Miriam: The Trinity's Fourth in Power

"Down!" Ms. Iwayoshi bellowed. "Up!"

The students groaned. We've been doing push-ups since the beginning of gym class. Komine and Inami bellowed as they competed to do more push-ups than the other. I looked at them and smiled. Zera sat against the wall, listening to music. I looked at Zera then rose an eyebrow.

"Alright, you all can take a break! Remember to hydrate! If I catch any of you slacking...You will be doing Mana Steps!" Ms. Iwayoshi bellowed.

"Yes ma'am!" The girls yelled.

I walked to Zera and sat beside her. She took out her earbud then looked at me. I touched her neck and she blushed and pushed me back. I chuckled and she looked at me smiling. "You're a slacker."

"And you're sweaty." Zera said then looked back at her phone.

I looked at her phone then rose an eyebrow. "What are you playing?"

"It's a game called Hopping Cricket. It's a fun game and so far I have the highest score on the leaderboard." She looked at me.

I gave her a skeptical look and she looked confused.

"What? It didn't say in the rules that I couldn't use my power. You should download it sometime." She smiled.

"I'll consider it." I chuckled and stood up. "Well I'll be doing some more exercise before Ms. Iwayoshi gets on my case."

"Alright." Zera nodded.

The school day finally ended and I walked outside the building to go home. I placed my hand on the back of my head then sighed. I sensed an attack then dodged a lightning bolt then looked at the ground and jumped, dodging a lightning strike coming from below.

"What the hell..? He dodged my attacks..? Doesn't he have no ability. Hmph let's see about this!" The woman dashed to me and palmed the air.

I dodged her attack then grabbed her arm then swung her around my body then slammed her to the ground and put her in an arm lock. "You underestimate me..."

'Are they sure he doesn't have an ability..? He...just avoided my attacks and put me on the ground..!' The woman thought to herself.

I let her go then dodged another one of her attacks. I slid back then she appeared in front of me and lightning was being emitted from her eyes. I blocked her attacks then kicked her away. I dashed to her and slid under her legs then rolled forward.

"Look! Miriam is fighting the new boy! Kick his ass!" A girl cheered.

"I don't know...he's...kinda giving her a hard time." Another girl said.

I looked at Miriam and noticed she had brown hair and black highlights. Her eyes were red and shined brightly. "Hmph. So you're the Fourth Trinity, Miriam Fulgar."

"You're impressive. Better than you were in the Orientation." Miriam said then smirked. "To stand against the Fourth in Power for this long, I'm surprised."

I dropped my bag then sighed as I knew there was no escaping this fight. Miriam dashed to me then punched. I caught her fist. "I guess...I'll give you a taste of my abilities. It would only be fair."

Miriam looked at me and looked surprised. My aura surged and everyone who was around looked surprised. My eyes shined and lightning surged around me.

"What are the chances he also has Lightning Manipulation like Miriam.." A girl said.

"I knew he had an ability.." Sol smirked and looked at Luna.

"Hm...why did he go out of his way to hide it..?" Luna asked.

I pushed Miriam back then appeared behind her and kicked her away. She grunted and rolled on the ground. She got up then noticed I was gone. She looked around then I appeared behind her again and grabbed her arm then flipped her over my shoulder and slammed her to the ground.

Miriam shot lightning at me. I held my hand out then her lightning traversed through my body and into the ground. "No way...he grounded my attack."

"My turn." I snapped my finger then a white thunderbolt struck Miriam.

She groaned and looked surprised. Her lightning aura vanished as she laid on the ground. "What...the hell..?"

Komine and Inami looked surprised as they watched me. A girl with green hair and gold eyes watched me from afar. She crossed her arms then stood up. She walked to the dorms.

"That guy beat Miriam...She's the fourth strongest in the academy...the Fourth Trinity. Has he always been this powerful? Why is he hiding his ability? Is there something he doesn't want us to know?" The girl sighed and was lost in thought.

Miriam stood up and looked at me. I looked at her then placed my hand in my pocket. "I refuse to believe that you are powerless after this. And I refuse this loss! Better be prepared...because next time we battle it will not end the same!"

I closed my eyes then walked past her. "I believe you. It won't end the same, who knows?"

....

I got home via train then sat on my couch. I let out a sigh and looked at my hand. The magic marking on my hand disappeared then I closed my eyes. "Why didn't I just let her beat me up..? What the actual fuck is wrong with me, exposing my power like that..? Tomorrow is gonna be really awkward.."

The next day I arrived at the academy and people looked at me. It was just as I predicted. I've now caught the attention of the people of the academy. I walked in the building walked up the stairs to go to the roof. I went through the doors and saw Zera sitting on the rooftop against the fence.

I went to sit beside her and sighed. She looked at me then I looked at her and smiled. "Another day.."

"Surprised you haven't ran away yet." Zera smiled and looked back at her phone. "Hey I got a question for you...There's a rumor going around the dorms..that you have an ability. Is it true?"

'It was only a matter of time..' I let out a sigh as I thought to myself.

"It's cool if you do. I won't tell anyone else what that ability is." Zera looked at me.

"Alright alright...I have Aura Manipulation. Well everyone has it. I mean to say I have the advanced version of it. The rare portion of Aura Manipulation." I said.

"I don't follow. What do you mean?" Zera asked.

"Okay...Let me explain. I can copy other people's abilities and awaken the destructive and pure versions of that ability. I can only have up to four abilities copied at a time. However, I'll lose those abilities after a while. It was an ability I inherited from my mom.." I said. "She taught me everything I needed to know after all."

Zera looked a bit surprised then shook her head and smiled. "So during the Orientation, you could've destroyed Ame if you wanted. Why are you going out of your way to hide that power?"

I looked at the sky and closed my eyes. "Because of my power I became the subject of many tests...all bad. Those tests have made me unstable. A weapon more than human. The same happened with my mom. Never happened with my sister or my dad. My mom and I are the only ones who suffered through those tests...hurt many people. I vowed to never use my power again after that day."

"I see...but you can't hide away from your power forever. It's not something you can just get rid of. It's a part of you. Instead of looking at it as all bad, how about looking at it as a learning lesson and learn to control your power. My power also doesn't come without its flaws, but you just gotta accept it and grow." Zera looked at me.

I looked at Zera and her words spoke to me. I looked at the ground. "Accept it and grow huh..? Is it really that easy?"

"Worked for me, but we are all different. One thing is for sure though, you can't run from it but only embrace it." Zera smiled.

I nodded then closed my eyes and sighed. "Thanks...I probably needed that more than I expected. Those wise words."

"It's whatever." Zera said in response. "Now let's enjoy our time out here before class starts."

"Yeah." I nodded and chuckled.
