Chapter 38 THE PAST

MICHELLE's P O V

After the two elderly men left, neither of them asked for their bill; nevertheless, when I went to clean their table, I noticed a hundred-dollar bill tucked beneath one of the cups.

I took it with a grin on my face and stuffed it into the pocket on the front of the apron I was wearing. I had no idea they were such a generous tipper. At a cost of five dollars for only two cups of coffee to be purchased, the tip they gave me was too much.

My co-workers Fred and Hailey needed to take an unexpected leave of absence in the afternoon, so Mrs. Wales filled in for me at the cash register while I took care of the rest of the responsibilities of my job. I made an effort to provide the customer with service as quickly as possible so that they would quit griping about the slow service.
