The Accident

Ava's mind flew back to the day they got into the accident.

Flashback (On the day of the accident)

14th Feb 2015.

Ava and Melody were sitting in a taxi after the college entrance exam. Ava was not supposed to accompany her that day but Melody insisted for her to come, she said she wanted her to meet someone.

"Av's, I want to tell you something. I met someone and I think I am in love with him. Today he is coming to meet me, please come with me. He is very important to me and so are you. I want you to meet him." Melody looked at Ava expectantly as she blushed a little. Her bright eyes and beautiful smile make it hard for people to refuse her. She was so innocent so pure!

Ava looked at Melody confused, "Oh my god Mel, that's so great. But how come you didn't tell me this earlier? I would love to come with you and meet the man who stole my precious Melody's heart." Ava blinked and said excitedly. Melody and Ava never hid anything from each other, so knowing she had a boyfriend Ava was surprised and happy at the same time.

"I wanted to be sure before I tell you about this," Melody said feeling a little guilty.

Outside the weather was not good, a typhoon was about to hit so there were not many cars on the road. The sky looked dark and gloomy as if the angry clouds were sending some kind of warning toward them. Ava looked outside at the clouds she didn't know why she was feeling uncomfortable in her heart but she ignored that feeling and excitedly keep talking about their future to Melody.

"I am really happy for you Mel. Do you know what is my biggest dream?" Ava asked with a smile.

"Of course I know. You want to get admitted to Mozart conservatory with me and get married to Jacob after graduation." Melody said knowingly with an easy voice. She knew although Ava never admits it but she actually likes Jacob, and how could she not? Jacob was an excellent guy, good at study and sports, very attentive and caring toward Ava. Who doesn't want a partner like that?

Ava blushed at the mention of Jacob. It's true that she wanted to date Jacob and probably get married to him one day, but her most important dream was indeed to study with Melody at Mozart conservatory.

Ava and Melody were lost in their conversation, painting a beautiful future together when they heard a car honk followed by a deafening screeching sound of tier. The driver tried hard to turn the wheels but could not, the truck in front of them came and crushed the taxi hard and it rolled over on the street. Ava and Melody were sitting in the back passenger's seat, they were hit hard and thrown around inside the car because they didn't fasten their seat belts.

"Ava, don't be afraid, we will be ok." Melody grabbed Ava's hand tightly and tried to comfort her.

Ava could see melody's beautiful face covered in blood but her eyes were still bright full of hope. Ava was in pain, a lot of pain, she tried to hold on but then she lost consciousness. When she woke up, she was in the hospital, and Melody was gone.

"Mel, after breaking up with Jacob, I met a man, his name is Oliver. He is a very good man and I love him very much but I can't be with him. I have done something terrible and now looking at his sad face, I feel like my heart is dying. Everyone says that Oliver and I are not right for each other, that we are both people from a different world. I don't know what to do. I wish you were here to hug me and comfort me. I know you would make everything better." Ava sighed, her eyes looked dull and lost.

"Sometimes I want to disappear from here, go far away from all this, go to a place where no one knows me. But I can't do that my parents and Sarah are still here, how can I leave them? Mel, are you alone there? If only you were here. You were the only person who could understand me so well. I really miss you."

Ava and Melody's friendship was different from others, they didn't need words to express themselves. In fact, where most girls liked to talk all day, they were the type who could spend the whole day without saying a single word to each other but still would know each other by heart.

"I wish you all the happiness in heaven girl. I'm sorry for coming so late today." Ava touched the cluster of stars in front of the tombstone and said with red eyes.

Suddenly, in the quiet cemetery, Ava's weeping sounded very loud. It was the only place where Ava could cry and talk without holding back so she poured her heart out and cried freely.

"Mel, I love you and miss you so much. If you miss me, please come to see me in my dream."

Ava's mind kept flying back to the old times when she and Melody would stay all day together. Melody was always a quiet type, Ava would talk and she would listen quietly with a smile and sometimes give her advice when Ava was desperate or confused. Ava remembered whenever she would have any doubt about Jacob, Melody would say the right things to ease her mind. In fact, it was because of Melody, Jacob's and Ava's relation was very smooth since the beginning. Anytime there was a slight confusion in Ava's mind, Melody would be there to clear it out. Ava thought if Melody was here today maybe, her and Oliver's relationship would be smooth as well. Ava always had a tendency to overthink matters and Melody was just the opposite and that's why they were so perfect together, Melody and Ava would always fill up each other's lacking.

A cool wind blew past Ava making her hair covering her face, but she didn't care about anything, she just stayed sitting there with a dispirited expression. Ava didn't move from there until it was dark outside. She looked like a mess, her eyes were red and lifeless, her hair was messy and she was tired.

Ava stood up and looked at Melody's tombstone one last time then she left with a heavy heart.
