Chapter 11: The bench

'They ..even walk through you' I said hopelessly. I tried to make out a sentence that could perhaps comfort him, but nothing could spring to my speechless mind.

'Yes, that's the worst' he sat down on a bench placed right in the middle of the crowded centre.

'It's one thing that people don't acknowledge you by never looking at you, you could get used to it but it's when someone walks straight through me... it's then that I realise what I am, simply a no one to anyone'

'Except me' I raised the left corner of my lips to form a slight smile.

'Except you' he echoed, turning his head down to look at the ground. I couldn't help but admire his perfectly angled profile. I too wouldn't believe someone of his beauty could ever exist if he wasn't to be sitting in the flesh next to me as he was.

'Why do I see you Edris, is there something wrong with me, I mean since only vampires can see you I assume it must mean that I'm a-'

He stopped me mid sentence to let out a deep laugh.

'What makes you think you could be a vampire, Arvela?' He questioned amusingly

'Wait don't tell me ..the smell of blood drives you insane when you're hungry to the point where you would agree to a world apocalypse happening, even if it meant having one drop'

I chuckled.

'No, but for some reason my dads family have this odd obsession with vampires, it's like they want to know everything there is to know... I guess I grew up around it for a whilst when I was little and at some point I really thought I was? Yeah it's stupid but I was five' I rolled my eyes

'I don't think it's stupid it's very.. human of you' he laughed.

'Well you're nothing like we say you are because if you were, I would have already been on my way to my own funeral' I joked.

I looked down at my watch and I realised it already was nearing quarter to six. I got up quick,

'I need to go my mum will be back soon, um.. do you have like.. you know.. a phone?' I got out my iPhone to show him what I meant.

'I still want to help you' I made a quick excuse.

He shaked his head no, got up from the bench within a lightning strike and stood next to me.

He then crouched slightly just so he could reach my ear and his warm breathe whispered gently into it

'I'll come visit you again.'

And he was gone, so quick that the flicker of turning on the light now seemed slow.
