Chapter 3: Mask System

John starts to panic a bit before the doctor returns to the room to check on him. " Hey there Quentin how are you feeling now the painkillers should have kicked in by now feeling any throbbing headaches or pain of any kind?"

John smiles trying not to show his confusion before replying. " No doctor Chris I am not feeling any more headaches or pain just a bit surprised is all can I ask you something that may seem odd?"

Doctor Chris blinks before smiling. " Of course, what can I help you with?" While Doctor Chris listens he checks all the machines as well as the labs to make sure Quentin is still ok after the accident.

John exhales slightly before asking his question. " So do you also see floating words or am I just in shock from being shocked?" Floating in front of John were the words System install complete

Doctor Chris looks concerned before shaking his head and checking Beck for head injuries. "No, I do not see floating words so I think you may be right I'll run a few more tests to be sure before I allow you to head to your theater classes, and don't forget to let me know if you notice any more changes."

The Doctor looks Beck over for another 15-20 minutes just to be sure before allowing Beck to leave and heading off to check on other patients.

John allows the doctor to do his job while looking at the floating prompts in front of him. As he does he ends up hearing a voice in his head. *Hello, host and welcome to the Mask System.* The voice sounds robotic and emotionless.

John didn't want to look any crazier so he thought back to the voice in his head. * Hello system can you answer a few of my questions real quick? First, what are you and where did you come from? Second, what is your purpose and why choose me? And lastly, what can you do?*

John wasn't super worried as he has memories about this kinda thing but was still cautious. The voice then speaks again in its robotic tone * Host to answer your inquiries I am the Mask System, I have no knowledge of my origins, My purpose is to help you and I didn't choose you to be my host, you are just my host.*

* As for what I can do Host I can help you navigate the system which can show you personal info about yourself and hand out tasks to be completed for rewards*

Just then in the bottom center of John's field of view, two bars appear one green with the number 100/100 on it and another one blue with 0/0 on it which confuses John.

* Ok system, what is with the bars in the middle of my vision, and what do you mean by tasks, also is there any way to make them not so distracting or like a setting to hide them when not needed?*

The system goes quiet for a second and the bars become transparent and a little text box appears in the top right of John's vision that reads Tasks and under that, a small line of text shows up [ learn the basic functions of the system, reward: a new Task.]

The system then speaks up after making the task box disappear. * I will start by explaining the bars the green one is your HP or Health Points it shows your body's overall condition. The second bar represents your MP or Mask Points this is the energy used to activate the mask's abilities. Host if you would like I could take you through the tutorial.*
