"Boo!" I screamed. Sonia almost jumped out of her skin as she held unto her chest.

I started laughing at her. When Sonia saw that it was me, she was a bit relieved that it's not some bad guy or something.

"Ava!" Sonia screamed angrily at Ava's childishness.

"What?" I replied still laughing a bit.

"Why would you scare me like that?" Sonia asked. I could clearly see the scare on her face.

"Sorry, I wanted to surprise you" I smiled at her childishly."You are such a scaredy cat"

"I'm not" She denied,when clearly she was.

Since they were young Sonia has been the scared one in terms of playing scary games and even watching scary movies.

"Anyways, let's go we are already late on our first day of school" Sonia said as they took long strides down to school.

It was by sheer luck the school gate wasn't locked yet. They were still two minutes early. Ava and Sonia stood at the front of the vast building with a large billboard on the top of the gate that wrote 'HILLSVIEW HIGH SCHOOL '.

They were so fortunate to get a scholarship into this school.

Ava thought within herself. 'I sill can't believe it, I've been wanting to get enrolled into this school for long. I heard that the teaching technique is good and they have qualified teachers but still, minority of the students fail all due to their laziness to study. Well, I'm not gonna let anyone nor anything distract me 'cuz I'm determined to graduate with flying colours, come what may'.

Then, they both entered through the large gate and are now in the school premises, they looked at their surroundings and we're awe-strucked. They saw so many divisions of classes from the 7th grade to 12th grade, so many tall buildings inside and if you walk in further, you will sight the cafeteria; that looks like a 5 star restaurant. The computer lab, the science lab and the Home economics lab that looks well-equiped and also the music room, Arts and crafts and the gym and so many students walking to and fro.

Someone could mistake the entire school for a fairytale castle on an island. Almost, Immediately they heard the bell ring, all the students gather at the front of the enormous hall for assembly, in order of their classes as their class teachers stood at the end of their lines.

A teacher came towards Ava and Sonia.

"Why are you still standing here?" the teacher roared "Didn't you hear the bell?"

"Oh! yes we're going" Sonia said. They both went to the assembly ground and didn't know which line to fall into, so, they counted the line until they reached 11th grader's line and went to line up with them.

The assembly commenced and they started the National anthem followed by the National pledge, then the school anthem and the greetings.

"Good morning principal,teachers and friends" All the students chorused.The principal came to the front of the students to address them.

"Good morning students, how was your holiday" the principal asked.

"It was fine sir!" the student chorused.

" Good, As you all know this is our resumption week and we are in the first term,so,you need to work harder. You need to be up and doing" the principal said,he continued "Those of you who were in the 9th grade are now in the senior class; 10th grade. You will have to leave your junior class behavior,you need to set example for the junior ones who are still coming..."

"And before I forget we have two new scholarship students here at our school" the principal said.

Every students started looking around to figure out who they are.

The principal further said " They are Sonia Rodrigo and Ava woods" The moment they both heard their names they went frozen.

"Sonia Rodrigo and Ava woods, please come out so that we can identify you" the principal added.

Ava and Sonia looked at each other and then walked up to the front of a thousand of students at the front of the hall and stood beside the principal.

"Please, introduce yourselves" the principal said and gave Sonia the microphone. Sonia took the mic and introduced herself.

"Hello everyone, I'm Sonia Rodrigo" she said. Then, handed the microphone to Ava, Ava took tht microphone and was hesitant at first.

Really, It takes courage to stand in front of thousands of people.
