Some old memories

The next day, Beijing Tiantan Hospital.

Ava was sitting in her office lost in her thought. Last night, after Oliver found out about the contraceptive pills, although they made up quickly and he was being very understanding about the whole thing but Ava felt his attitude towards her has changed a little, which was making her feel very uncomfortable. She didn't know why but she felt like the whole thing created an invisible wall between them. Women's mind was very sensitive, they will always notice any subtle change in the relationship with their loved ones. She just hoped that things between them will go back to the way they were.

Mia walked into Ava's office with a cup of coffee in her hand and said with a smile, "Ava, I made a coffee for you."

"Thank you, Mia," Ava replied with a smile. Her eyes fell on Mia's neck which was empty so she was wondering why Mia was not wearing the necklace?

Mia saw that Ava was looking at her empty neck, she felt a bit uncomfortable. She took off the necklace because she was somehow feeling very guilty after accepting the money from Kiara.

"Where is your necklace, you don't like it?"

Mia felt very embarrassed at her question she quickly shook her head and said with a smile, " No, Ava I like it very much, but it's too expensive. I am afraid that I will lose it at work so I took it off."

"Silly girl, that necklace is not that expensive. You can wear it whenever you want." Ava didn't doubt Mia's words even for a second, she reached out and patted her on the shoulder to comfort her.

Mia's eyes fell on Ava's gauze-covered wrist and she said with sad eyes, "Ava. I was scared to death when you were sent to the hospital that day after the heatstroke."

"Actually, that day I went to school to meet Jacob. He was leaving the city and wanted to meet one last time. We walked the whole school remembering our old days." Ava paused, her face had a layer of sadness.

In high school, Ava was naïve and innocent. She would always tie her hair in a high ponytail and had a simple appearance. She had a beautiful and baby-like face and she never liked to do makeup or wear jewelry so her natural appearance captured many male student's hearts including Jacob.

Ava and Jacob were in the same class and he would always sit next to her. As Ava was very pretty in her class many students chased her but it was only Jacob who was able to get close to her. Jacob was a very good student and he would always help Ava to solve any critical problem she was having with her studies so naturally they grew closer and would spend a lot of time together. At that time all the students thought they were already together. In fact, even though they started to date after graduation but Ava already started to develop feelings for Jacob when she was in high school.

Ava's family conditions were above average but she liked to stay low-key. She would often spend her spare time in the piano studio. According to the school rule, only students with Piano foundations were allowed in the studio so other students could not enter there. However Jacob was different, he was the president of the student union so he could go in and out inside the studio any time he wanted. On her lunch break, she would always spend two hours practicing there and Jacob would accompany her saying he loved to hear her play.

Later, they both had excellent results and easily got into Oxford University. At that time all the students and teachers thought Ava and Jacob who were known as love birds in school would end up together and get married after graduation.

Mia saw Ava was lost in thoughts she shook her and asked gently "Ava, are you ok? What are you thinking?"

Ava pulled back her floating thoughts and said with a smile, "It's nothing, just some old memories."

"Ava, are you still in love with Jacob?" Mia asked seriously.

Ava was silent for a moment then she shook her head and smiled: "No, the day we broke up, it was over between us and we became strangers. That day he asked me if we could be friends again. I told him if we meet again accidentally then we would but we both know that might never happen. So I believe we are destined to be strangers."

"The young love always ends with regrets," Mia said quietly.

Listening to Ava, she suddenly remembered her crush who was her senior at school. Seeing him becoming a doctor Mia also felt motivated to become a nurse. However, they have always been living in two different worlds.

"Did he try to contact you after he left?" Mia asked.

"Yes, a few days ago, he sent me an email with a postcard and said that he was living in a small village, abroad, but he didn't say where. I guess that's how our fate decided to end our relationship." Ava said lightly. She only wishes that he could have a good life, he had already suffered enough.

Many people don't understand why Ava was so soft towards Jacob. She should hate him for what he did but she didn't and she also chose to forgive him. Whether she loved him or not she still couldn't deny all those years' feelings. Her feelings were always pure and clear towards him so even when he was too cruel to her she still couldn't punish him the same way. It's not that Ava was easy to trample, it's just as long as someone doesn't touch her bottom line she still could let it go. Although Jacob did many bad things to her but he didn't touch her bottom line and since he regretted his actions then why not give him a chance to change.
