Clingy... but i like it
Saturday, dinner.
Around the dinner table sat five couples. Mr. Sheng helped Mrs. Sheng sit, while Mr. Lee did the same for his wife. Buzz's parents, Mrs. and Mr. Feng were also invited. Buzz and Meili sat next to each other. The only one to disturb the chair arrangement, scooted his chair close to Jinjing's. The resultant noise got everyone's attention and left Jinjing embarrassed. But the man in question, was completely unfazed. He sat next to his woman with sheer authority.
All those present, were already used to his clingy behavior and hence, paid no heed. Soon the food was served and everyone relished the delicacies. There was intermittent chatting between the elders, but the topic of engagement was never touched, which made Liang feel unsettled. Buzz and Meili were sometimes roped into the conversation when it concerned their marriage preparations. Jinjing, on the other hand, was mostly silent but answered when asked about her job.
'I think the elders have planned to trouble me…. no one is asking me anything.' Liang was troubled by his exclusion. Just then Mrs. Lee asked, "when do you plan to start work, Young master Sheng?"
Liang felt relieved. He quickly replied, "aunty please address me as Liang or at the most Sheng Liang. And I have already started working from home, but will join office once my leg is healed." His mood was lifted when his to be mother-in-law nodded with a smile.
Jinjing felt immense joy when Liang spoke to her mother so politely and humbly. She noticed that Liang's behavior had changed a lot over the years. The aloof, stoic Liang was now more social and approachable. She lovingly threw a fleeting glance at Liang. She thought, 'I am lucky to be loved by such an amazing man. He is a little clingy…. but I like it.'
The dinner continued at a relaxed pace and then the elders moved to the lawn for a cup of tea. The youngsters were spending time together in the recreational room, when they were called for by the elders. Making their way to the lawn, the four of them sat maintaining their pairing.
Looking proudly at her children, Mrs. Sheng started speaking, "I am very happy that Liang is recovering well. Meili and Buzz will soon get married and I hope they always love, trust and respect each other. I pray that they never encounter any difficulties in their marriage." Mother Sheng gave them her motherly blessing with a hint of mist in her eyes. While Buzz, lovingly intertwined his hand with Meili's and placed a peck on the back of her hand. Meili was a blushing mess.
Mother Sheng briefly shifted her focus on the other young couple, before addressing Mr. and Mrs. Lee. "I would like to take this opportunity to ask for Jinjing's hand in marriage for my son. I hope you approve and bless their union." She knew the answer, but she still waited for the reply out of respect for the Lee couple.
Soon enough, Mama Lee said, "it is our good fortune, that our daughter will marry into the Sheng family. We wish the couple stays happy together, forever." Her simple reply drew a loud cheer from the younger crowded and the loudest was obviously, Liang. The elders exchanged congratulatory messages.
Now since everything was decided, he did not hesitate to hold Jinjing's hand in front of everyone. Feeling shy, Jinjing tried to pry her hand out of his grip, but failed.
Shaking her head in amusement, Mother Sheng continued, "I was thinking of getting the two engaged soon. Unknowingly, I separated them five years back and now I would not like them to stay apart anymore." She still felt guilty somewhere deep within her heart. "What do you think Mr. and Mrs. Lee?"
