Late on the first day of school

When she got home,she walked through the small sitting room door and scanned the room for her mother.

"Hmm,she must have gone to work" Ava thought while walking towards the kitchen to get a huge bowl of cereals to munch on.

She sat in her room eating the bowl of cereals she brought with her while going through her Facebook posts which reads:

'I'm thankful for getting a scholarship into the best school in the country!' with a smiling emoji at the end.

Ava dropped her phone, with nothing else to do,she picked up another novel from her shelf and started reading it.

Time flies by, it's now 7 in the evening. Ava's mum has just got home from her restaurant looking stressed out.

Ava walked to the sitting room when she heared the door opened due to the bell hanging at the top of the door,she knew it was her mum.

"Mum, what took you so long?" Ava asked while walking over to where her mum was and took the bag from her arm. "I've been waiting for you"

"Sorry, I have an important guest coming for a wedding anniversary at the restaurant tomorrow morning, So,I have to supervise the employees to decorate the restaurant "

Ava's mum owns a restaurant called 'Forks & Fingers'.

"Alright" Ava said. They walked into the sitting room and sat down on the couch.

Ava's mum rested a second before informing her daughter she wants to go and freshen up.she came back a few minutes after.

"I'm going to cook dinner for us" Ava's mum said, already heading towards the kitchen.

Ava stood up and blocked her way "No mum. I'll cook dinner tonight you just go and sit down on the couch and relax" She said. "You are already stressed out,you don't need to cook anything, just leave it to me, okay?

"Okay, alright. I'll leave it to you, I know you make sweet dishes" Ava's mum replied .

"Not sweet... delicious dishes, so, just go and rest,okay?"

"Okay" Ava's mum said and went towards the couch and rested her back on the pillow placed on the couch.

Ava went to the kitchen, wore an apron, took out all the ingredients she'll need to prepare the chicken noodle soup. It took her half an hour to cook the food. When she was done,she dishes the food and brought it to the dining room.

"Mum, the food is ready" Ava called from the dining room. Ava's mum was already dozing off when she heared Ava calling her.

"She went to the dining room and sat down on one of the chairs beside the dining table. Ava placed the food on the dining table and opened the cover over it, the aroma of the chicken noodle soup surveyed the room.

"Hmm, this looks good" Ava's mum complimented. She took a bite out of the food "And delicious" she added.

"I know, right?" Ava chuckled."that's because I learned from the best" Ava smiled, making reference to her mum.

Ava's mum looked at her and smiled as well. And they both ate to their hearts content. After dinner, Ava took the plates to the kitchen and washed them.

After, they went to their rooms.

"Good night dear, don't sleep too long and don't forget you have a big day tomorrow"

"Okay mum, good night" Ava was so tired, she went sluggishly to her room and dropped on the bed and then slept off.

On Monday morning, Ava woke up, stretched herself, she looked at the time as her eyes widened in surprise.

" Didn't the alarm go off?...Oh!, I forgot to set the alarm". Ava said as she flashbacks.

Jeez! It's 7:25am already.

She sprang out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and have her bath. She went back to her room to dress up, she wore a short-sleeves t-shirt and a sky-blue jean, Then, she packed her notes inside her bag and went to the sitting room.

"Good morning mum" she greeted her mum, "Good morning, you're ready" Ava's mum said, "Come have you're breakfast".

" I don't have time mum, I'm already late" Ava said.

"Okay, why don't you just have something" Ava's mum insisted. Then, I went to the kitchen, opened the fridge and took a condensed milk.

"Good bye mum" Ava said.

"Good bye darling" Ava's mum replied.

Ava's POV.

I went out of the house and walked a few metres then, I saw Sonia a distance away. I tip-toe to where Sonia is and decided to surprise her from behind.

"Boo!" I screamed.
