting the man's words.

"Transmigrator Greed," The man said dryly, "My name is Eli Fairbrook, the chairman of the Elite Federation."

"Greed, just Greed." Greed replied with a slight bow, sweating internally, "It's a pleasure, Chairman Fairbrook."

"We seek an amicable relationship with the transmigrators and have enjoyed this auction." Eli said soberly, "We have high hopes for you.

However, do you understand that your actions have severe political ramifications?"

The teen's smile crumbled for the first time, and the camera showed a close-up of the overwhelmingly confident teen's cracked expression.

In his mind, he was just strong-arming the elites for their prejudice like a boss and thought he won. He didn't know anything about politics—he was a mobster's adoptive son!

"Did you just say the word political?" Grey asked in a panic, "Of course not! My greedy desires do not include a desire for financial suicide!

I only wanted Emma to spin the box despite being [a servant]. You know, look cool and show off my money and clout.

People's social prejudice killed my vibe, so I pulled out my credit chip. It was petty, not [political]!"

Eli's mouth dropped slightly before he started chuckling, something that shocked everyone, including Michael. That man didn't laugh!

"Let me get this straight." He chuckled in bewilderment, "You asked your servant to come to the stage to look cool.

When you couldn't look cool, you threw a fit and offered to pay 1.1 billion to follow through?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying." Greed replied, "I wouldn't threaten my business operations for her situation. If I had known this was such a big deal, I wouldn't have tried to look cool!"

"Does that mean you'll drop the issue and let us escort her away?" Eli asked amusedly.

Grey looked at the red-clad teen, trembling in fear. "I will if you insist, but I'd rather not.

I offered 6.6 billion in my home galaxy's currency to let her roll a box! Getting turned down feels offensive!"

The chairman's front expression crumbled, looking at the shocked elites in the audience, and he burst into laughter. He laughed in a way he hadn't for years, unable to control himself!

All the elites joined, not to make things awkward but found themselves getting carried away from the man's snorting.

"I can't tell whether to chastise you for your lethal arrogance or praise you for surviving this long with it." Eli snorted uncontrollably.

"I'd prefer the latter." Grey replied boldly, making the man laugh louder.

"A rational desire." Eli chuckled, "To address your point, letting her roll the box is a symbolic gesture we are willing to make exceptions for traitors.

That's what you're trying to purchase, and everyone saw your disdain for our social system for traitors. That's the problem."

"Problem? I promote your system!" Greed laugh-scoffed, "So long as there's money, there will be inherited inequality, so my thoughts of individual consequences are irrelevant.

I neither have the time nor the emotions to care for people I've never met.

However, I met Emma Kline and decided she was my woman. So looking cool and buying her out of servitude isn't a political issue; it's personal!"

A blizzard of shocked gasps and excited chatter ripped through the area, tearing through the silence. The chatrooms on earth were blowing up with endless conversations.

Eli gazed at the young woman, who clearly wanted to crawl into a hole and die, with an amused expression. Everyone could see that they had barely talked, so it was universally bewildering.

"It's hard to turn down a person when they declare such a thing." The chairman chuckled calmly, reigning himself in, "At the same time, your [fit] is causing problems.

Will you let Emma Kline roll the box [if] you sell your final item for 1.1 billion and buy her out of her chained status first?"

"That works for me." Grey replied, bowing slightly.

"Then I'll allow it." Eli said mysteriously, "However, I will be watching."

All the elites took sharp breaths, the players feeling the pressure of proximity. Anyone who was hoping to bid lost enthusiasm instantly.

"That also works for me." The teen nodded.

The chairman gave the teen a predatory gaze. "Do you think that you can sell your weapon after what I just said?"

"Of course." Greed replied with a confident smile, "Can I sell it personally?"

"You may." Eli replied, "I look forward to it."

Grey motioned to Lina to get the roller with the Gravity Plasma Railgun on it. Her heart thumped, afraid to move, but she quickly complied when she remembered the teen was getting tested!

"Bring it out!" Lina ordered, yelling at the petrified people backstage.

On her order, two trembling employees wheeled a twenty-foot cart with a massive weapon.

The sight made everyone fawn in awe. It was one thing to see the weapon in a video; however, seeing it live, taking up one-third of the stage in length, changed their perspective completely!

Its ten-foot barrel with a basketball-width diameter pointed to the sky, seemingly challenging the heavens.

"Proud Rykerians." Greed said, turning to everyone mysteriously, "I bring you the Gravity Plasma Railgun which I've nicknamed the Heavenly Destroyer."

He turned to the gun with a strange smile. "If you haven't seen this gun discharge, please, let me show you some clips."

Most of the elites hadn't seen the videos at that point, showing up for the hype alone. So when they saw the massive blast turn the city into a massive tunnel and then sink it, their jaws dropped.

Brigadier General Wainwright and Lieutenant General Ramp of Cragg gulped nervously.

"Let me tell you what you watched." Greed requested, "You watched an annihilation weapon permissible under the Ryker Pact of 8172 banning Nuclear and Warp weaponry fire.

Or, put simply, an overwhelming military advantage or conversely a devastating military disadvantage."

All the military members tried to calm their rapidly beating hearts, staring at the weapon.

"Since I don't want to be a war profiteer, I'm setting a bidding ceiling and floor of 1.1 billion." Grey explained, "The first person to bid for it, civilian or military, will gain the technology.

I will start in exactly three seconds. 3… 2… 1…."

Before the military members could process his words, he had already counted down. As a result, their primal instincts kicked in, with those who came prepared to buy it bidding first.

"1.1 billion!" Brigadier General Wainwright said with a violently pounding heart, the most intimate with the weapon.

"1.1 billion!" Lieutenant General Ramp instantly followed, ticked off that he had lost.

However, once they realized what they had done, they looked up at the screen with a choppy motion, expecting severe punishment but getting a strange expression instead.

"Wise choice." Eli laughed, "Anyone who puts professional fear before their country is a fool. You have my blessing. As for you, Greed…."

Grey looked up at the man with a strained expression. "Yes?"

"You're a remarkable young man." The chairman asserted, "However, you're also the only person capable and willing to start an intergalactic political crisis with a temper tantrum.

For that reason, I'm keeping my eye on you. I expect you to do great things and to give you opportunities. However, if you cause political trouble and expect swift retribution."

"I like opportunities." Greed dry-swallowed with a shameless smile.

"That's what I like to hear." The chairman scoffed, "Now I must go. If I watch that woman spin that box, I'm certain to lose my sanity."

Without further discussion, the chairman cut the call, leaving everyone stunned.

While most were afraid to breathe, Grey turned to Emma shamelessly. "Now then, let's roll that box, shall we?"
