Time magic

Mister Chrestos got out from Solomon's Seal using the Gate spell. He appeared next to me and said:

"I didn't even think you would be able to make your own spell, but here you made a great one, what's this spell?" "I call it Solomon's Seal, I freeze the space around someone sealing him in there. Though he could still get out using the gate spell, just as you did." "hmm, nice thinking, the spell is amazing, even if someone who happens to be a space mage gets trapped in there, it would definitely put them in a tough situation. The process behind it is similar to my spell but the thought behind it is quite different." He said that as he raised his palm in front of him, and a purple circle appeared floating in mid air.

"Try throwing a rock at it, using gate" I did as he instructed and faced the circle. I used Heaven's cannons at it and the rock flew at a great speed hitting the circle making a loud bang.

I immediately figured what's the function of the spell was; a shield.

I blamed myself for not thinking about such a spell, but well, you can't make everything happen.

"This is my shield spell. I call it: Kingdom's last guardian." Chrestos said as he raised his chest looking very proud of himself. I guess he really loved his job as the king's bodyguard. I couldn't comment on the name though, my spells sound really imposing too.

But I guess you have to make it sound really cool.

"The principle behind it is very similar to your Solomon's seal; it blocks anything from passing through it. The only exception is really powerful spells that would destroy it." I took everything he said now to heart, I was going to try and make the spell and add it to my arsenal, maybe try to add some functions and modifications to it.

"Now for today's lesson, I will show you a time related spell, the one I used against your father. It's the time acceleration spell." He stood straight and clapped his hands. He looked at me and opened his mouth:

"gekjfj….tpmg…zmjt" I couldn't understand anything he said, the words were flying out of his mouth at incredible speed that I couldn't perceive them.

He clapped his hands again and said:

"That was the time acceleration spell. You won't really accelerate time for everyone but just yourself. The way I did it earlier, I spoke for 5 seconds straight but to you it was just a second" I understood what he said, it was really amazing. If he could accelerate time for himself by a factor of 5, then he could make activities and things that would take him 5 days in just a day.

The advantages this spell provided are tremendous, but I figured such a spell came with many disadvantages.

I look at Chrestos and said:

"What are the drawbacks?" "Good you asked, speeding time for yourself means your body functions at a greater speed than before. Let me put it simply for you; if you accelerate time by 5 times that means it would age 5 times faster than normal, you have to consume 5 times more than usual, sleep 5 times a day etc…. The other drawback is that it consumes a huge amount of mana, so you probably can't maintain it for a long time. I am a Rank 6 on both mana pool and density, but the most I can keep it active is for 12 hours before I completely drain my mana." I pondered for a while, the spell was way too good and the consequences were also great.

"But, I devised a spell that would slightly diminish the drawbacks. It's the restoration spell; it would limit the aging downside of the spell, but not completely.

The principal behind it is reducing the age of the body by restoring it to its previous condition. It won't negate any workout you do, you still keep your vitality at its peak, but it takes away the stress that accumulated due to aging.

This spell is even more mana taxing and if I dry out my mana, I would be able to reduce my physical age by 3 years. It won't negate the hunger and sleep but it's effective to avoid the major drawback.

Many nobles and wealthy people pay very large prices to have a time mage apply this spell on them and reducing their age by even 10 years.

The downside of this spell is that a margin of time must be left between each time you are submitted to this spell, the spell can't be used for ever, the body would ultimately collapse on its own if your real age gets too old." I thought for some time and find that the spell was really useful to avoid the first one's drawbacks. Well, I won't really go and live the rest of my life in an accelerated state.

It may sound really tempting to get more powerful in short time, but I like taking it easy. I am satisfied by my current progress.

I first started with the time acceleration spell; I got a nice idea on how to picture it. I imagined two clocks, one was on top of me and the other was in front of me.

The clock on top of me was ticking, the second's hand was moving at a normal pace.

Tick 1 Tick 2 As it pointed at 2 seconds, the clock in front of moved its thin hand pointing at 1.

I decided to speed my time by a factor of 2. I closed my eyes and kept picturing the two clocks, and then I clapped my hand.

When I opened my eyes the scenery was the same. We were still in the dense forest but something felt weird.

I look above and saw a bird flying in the distance, it was flapping its wings but I could see that it was abnormal. Each flap was slow.

I turned to Chrestos and said:

"I did it" He looked at me puzzled. I forgot that my voice is also 2 times faster than usual.

He crossed his hands, and I understood what he meant. I canceled the spell then nodded. He said:

"Well, I didn't get what you said, but that means you made it. I can't be shocked anymore by how fast you are progressing. Now try the other spell" I closed my eyes again but this time I pictured a single clock, the one on top of me. But this time, the hands were moving counter clockwise. The seconds hand was moving backwards slowly and with each tick that it mad, I could sense some mana being drained. It was very small, but against the time acceleration spell, it was great. I guessed that for each minute I reduce the expenditure was comparable to a use of the gate spell once.

If I drain my entire mana pool, I think that I can reduce my age by a whole 7 years. But it was not tempting to me. It's not like I am not going to use the spells I learned today but I won't abuse them.

The acceleration spell solved a problem for me that have been bugging me since I learned the treadmill spell. The vision problem when I use Hermes's coat. If my eyes could perceive faster then there won't be any crashing into walls anymore.

And if I use mana circulation, that would resolve my physical defense problem. I was overjoyed.

I stop casting the spell, when I sensed that I restored my age by the same amount of excess time that I aged during the accelerated stated.

I looked at Chrestos and said:

"I did it master, it is indeed very mana consuming" Well mana was not a big problem for me.

"You already succeeded making the two spells in a single day. Well I'll let you get familiar with them for the time being. Next week would be our last training session. I taught you most of my spells, I thought it would take you at least 2 years at least to be able to perform them, but it took you just 5 weeks.

You're really a genius. Next time, I'll show you how to create your own storage accessories." He said that and he left.

I went back home and kept practicing what I learned today. And I did so for the next day too.

Tomorrow was going to be the day where my training regime would change. I didn't know what he was thinking, but knowing dad it would be hellish.

In these two days, I managed to integrate my time acceleration spell with my eyes. The rest of my body was not affected by the spell. And when I casted Hermes's coat I can match my vision and my speed to an extent.

The faster I become, the more I have to accelerate time around my eyes. But with the restoration spell all is good. And my mana pool was hardly affected by the consumption.

I had breakfast and had my morning routine, and after lunch, I met dad at the backyard. He looked at me and said:

"Today, you're having combat lessons"
