Chapter 9: Mysterio's Choice
Meanwhile, as Tony's day starts so too does John's. As the bright morning sun enters John's room through the blinds it slowly wakes him up causing him to yawn and stretch, before getting out of bed.*Morning Navi* John thinks as he makes his way to the nearby wardrobe to get dressed for the day.
While he does a voice rings in his head in its usual robotic tone *Morning John* John after getting dressed and grabbing his bag starts to make sure he has everything he needs for the day and begins to head to the cafeteria.
After grabbing a continental breakfast, as well as some tea John sits down in an open booth and starts to eat while sorting out his thoughts and planning what to do with the strange situation he finds himself in.
He eventually gathers his thoughts on what he knows and what he doesn't. * Well first things first, I know that I am in a marvel universe the big question is which one as there are many and most of them are downright scary.*
He continues his thoughts as he munches on some bacon. * second I need not only a source of income but a way to protect me in case a golden snap sounds out. Though I do not know if that will even happen. * After finishing his food John starts heading to his engineering class early.
After getting there and finding an open workstation he starts to work on his personal project while he has time. John starts thinking to himself as he works to get about 75% done on his Illusion tech. * Navi please tell me, can I do whatever I want with the blueprints after I earn them? *
Navi replies in her usual monotone voice. * Yes John that is correct they are yours to do with as you wish. * John smiles at this as the bell rings and he puts away his project as class starts but notices something odd as he hasn't seen Tony at all yet.
*That reminds me I need to thank him for saving my life as much as I loathe to inflate his ego even more it is proper after all. * As the class ends John knows that he has some time before his next class and decides to try and finish his project prototype.
John succeeds in finishing his project a prototype of his illusion tech after a couple of hours of work. Just then Navi speaks up and a ding sounds in John's head. * Congratulations on completing your task rewards will be shown now.*
Then out of nowhere, three holographic masks float in front of John's face all three look like different designs on the same blank mask like one of those programmable full-face led masks but with no opening for the eyes or nose.
John is shocked and looks around at the other students still here working on their projects wondering if they see this too. * Don't worry John only you can see the system's holograms. * John then remembers that that's usually what happens with systems and then starts to be embarrassed over the rookie mistake
After John gets over it he looks at the holograms while thinking and reading what each does. * tell me Navi how come none of these masks have spaces for my eyes I won't be able to see? * Navi then replies * Simple once you wear the mask, John it will link with your ocular senses and act as your eyes allowing you to see it will also feel as if you are not wearing it so be advised. *
John nods surprised by the answer but enjoys the thought of being able to see in a wider field of view as it may help him with his plans before looking at each mask once again and looking over what they can do and what they look like.
The three choices had descriptions of what they did as well as how to use them. The first mask looked like a speaker and occasionally moved to look like it was playing loud music.
Minor Sound Manipulation: Target or targets are hit with a loud disorienting sound that can stun them. Cost: 5MP for each target
The second mask had eyes and a smile both black while the rest of the mask was an even darker black making it so you can barely see the eyes and smile. The eyes lighten every now and then making it look like eyes are staring from the dark.
Nightvision: grants the user the ability to see in the dark. Cost: 5MP for five and a half minutes
The last mask was similar to the second as it had eyes but a smirk instead of a smile and the mask starts off default white but fog then slowly obscures the eyes and smirk making them disappear.
Fog Generation: The target area is covered by a 20ft radius of fog for 20 minutes. Cost: 20MP can increase by 10MP at a time to increase the duration.
John looks over the choices before eventually picking the third mask after finding the other two choices lacking and as he does the hologram suddenly turns real before gently landing on John's desk in front of him.
