Not an accident

It was almost a month since Liang's accident, but the police could not get any concrete evidence or even a link to any suspects. The company that owned the truck, helped the police with the investigations and provide the address of the driver in question.

When the police visited his house, they found out that he did not return since the day of the accident. As the case was high profile, the police did not hesitate to launch a massive manhunt. And soon they nabbed the culprit from city Z. He was hiding in a dingy little house.

Even the arrest of the driver did not lead to any conclusion. He said he never met the person who hired him. The mastermind just texted him the task and the place where he could collect the money, that was an abandoned factory. The phone which he was using for the dealing, was cleverly destroyed and sim was cut.

The police went as far as asking the mobile service provider to retrieve the message from their database with the help of the number. But yet again, the messages did not lead to the actual culprit. Even then, the police kept the driver in the lock up for further investigation.

The detective provided a comprehensive report of the investigation to Liang and assured him that they were seriously looking into the case and would crack it soon, before leaving.

Once he left, the happy atmosphere became a little gloomy. Mother Sheng and Meili had also joined in, when they came to know of the detective's arrival.

There was complete silence for some time in the lounge. It broke when Jinjing said, "well at least we know that it was not an accident, rather a well-planned attempt to…." She could not bring herself to say the remaining part. She did not want to jinx her currently smooth sailing life by uttering negative words. Liang was safe and healthy and that is all that mattered.

Liang understood what she was thinking, so he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to himself. This time, Jinjing did not mind his action, she needed the secure feeling that came with it.

Meili and Mother Sheng smiled looking at the couple and the mood of the lounge changed for the good, once again. The four of them were chatting about random stuff until the topic somehow drifted to Jiaying's hospital visit.

"WHAT!!!" Liang was shocked at the revelation. "she came to see me at the hospital??" he asked, confirming what he just heard. He kept mum for some time and then looked at Jinjing before glancing at Meili.

The wordless conversation taking place between the trio, did not fail to catch Mother Sheng's attention. "what are the three of you hiding from us? Come on spit it out." She warned them.

Exchanging looks with each other, they decided to let the cat out of the bag. Meili took the responsibility.

"ma! Remember I told pa and you to stay away from Jiaying or anyone from the Mu family???" Mother sheng nodded and Meili continued explaining.

"well, bro caught Jiaying cheating on him with Yang Hui and had warned her to stay away. He even has video evidence. That's why her visit after all this, still pretending to be brother's fiancée, was very disturbing."

"and suspicious as well" Liang added to Meili's sentence.

He swiftly whipped out his cellphone and called the detective.

"hello detective Lui, Sheng Liang here. I want you to discreetly investigate the Mu family and see if they have any involvement in my accident."

Liang disconnected the call but did not come out from his thoughts. The lounge once again turned gloomy.
