A Visit to the Highest Floor

She picked up the old picture and traced her fingers on the outline of the two faces there. It was a picture of her parents from more than two decades ago. They were in their twenties and looked young and youthful.

Her mother was a stunning beauty and her dad, a handsome gentleman. Speak about genes huh... In a few weeks marks the twentieth year her parents left her alone in this world.

She could hardly remember the events that took place that night but one thing she wouldn't forget was the last thing her mother said to her. "Rise up my child. Claim back the throne." She couldn't understand her then and neither could she now.

And the troubled expression they had on their faces was something engraved deep within her,as her parents were known for their extraordinary collectedness and the ability to think calmly in every situation.

Then picking up the second photo, she had an inexplicable warmth and tenderness in her eyes as she stared at the picture of her and Andrea in a beach several years ago.

They went there to celebrate the first cooking award Andrea won and in the picture, they both had heart warming smiles filled with love. Andrea is the only one Emma could count as a family right now. She had been with her through thick and thin and has always given her a shoulder to lean on.

Emma felt indebted to Andrea in every way and has never felt like she has done a lot for her. Andrea's birthday and her parents'memorial happens to be on the same day and Emma has always invested all of her in making Andrea feel special on that day. Even with the grief she had on that day, she never showed it out and made sure Andrea never worries about her.

This year, she had something big planned for Andrea. Andrea will be thirty this year so she wants to make it a memorable thirty years birthday for her. Her plans lean towards the evening due to her visit to the cemetery in the morning.

After about ten minutes of staring at the photos, Emma kept the box back in the safe and went to bed. Andrea spent the night with Jerry so the apartment was lonely for the rest of the night.

The next morning, Emma decided to dress in a low profile so she wore a black A- line gown with a silver belt. The gown was a little above her knee and was without sleeves. She combed down her hair and let it hang loose on top of her shoulder with her signature hair pin by the side. She only applied a little lipstick and let her natural beauty do the rest.

After having a light breakfast consisting of a bread sandwich with a hot beverage, she flagged down a taxi and went to work.

She got to work by 8:54AM, about six minutes early to catch the silhouette of her boss before his private elevator could close completely.

"I hope I don't get into trouble today." She prayed inwardly before making her way to the PR department.

It was lunch time and Emma just finished her work and was about to go out for lunch when a colleague of her's stopped her. "Miss Cynthia has asked to see you Emma." It was the same girl who Cynthia mistook for Emma on their first day and she was looking beautiful in her short red gown.

"Oh... I'll get going then." disappointed, Emma walked towards Cynthia's office with a belly full of hunger. She was looking forward to a sumptuous lunch as she didn't have much to eat this morning but now her lunch time will be encroached.

Emma walked into Cynthia's office after she heard come in and stood by the side until Cynthia hung up the phone. "How are you Emma?" Cynthia asked happily seeing this beautiful face again.

"I'm fine ma. You asked for me?" Emma asked politely with a smile. "Oh yeah... I got a call from the president's office this morning. The president's assistant,Zeus, needs you to come to the office for matters I wasn't informed on. I think you should head over as quickly as possible as this is the first time an assistant had been called up there." Cynthia said seriously as she tried her best not to scare Emma.

Most of the people privileged to go up to the president's office were a handful of department heads as well as some important shareholders. All other businesses get to the President through Zeus so it was kind of scary when one is called up there for reasons unknown to them.

"I should get going then." Emma said lightly before stepping out of the office. The private elevator was reserved only for the president so she had to take the general elevator from the seventh floor.

Getting to the president's office, Zeus was outside, obviously waiting for her with his usual stern expression.

After knocking on the door, Zeus led Emma into the office and closed the door behind her.
