Rebooting Memories

Chloe went inside to check on Sushi and felt sad seeing her situation. He sat beside her and said, "How can you forget everything when he realized the entire truth? Please, Sushi, come back to us."

After some time, Sushi slowly regained consciousness. "Chloe..." she mumbled.

"Sushi, I am here," Chloe said, holding her for support.

"How is Mom? What happened?" Sushi asked.

Neither the family nor Huan could answer her question. Chloe slowly helped her up and said, "Aunt is okay. She is doing well. She is in Small Town. She was just angry with you and fell down. You had an accident while you were on your way. That is why you don't remember anything."

Sushi felt a little relieved hearing those words from Chloe. She asked, "Can I talk to her?" Chloe couldn't respond, but Huan took the initiative and said, "I was there, Sushi. Godmother is fine. She is still angry with you. It's better to take some time for both of you to calm down. I came to see you immediately after hearing about your accident."

Sushi just nodded and sat in silence. Her father came near her. "Sushi, dear, I am sorry. I should have accepted you when you came. None of this would have happened if I had treated you correctly. It's all my mistake. Can you forgive me?" Tears filled his eyes as he held her in his arms.

"Dad, no, it's not your fault. I should have known what is important to you. I came here for a man, ignoring my mother. It's not your fault. It was me who couldn't separate the people who loved me from those who didn't," she said angrily, thinking about June.

Huan and Chloe exchanged glances, unsure of what to say. Sushi's mother spoke up, "Sushi, I brought all your favorites. Please eat something. Let's focus on getting you better first," she said, opening the food and trying to feed her.

While her parents were taking care of her, Huan and Chloe stepped outside to talk.

"What should we do, Chloe? We can't keep the truth about Godmother hidden forever. If Sushi remembers or finds out somehow, she'll be even more upset," Huan said with a worried look.

"I'm wondering the same thing," Chloe replied.

"Where is June? I don't see him," Huan asked.

"He left. He doesn't want to burden her anymore. He said he will stay away from her," Chloe replied.

Huan just stood there silently, both of them feeling helpless in the situation.

"Have you heard from June?" Huan asked.

"No, I've tried contacting all my friends and sources, but we couldn't find him anywhere. I don't understand where he could have gone, leaving all of us," Nivi replied.

"Can I ask you a question?" Nivi asked Huan while they were having coffee.

"What is it?"

"You liked Sushi, but why did you still ask about June? Why didn't you take advantage of the situation?" Nivi inquired.

"It seems you have a very wrong impression of me. I'm not a jerk. It's true I loved her; all I wanted was for her to be happy. But June kept pushing her into misery, which is why I fought with him," Huan replied.

He continued thoughtfully, "I realized that day at the hospital that June loved her more than she loved him. But the fact that they lost their baby because of him and their fate made me pity him. That's why I want to help them."

"What is Sushi's situation now?" Nivi asked.

"It's been a month. She remains silent in the hospital, just staring out the window. We can't understand what's going on in her mind. She has almost fully recovered, and we will take her home tomorrow," Huan replied.

"Can we do something about this situation? We need to act; we can't leave them like this forever," Nivi said.

"That's true, but what can we do? We can't find June anywhere," Huan replied.

"That's also true. But maybe we can remind Sushi about her past. Perhaps she can find him," Nivi suggested.

"But isn't that too much for her when she's about to be discharged?" Huan asked, thinking it over.

"Correct, but what if it's too late and she has completely erased his memory? The doctor said it's a temporary condition. Now that she's recovered, we should do something to help her remember," Nivi insisted.

"But what can we do? Do you have any plan?" Huan asked. He listened intently as she explained her plan.

"It might work. Let me talk with Chloe too," Huan said.

That night in the hospital:

Sushi saw someone standing near the door and asked, "Who is there?"

But there was no response. She slowly got up and started walking towards the door. Just as she was about to open it, Chloe opened the door from the outside.

"Sushi, you're here. What happened?" Chloe asked, closing the door after stepping inside.

"I saw someone at the door but got no response," Sushi said.

"Someone was at the door? I didn't see anyone when I was coming in," Chloe replied and helped her back to the bed.

Once Sushi was settled in the bed, Chloe sat beside her and tried to start a conversation. "Sushi, how are you feeling now?"

"I'm okay, Chloe. But can you take me to Mom, or at least call her? I want to talk to her. Why is everyone doing this? I want to see her," Sushi replied.

Chloe, with a sad look, held Sushi's hand and said, "Sushi, before that, I need to tell you something. Don't be alarmed when you hear it."

"What is it?" Sushi asked curiously.

"Sushi, can you try to remember anything that happened before the accident?" Chloe asked.

"You keep asking me the same thing. I'm tired of trying. I can't remember anything," Sushi replied.

"Okay, calm down. I will take you to her tomorrow. Get some rest for now," Chloe said, tucking her in for sleep.

The Next Day

Huan and Chloe took Sushi to Small Town. Instead of taking her home, they brought her directly to her mother's memorial place.

"What are we doing here? Huan, take me home," Sushi demanded, turning towards Huan.

When Huan couldn't respond, Chloe held Sushi's hands. "Sushi, listen to me. What I am about to say might be quite shocking, but we didn't have another option at that time," Chloe hesitated before starting to tell the truth.

"Sushi, don't you remember anything here?" Chloe asked, helping her walk forward.

As Sushi looked around and found her mother's tomb, memories from the day of the funeral hit her hard. She quickly held her head, groaning, "Mom!!!"

"Chloe, what is this memory in my head? Why does it have Mom's name?" Sushi burst into tears, confused.

Chloe nodded and replied, "Sushi, we lost Aunt that day. It's been five years since it happened. You lost all your memories from that time," she revealed.

Those words hit Sushi hard as she remembered the day of her mother's death. She recalled coming back to the city perfectly fine, rushing to the hospital to see her mom. She waited outside her room for hours. Despite the doctors' efforts, they eventually lost her mother.

Realizing her mother's death, Sushi burst into tears and anguish. Huan and Chloe felt helpless but just held her, hugging her to give emotional strength.

Sushi fell unconscious from the shock.

"Sushi!! Sushi!!" Chloe cried, taking her into her arms.

"Huan, let's take her home. She passed out due to the shock," Chloe said. Huan picked her up, and they adjusted her in the car and took her to their old home.

Once they laid her down on the bed, Sushi remained unconscious. They adjusted the room temperature and gave her some medicine.

They came downstairs. "I think she remembered Godmother's death," Huan replied.

"Yes, Huan. If we try harder, she can remember June as well," Chloe said.

After a while, Sushi woke up and slowly came outside, holding her head. As she descended the stairs, sobbing over her mother's death, she found a picture of herself lying on the floor with some pills nearby.

Another flash came to her mind: she was about to fall down the stairs, remembering the scene, when June called out to her, "Sushi!!! Sushi!!" She became confused.

Noticing her behavior, Huan quickly took her hands and led her to the couch to sit down. He offered her a glass of water and asked, "Sushi, are you feeling okay?"

"Huan, what is this? What is June doing here? Why was I lying there? Can't you see me on the floor?" she asked nervously.

Huan was shocked to hear this from Sushi. He looked at Chloe.

Chloe stepped forward and held Sushi's face. "Sushi, calm down. There is no one on the floor. You are getting your memories back. It's a good thing. What else do you remember?" Chloe asked excitedly.

"Chloe, I saw June picking me up while I was lying on the floor. He was shouting my name. How did he know my name? Why isn't he calling me Chloe? Does he know about us? Did I die?" Sushi asked, bombarding them with questions.

Chloe immediately hugged her and said, "No, don't say anything. Everything is okay. You are here. Nothing happened to you." She comforted her, holding her in her arms.
